Editorial Reviews

First time on CD for this 1982 album from the actress, singer and performer. Lisa Hartman has had a loyal following over the years, even though she only made four albums in the decade from the mid-1970s to the mid-1980s. Letterock was originally issued on the RCA label, and features one bonus track. Lisa Hartman recorded four solo albums between 1976 and 1987 - two for Kirshner Records, Letterock through RCA Records and one for Atlantic Records.

1. Hidin' From Love
2. Why Baby
3. Jonny's Always On My Mind
4. If Love Must Go
5. Hole In My Heart
6. Two To Do
7. Games
8. Miss You (Like I Do)
9. Don't Let Me Go
10. New Romance (It's a Mystery)
11. Where the Boys Are [From Where the Boys Are] [*]

Yep, the album that was released just as Lisa Hartman was making a name for herself on Knot's Landing has finally made it to CD, and the sound quality is fantastic. Pretty sure they used the original masters here and no vinyl transfers. A mix of early 80s pop rock with hints of new wave, as well as some early signs of Lisa's country music influence, this is an awesome platform for the voice so many fell in love with on Knot's Landing. Sadly, her rendition of Journey's "Open Arms" didn't make this album, but what did make the album is the beautiful power ballad "If Love Must Go", which was featured several times throughout the year Lisa played Ciji on Knot's Landing, and which was also the song that was playing in the season finale as we discover the awful truth as to what has become of Ciji...

Other notables are the 80s rockin' "Hidin' from Love" and "Johnny's Always on my Mind," Lisa's answer to the Josie Cotton new wave classic "Johnny are you Queer." There are even covers: a Rick Springfield track (Hole in my Heart); "Games", which was also recorded by the recently deceased Phoebe Snow in the early 80s; the song "New Romance" by the early 80s power pop/punk band Spider (which was written by Spider member and prolific 80s songwriter Holly Knight). And of course there's the cover of Where the Boys Are. Glad to see this soundtrack song included since it has never been on CD as far as I know and was quite elusive until now.

The album is really a great stepping stone for Lisa from her 70s recordings to her 1988 power rock/arena rock album Til My Heart Stops, a tragically ignored album that could have given the 80s hits by Heart some serious competition on the charts. That much sought after album is also available from the Wounded Bird label.

I had long since given up on this hidden gem ever appearing on CD. Originally released on vinyl at a time when female rockers were in the forefront namely Pat Benetar, Joan Jett and Heart andwhen Hartman had joined the cast of TV's Knot's Landing comes this solid effort. Make no mistake that this is pop rock but a great example. The whole album is wonderful but the standouts include Two To Do, Hole in My Heart and my favorite track New Romance. Add the gorgeous ballad If Love Must Go done with such emotion you will wonder why Lisa wasn't a major music superstar.

If you only buy one of Lisa's 3 new to CD releases this is the one to get. Also added is the bonus track Where the Boys Are from the film of the same name. A good cover of the original 60's hit. Let's hope Lisa returns to making music soon.

Lisa Hartman fans rejoice - your prayers have been answered! The three releases; "Lisa Hartman", "Hold On" and "Letterock" sound better than ever on CD. The Sound Quality is Superurb, the Cover Art is Stunning, and the Bonus Tracks are a Rare Treasure! I personally never thought this day would come, but the Wait is Over! Currently available now from the record company - soon to be released in April 2011 on Amazon. Bravo to Wounded Bird Records for these remastered quality recording! You won't be disappointed!

A great overlooked album from a great overlooked singer. Almost every track is a winner. I have all of Lisa's albums and this is the best of the bunch.

I had this selection as an LP back in the day. Then we had a fire and I lost all of my Audio and Video collection. Since it was considered a collection, it was not covered by insurance. I have been looking for LETTEROCK for quite sometime now, I am glad I found it here on Amazon. The shipping was fast, the quality is surperb and the ease of purchase is great, not to mention the selection. This is by far one CD/Album worth having. Every song is great and it truly takes you back to the days of KNOTS LANDING. Thank Amazon
