collection of S&M experiences,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Q Letters: True Stories of Sadomasochism (Hardcover)
This book is not a "How-to", but one of self-discovery, a learning process for the author, Sir John. A collection of memories and experiences he wishes to share with readers. His intent is not to shock, anger or disgust, but only to open the reader's mind to a different and sometimes misunderstood sexual activity that many individuals find pleasure in.Yes, as stated in the preface by the author, there are instances of outright sadism; of people abused against and beyond their will, and of women being "slaves" because of extreme low self-esteem or some emotional disorder. But the author does not take pleasure in dominating women who are emotionally crippled, instead he seeks out strong women who are proud of their submission, and fully consent to be dominated for the sexual pleasure of not only themselves, but for Sir John. I found this book, with its collection of sadomasochistic experiences, quite interesting and stimulating.

I don't know what kind of book this is trying to be. As a How To Do SM book (as the cover blurb promises) it is a truly spectatular failure. As a "my story" book I can't imagine what he was thinking of when he told the world that he did these things to women. Are we supposed to admire him for doing things like hanging a woman off the ground by her hair?I've met some "dominant" men who say that they admire this book and so far they've all been creeps. It seems like the kind of book that certain men who hate women want to be true, but I think that that is wishful thinking. If you want an actually clueful source of information about male dominant female submissive BDSM, try "Screw the Roses: Send Me The Thorns." If you want to learn something about Female Dominant BDSM try "The Sexually Dominant Woman". If you want a good overview try "The Loving Dominant" or "Sensous Magic" or "SM 101".

This was a very exciting book for the imagination. I could not put the book down until I had completed it. Sir. John was well loved and respected by all of his Sumissive slaves, although issues of safety was not mentioned.I did feel that some of this book, probably was fantasy. Some scenes described in this book, I found hard to imagine any human being , being able to withstand. All in all, I found this book very entertaining, Sensual, sexually arrousing and most of all very intense. I would reccommend it for anyone who has a wild imagination and a lust for the S/M world Not for the weak at heart.

When I went quietly searching for a book on this topic, this was the only one available. After months of wandering alone inside my dark places, trying to distinguish by blind touch the form and feel of these new discoveries and questions inside of me - this book flipped the switch in me, and suddenly, there was light. Some of this book is difficult to read, but the Author very seductively and subtley weaves the chords of the psychological, spiritual and emotional evolutions that permeate this journey. This unfolds both from the perspective of the Master's journey to live inside the truth of who and what He is, and the variety of motivating sets of urgent love and other aching longings that drives the submissive to offer her gifts. If one can get beyond being distracted or frightened by the details of the physical explorations and hear the voices resonating within these tales, one will hear the hearts that long and need to know this kind of love -- and do. This book has changed this reader forever: and she does not know whether to thank the Author or curse the day she learned to read. If you are searching and wondering about your sexual DNA -- read this story: and not only the words on the page. From the persepctive of a novice who is concerned about safety, this book is not a "how to." Those questions will be answered elsewhere. Rather it is a delicious wine-tasting of BSDM/ so let its tastes and textures float in and entice your mouth and be careful about what you swallow.

This author's approach to SM is spectacular in it's cluelessness, hamhandedness, rigidity and misogny. How in the world can you write an entire book on SM and not mention a safe word even once? My advice for femsubs is very simple. The more a potential maledom partner tells you that he admires this book, the faster you should run away from him. There are a whole bunch of knowledgeable, ethical, clueful writers on SM out there including Pat Califa, Dossie Easton, John Warren, Catherine Lizst, Guy Baldwin, Joseph Bean, Lady Green, Philip Miller and Molly Devon, Jay Wiseman, Christina Abernathy and Race Bannon. While I have my favorites among them all are much better than the self-proclaimed "Sir" John.

Too good to be true!,

I agree with another review that said "The Q LEtters is the best book about S/M since the "Story of O". Even better because it's true!!! It is not just that it's so informative about BDSM it's incredibly sexy and exciting! I have read a number of "fantasy books" about BDSM, and this one tells it like it is. Really is!! Sure, parts of the book are Scary, but after reading some of the letters in the book that Sir John got from his "SLAVES", it's obvious that they were sometimes "pushes" a little, but they made it clear that was Exactly what they wanted! wow..> He made them SO happy. I can only hope to have such a Master! Read this book if you have ever wondered about S/M. Very Satisfying..

Not recommended for anyone desiring to learn more about S/M,

This review is from: The Q Letters: True Stories of Sadomasochism (Hardcover)
The Q letters is quite possibly the worst written and most unrealistic presentation of S/M in a non-fiction form I have ever encountered. From the first lovingly written vignette describing his first rape to the seemingly endless parade of emotionally unstable self destructive women that grovel at his feet, the Q letters reads more like a disturbed adolescents wet dreams than a serious presentation of the S/M lifestyle. Despite seemingly accidental intermittent accuracy regarding scene practices (sandwiched between raging misogyny and the obligatory orgasm count after every one sided encounter) the Q letters is far more damaging to the understanding of this form of sexuality than it is educational, despite its common use in academic treatments . And perhaps its worse offense, it is a boring read, no mean feat regarding the subject matter.

This review is from: The Q Letters: True Stories of Sadomasochism (Hardcover)
...It is a detailed, exciting, fascinating, and sexy "history" of the adventures of the most expert and total Master ....Even better, you'll read letters and diaries written by many of his slaves, and learn about their adventues, too, and how they felt about being Sir John's slave. If youu're interested at all in BDSM, this is a MUST read!

Extreme Reading,
By Joe D. (Indianapolis, Indiana) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Q Letters: True Stories of Sadomasochism (Hardcover)
I COULD NOT PUT IT DOWN. The content was intense, erotic and emotionally compelling. It is not intended to be a "how-to" book, nor should it be viewed as such, there are other books to that end. It is in fact, a powerful biography of one Masters experiences in the Lifestyle. Reality, fantasy, or literary license, regardless of the origin, this book explores the darkest corners of the writer's sexuality and imagination, exposing the reader to mental images that are advanced by any standard. BDSM is considered advanced foreplay, and John Q, has certainly taken it to its deepest levels. It is extreme reading. Does it depict forced cruelty towards women, No. WHY, because as you read the book, you see that at no time did he ever perform any SM act that was beyond the scope of the female submissives desires, which although not mentioned specifically, does deal with the safety issues. It was his knowledge and control of the scenes and understanding of their limits that provided the safety, and in some cases, protected these women from themselves. Evidenced by the letters from the lovers he has had, they all enjoyed themselves and loved him very much. One final thought; the scenes depicted in this book are quite advanced, and should not be attempted by the novice or even the intermediate level Dom. The lifestyle is many things to many people and advocates safety above all. What did I get from the book, a greater understanding of the lengths and scope of creativity that make the sexual experience between two consenting adults invigorating and exciting.

An amazing book, with a Dom "too good" to be real...to be honest, it's as if a woman wrote this book because the Dom is just as most submissive women would want him to be. If this John Q is real, I'd love to meet him...he's what I've always been looking and waiting for. In any case, a great read, thanks to the author whatever his/her sex.
