Grade 2-5-Formatted as letters from a child to a friend back home, these travelogues read as if they've been adapted from a guidebook and focus mostly on famous tourist sights and physical descriptions of the places visited rather than on the people or cultures. The focus in Brazil is more contemporary, and there are a number of pages devoted to the flora and fauna of the rain forest. Egypt offers the most historical information since so many of the sites visited are ruins from ancient times. Israel offers the most information about religion. In each book, one or two full-color snapshots accompany each page of letters. While the color photographs enhance the books, they are unspectacular. The "Country Fact Files" series (RSVP) and the "Enchantment of the World" series (Children's) offer significantly more coverage for this approximate age group. These titles are of little value to report writers; they are, however, pleasant enough for browsing.

The books are perfect for beginning readers and give clear information in a travel journal format. Maps, photos and a scrapbook effect convey convey up-to-date information. Included is a short glossary, a good index and information about additional books and websites."
