Very uplifting and comforting,
This review is from: Letters from the Afterlife: A Guide to the Other Side (Paperback)
I needed this book and it greatly comforted and uplifted me. Not cheezy like I thought it might be, what with a title like that and all.I'd lost my grandmother very sudden and unexpectedly, then 13 days later, my father (who we knew was dying) then several years later..also very sudden, my sister-in-law. These three people I was the closest to and they all left. Picking up this book made a huge difference for me to be able to truly let them go, feel that they are all ok and answered some questions I had about what the afterlife might be like. Also an excellent book for the living who just want to read a book on how to focus more on THIS life, lots of great metaphysical information.

A Must for Metaphysics Fans,

This review is from: Letters from the Afterlife: A Guide to the Other Side (Paperback)
This is a reissue of a book written and published nearly 100 years ago. The style reflects the period. What I enjoyed about this book the most was the way that the letters enticed the reader to consider the nature of reality, the openness one can achieve, and the sense of responsibility one has for oneself and others in any given incarnation.

Year 1915 for "Letters from a Living Dead Man",
By
This review is from: Letters from the Afterlife: A Guide to the Other Side (Paperback)
25 years ago while living in Denver I found the original 1915 book in a musty old Boulder, Co. used book store and included this text with my other purchases. I have never been compelled to seek out books about the after-life but I have always been interested in theological bound spirituality having been brought up (loosely) within the confines of religious rules and parameter's. Purchasing this book was an after-thought. Over the years I strayed from stricter theology and delved into Judaic and Christian Mysticism which broadened my perspective immensely and allowed me to internalize, to personalize my own spirituality. As with most others around me, I've experienced heartache in the death of beloveds (some of them more beloved once gone) but I never obsessed about life after death. Five years ago, while vacationing in an old Colonial Inn in Westchester, NH I had several very, very real encounters with ghosts (it gave me the willies) and indeed since then I have experienced a few more encounters involving departed family members (giving other family members the willies from the information I conveyed). In no way am I special in this regard but my elderly father says I've always been `sensitive' although he won't delve into specifics, him being a `we live, we die' kind of man. As with the study of mysticism these encounters also broadened my perceptions. Recently, while browsing though a box of old books in our attic, I came across my 1915 book by Elsa Barker and decided to give it a try, again (though I have no memory of reading it the first time). It's true on so many levels that wisdom comes with age (if one is open to the experience and not overly distracted by body aches or disease) thus my reception to specific thoughts and story, written down by the author as `conveyed' to her by Mr. X, were more receptive to the messages he was trying to convey. To sum up the total reading experience, I got the `willies' again but these inborn feelings were joyful, not fearful in origin. And over the years I've learned that in me, the source of that involuntary spontaneous reaction of deep physical joy is spiritual. That knowledge has also expanded my appreciation for what I know, what I don't know, my love of life and our potential beyond. Trying to convey my thoughts and reaction to this book is difficult because reaction is so subjective, so personal in nature. Your reaction may be exactly the same as mine or it may not. All I can tell you is that at the heart of the messages, as written down by the author, resides a deep feeling of authenticity which conveys credibility to readers who are willing and receptive to the experience. If you decide to not purchase this updated paperback version of the 1915 original I hope your explorations for understanding continue elsewhere and that somewhere, in all the messages and stories you do read you reach an authentic, personal understanding that gives you joy and reinforces your hope of the same for all our futures.

This book answered so many questions for me that I keep it with me wherever I travel. If I start to doubt that I will actually live on forever I just read a few pages and rest at ease. It will clear up so many of your "yea, but what about....?"s. I enjoyed the simple format and lack of editorializing. The books gets right to the meat, telling you who is writing for: who is speaking, and then jumping directly into the departed's "daily life" and divine lessons.I used to worry over world religions constantly; if one is correct doesn't that mean all the others are wrong? If so, how could so many people be wrong? Billions of people with no clue? As I said It weighed heavy on me almost constantly. But no more. The answer is in this book and it is so simple. Still, it lifted the weight of the world from my shoulders. Not to spoil it for anyone, but, maybe everyone is right.....Read it. DJS

This book told many things decribed in Buddhism,

This review is from: Letters from the Afterlife: A Guide to the Other Side (Paperback)
I came from China, and I am interested in religions and read many books about Buddhism, Christian and Chinese Taoism. I first found this book in St. Louis library, after reading it, I found it was very interesting and decided to purchase one. Now I have read this book three times. Each reading I found something new. This book described many things that were described in Buddhism, you can match many things together. Don't you think it is interesting that a "dead living" western person told the same story that was written in Buddhism 2500 years ago? To me, the spiritual world is real and every soul will go there, no matter you believe it or not. By reading this book, you know the death is temporarily and your soul will live forever. We come to earth to learn, when it is done we go back, I wish everybody to be a happy soul no matter what the situation.

A Gift for Believers,

This book was lent to me about six months ago and, after reading it, I was grateful to the person who introduced me to it. It is a simple but revelatory read of what life after death might be like. I found myself easily believing the author's narrative. The fact that this book was written in 1912, before the hype of pseudo seers like John Edward, brought a greater validity to it. I have since purchased several copies of the book and gave them as gifts to those I felt would benefit from reading it. For those who believe or for those who are even curious about what might lie ahead, "Letters From The Afterlife" is a wonderful reading experience.

This review is from: Letters from the Afterlife: A Guide to the Other Side (Paperback)
This is one of the books in the "Letters from a Living Dead Man" series. It gives very interesting material from a man who passed out of his body around the time of World War I. He dictated the book to one of his friends still in a body. The speaker from within shares interesting experience from his life in the inner worlds. I highly recommend this entire series.
