is it possible for little edie to be uninteresting?,
By Philter (New York) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Letters of Little Edie Beale: Grey Gardens and Beyond (Paperback)
No, it's not possible for Little Edie to be uninteresting, but it is possible for someone to publish a bunch of pretty boring letters from her to make a buck. The book is short (thankfully?), and you will read letters from Edie talking about the weather, Florida, and her problems w/ the phone. For good measure every fourth or fifth letter has some statement about politics or celebrities, but they really aren't groundbreaking or fun, just observations. Bottom line: had I been able to peruse through this at a book store, I would not have purchased it.

Walter's consumate attention to his subject is unique and sensitive. He reveals her in a way where other's see themselves and adeptly allows one the intimacy artistically shared.

The Real Little Edie,
This review is from: Letters of Little Edie Beale: Grey Gardens and Beyond (Paperback)
This wonderful book shows the real Little Edie- not the Little Edie who was ON for the cameras or under the watchful and critical of Mother Darling. These letters are priceless and thankfully Mr. Newkirk saved them and now has shared them with everyone. Also it's wonderful to see all of the art that Little Edie has inspired. I loved memoraBEALEia, the story of how Mr. Newkirk met and became friends with Little Edie. Letters of Little Edie gives you the verbatim chronicles of what Edie wrote, and it is absolutely terrific. Thanks once again Mr. Newkirk for sharing the REAL Edie with us.

FASCINATING,
This review is from: Letters of Little Edie Beale: Grey Gardens and Beyond (Paperback)
I only recently discovered the Little Edie story. Walter"s books provide incredible insight into her personality. I think I have a better understanding of the movie and the documentary now.

Thank you again, Walter.,
This review is from: Letters of Little Edie Beale: Grey Gardens and Beyond (Paperback)
Yet another fantastic tribute to the Edies. I purchased four books for myself and for gifts. I gave them as follow up gifts to the first book. Everyone loved them. To see the insight and REAL story behind these ladies is amazing. Walter is very fortunate to have know Edie personally and we are fortunate he choose to share his unique experiences with us. The recent HBO movie makes mention of Walter in the DVD commentary. Check it out. What an exciting experience once again. Anyone owning this book will really enjoy it, especially those die-hard Edie fans.

Move over, Harold and Maude!,
By K. Governale "GG Fan" (Conshohocken, PA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Letters of Little Edie Beale: Grey Gardens and Beyond (Paperback)
This book is an endearing love story of Little Edie and her "Rutgers Boy." The story of 2 very different people who both practiced the art of listening is funny, sweet, and ultimately shows what true frienship is. From the day they met until Edie's death, the letters cover tons of subjects, from "Cousin Jackie" to Elian Gonzales, President Bush, Cher, and the weather - and always ended with genuine love and affection. It is a must if you are a Grey Gardens fan, or someone who wants to know more about Little Edie after the release of the recent HBO movie. And the artwork is a fine addition to the book. I highly recommend you read this - you won't be disappointed.
