5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful little Gem, January 16, 2010
This review is from: Letters to Darcy (Hardcover)
This is a heart wrenching story about a pregnant mother who found out that her unborn child had Trisomy 18 and was told to abort the baby by her doctors. She chose not to and the book that follows are her diary entries written to her unborn child. This is a wonderful book about determination, spirit, hope, despair, depression, beauty, grace, and love. God gives us our challenges to overcome them and become better people and this is a book about how one woman did just that. The loss of a child is sometimes unbearable. You just have to remember that God is always with you every step of the way and he is there to help you through all trials and tribulations. I received this book free from FIRST Wild Card Tours and Special thanks to Maggie Rowe of Tyndale House Publishers, Inc. for sending me a review copy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Heart-breaking look at the life and death of a child, January 15, 2010
This review is from: Letters to Darcy (Hardcover)
Letters to Darcy by Tracy Ramos is a heart-breaking yet hopeful look at the life and death of a child. Tracy and Jason Ramos had made the decision to stop having children after their sixth, so when she unexpectedly became pregnant, the couple felt a mix of joy and worry. That worry became fear when in the fourth month of pregnancy the baby girl, Darcy, was diagnosed with trisomy 18, a genetic disease that made her "incompatible with life." Tracy fought the doctors who wanted her to end the pregnancy and began writing a blog in the form of letters to the precious little girl inside of her. She poured out her heart for the several months of pregnancy and the fifteen days little Darcy survived after her birth. During the course of their battles, the Ramos' faced despair and hope and saw incredible beauty and grace as friends and strangers poured out support in amazing ways. Tracy is brutally honest in her writing, making the story gut-wrenching. It's her faith that carries her through, but occasionally she faced doubt and deep depression, which allows readers to empathize in a way that wouldn't work if Tracy glossed over the rough spots or ignored the grief. Darcy's story brought several people to God, stopped others from aborting their trisomy 18 babies, and became a rallying cry for pro-lifers. Tracy's writing isn't polished or perfect, but it is the unvarnished truth about how God takes care of us and works His good through every circumstance for those who believe in Him.

4.0 out of 5 stars Letters to Darcy, December 24, 2009
This review is from: Letters to Darcy (Hardcover)
Tracy and Jason Ramos, faced news no one ever wants to hear. "Your baby is not compatible with life, it would be best to terminate the pregnancy" What horrible words to hear. This book is the story of the journey of carrying a baby with Trisomy 18 to full term and the fifteen days of little Darcy Anne Ramos's life.

Originally posted on a blog, Tracy shares her heart and sorrows, joys and hopes about her pregnancy. The journey she walked, the good and the bad. She is very very open about her distress, and she is also open about problems she and her husband faced during this difficult time. She shares her feelings about how others treated them, family and strangers.

A story of love, this journey will touch your heart. You will enjoy hearing about those days that little Darcy lived, all the things she was able to do on the Darcy list. A small book, with a big message, Letters to Darcy will touch you in a way you could not imagine. 150 page US $9.99 4 stars.

This amazing book written by Tracy Ramos will leave you embracing the gifts that God has given you. Tracy's book is compiled of heartfelt letters written to her unborn child. A child who was diagnosed with Trisomy 18, a life threatening genetic condition. Tracy describes the pains of discovering this most heartbreaking news, and the joys of enjoying every single day of her pregnancy. Tracy and her family were blessed with 15 beautiful days with their Darcy, before returning their Angel home to Heaven. They share with you every miracle of those 15 days.

This book will touch your inner self with it's faith filled lessons and powerful meaning. It helps us all become real and learn the lessons of life and to never take things forgranted. I thank Tracy and her family for sharing their story with me. I will give you one small piece of advice, have your tissues ready, because it will make you cry, but it will also make you smile at their strength and commitment to their lovely daughter Darcy!! I know to well the pain of losing a child recently to Trisomy 18, and Tracy was able to open a world to me that I never knew existed. A must read for anyone, my two daughters are also reading it and loving this book!!

Sheila

5.0 out of 5 stars Extremely Touching, April 10, 2010

This review is from: Letters to Darcy (Hardcover)
Originally a series of blog posts, Tracy Ramos' book is a journal of notes she wrote online to her baby, Darcy, who had a rare prenatal disease. Letters to Darcycontains the full transcript of these posts in chronological order, and that is all it contains. It is very much as if you are reading some one's diary, and your heart goes the full range of emotions, from joy to extreme sorrow.

It is rare that I read a book in one sitting, but I did with this one. I couldn't stop as I read the heart-wrentching words of Tracy, as she so desired to have Darcy, but knew that, upon her birth, she would not live more than a few days, at most. He open, honest entries are so human, because they cover the range of confusion one feels in a moment like this.

As I read, I kept thinking the book would end with Darcy's death (or maybe her funeral), but there were some entries following that. These were some of the most helpful for me to read, because they reminded me that, when the funeral is over, the emotion is not.

If you need a brief book that will remind you of what it means to trust in God-even with some questions-through a very difficult time, you need to pick up a copy of this book, which contains less than 200 pages.

5.0 out of 5 stars LOVE IN ACTION, February 16, 2010
This review is from: Letters to Darcy (Hardcover)
This is a very intimate account of one extraordinary family, a loving couple and a brave mom, Tracy, who writes to her unborn child growing in her body. Reading Tracy's letters to Darcy confirmed to me that God knows exactly what each one of us were equipped to do--even though we may not feel ready for the task at hand. He knew the parents that would embrace Darcy for her short time here on earth.

Tracy's courage and love for her unborn child is amazing to read. The family planned everything out in advance and prayed daily that they would get to hold their seventh child, even if it was for a few hours.

I have a special needs son and didn't know he had issues until he was born. After reading Tracy and Jason's story and all that they went through knowing Darcy's issues so far in advance, I'm convinced God knows what is right for each family.

"Letters to Darcy" is one family's journey from pregnancy to birth and beyond. It's a story of how God provided for their every need and crisis. Jason and Tracy watched how God became real and how, through their faithfulness to not end the life of Darcy, He would stay with her to full term! They were very thankful and honored that God chose them to be parents of this very special little one named Darcy. This book will pull on your heart strings, but at the same time give you hope. You will rejoice with this special family and life of Darcy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Get Out Your Tissues, January 20, 2010
This review is from: Letters to Darcy (Hardcover)
This story just about broke my heart. On one hand, it was such a beautiful story of a new life being created, but then, their world comes crashing down because of how everything will eventually turn out. Tracy's story is such a testimony to letting God take full control of her life and her circumstances, even though she struggles with it every single day of her pregnancy. Definitely have a full box of tissue when you read Darcy's short life story. It will bring tears of sadness and joy, but it will also fill you with hope and a renewed faith in God.
