Great ABC book,
This review is from: The Letters Are Lost! (Paperback)
great ABC book...great pictures. For an ABC book, there's actually a little story/plot. The end of the book lends itself to an activity for kids to create their own book and think about where the letters could end up. you can buy an inexpensive plastic photo album at the dollar store or arts & crafts store and take pictures of where you think the different letters ended up to create your own "letters are lost" book.

This was on my daughters summer reading list for preschool. Its a nice book that has them think and learn all about the alphabet.

I was happy with the condition of the book. I put it with the new blocks. I am looking forward to playing and teaching the ABC's.

A very creative concept used for this alphabet book. Short simple text is appealing to preschool aged children, and the illustrations are interesting enough to keep their attention through the whole story.

Where Are All the Letters?,

This review is from: The Letters Are Lost! (Paperback)
What if all the letter blocks were missing from you little block cart? Where would you look to find them? This short little book tells the story of how all the blocks disappeared, one by one, and where they were found.
I found the author to be quite creative in where she found the blocks. "B" tumbled into the Bath. "K" hitched a ride in a Kangaroo pouch. "P" dove into the Popcorn. "U" turned herself Upside down. "W" fell into the Washing machine. At the end of the story the blocks are together again, but soon they will begin to disappear again. The author asks if you can guess where they might go, which provides the opportunity to discuss with your kids other possibilities and what letters these words begin with.

This is a wonderful book. I have two toddler daughters, and this book has been instrumental in their development and learning of the abc's. It is always the first book that they ask for. I would recommended it to every parent that is trying to educate and entertain their children.

I was really disappointed in this book. It's biggest problem is shared by many of the alphabet books - it makes bad choices in examples to represent the sound of the various letters creating more confusion than help in learning to write and read. (For example, "xylophone" is used to represent the letter "x". However the "x" in that word actually sounds like a "z". For a young child learning to read, it's more important to provide them with a more common and true sound for the letter "x" such as at the end of "fox") Unfortunately, most writers and editors are not aware of the best practices for young children to first learn to write and read and what is useful to promote learning is very different from a young child's perspective than from an adult's who can already read and write well. In addition to this common failing with most ABC books, this book is bland and even the bad phonemic representations are not interesting with equally uninteresting pictures.
