5.0 out of 5 stars Courtesy of Teens Read Too, October 5, 2006
This review is from: Letters to a Young Pug (Wilson the Pug) (Hardcover)
What do you get when you take a Pug named Wilson who is trained in the art of Tao, is a famous canine philosopher, and who must advise his successor, Homer, in the ways of Taoism? You get Wilson the Pug, soon to be Master of the Taoist Pug lineage, who must impart his wisdom upon young Homer. And how better to do this than through letters to the budding protege, accompanied by photos to document the ways of Tao--and the ways of a Pug.

LETTERS TO A YOUNG PUG is the third book in the Wilson the Pug series, following The Tao of Pug and Homer for the Holidays: The Further Adventures of Wilson the Pug. Along with talented animal photographer Nancy Levine, Wilson attempts to help his soon-to-be Tao successor learn everything he needs to know through letters and accompanying photographs.

What a wonderful book! Beautiful photographs and laugh-out-loud letters that give new meaning to the phrase "it's a dog's life," LETTERS TO A YOUNG PUG will appeal to dog lovers everywhere. Whether you're five or one-hundred and five, you won't go wrong with this gorgeous book. I actually read it to my children, ages five and nine, and both loved it.
Although the five-year-old was more interested in the pictures (from cute to hilarious to everything in between), my son thought the letters were interesting, as well. In his words, the writer has a "great imagination." I couldn't agree more!

Be sure to pick up a copy of this book for all the dog lovers on your Holiday shopping list, for your children, or just for yourself. The discipline of Tao comes alive, as does the world of Wilson and Homer. An absolutely beautiful, entertaining book!

This review is from: Letters to a Young Pug (Wilson the Pug) (Hardcover)
Letters to a Young Pug picks up the story of Wilson and Homer (from Homer for the Holidays). Wilson's Tao master is retiring, and before Wilson can take on the job he has to train his successor, Homer. The letters he writes to impart his knowledge of the Tao and Homer's humerous responses are wonderfully entertaining. If you have a pug, you will definitely see something of your pug in this book.

If you have any interest in the ways of the Tao-te Ching, the ancient Chinese book of wisdom, Letters to a Young Pug, along with the other two in this series of pug books by Nancy Levine, is a delightful way to expand your knowledge, as well as enjoying the full-sized pictures of pugs. I actually downloaded the Tao-te Ching on my Kindle. The whole process of reading the Nancy Levine's books, enjoying the pictures, and learning about the Chinese book of wisdom has been a delightful experience.

Anyone who owns a pug, including myself, knows that they are "always" interested in filling their stomachs. "Pugs work for food!" Pugs are funny-the book is funny. I think dog lovers would enjoy this book or anyone interested in these alien looking dogs would.

Puggers are the Creator's gift to mankind. I know that the Dog Whisperer sez that a dog is a dog; however, I disagree. A dog is a dog, but a pug is a pug.

This book is adorable. When it arrived I sat down with my 8 year old daughter and read it. She'd laugh at the pictures and letters from the young pug. Many wonderful messages and terrific pictures. I think her favorites were the curler in his tail and him cooling off in the fridge. She got many ideas for creative pictures for our own pug!

5.0 out of 5 stars Almost more funny than the 1st Wilson book!, July 19, 2007

After falling in love with Wilson the Pug from the "Tao of Pug" book, I had to get this one. I was NOT disappointed. Very funny exchange between the older and younger Pug, Homer. Photos are just as creative and funny as in the "Tao" book. This is another can't-miss great gift idea and something every dog (and especially Pug) lover will want for their collection!
