5.0 out of 5 stars Terrific read! Ms. Davis knows how to tell it like it was!
I couldn't put down this fascinating book. Perhaps it's because I felt that I was getting to know the people I saw on stage performing in that incredible, groundbreaking, entertaining show. The real story is just as entertaining, and Ms. Davis has taken us backstage to peak at just how amazing those times were !

3.0 out of 5 stars Fun book, but be careful...
This is a fun book, but I discovered in research for my own book ("Let the Sun Shine In: The Genius of Hair") that many of her stories aren't entirely true. I've talked to original cast members, one of the authors, and the original producer, and they tell me this book has a fair amount of fiction in it. STILL... it is a good read and I think it does provide a good general...

5.0 out of 5 stars Gimme a head with HAIR!, March 20, 1998

Although out of print, if you're interested at all in the show "Hair" or just the 1960's and the counterculture movement, get your hands on this book! Davis chronicles not only the decline of the joyous Broadway musical, but also the end of the "love and peace" era. Also gives a fascinating look at the unorthodox creation of one of the most unique experiences in theatre history. A great read!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good but somewhat depressing, November 7, 2009
This review is from: Letting down my hair;: Two years with the love rock tribe--from dawning to downing of Aquarius, (Hardcover)
A VERY open book about the original "Hair" told by one of the cast members. At first it's very interesting learning how the cast got together and interacted with each other and staged the show. However it pretty soon turns into a lot of complaining, backstabbing and general unpleasantiness on how the show went on and completely lost the message of what it was trying to say. Indeed, I sometimes wondered HOW the show even survived with all the disasters that seemed to happen nonstop. Still it is well-written but somewhat depressing to find out how the original tribal love musical dissolved into pettiness and cruelness.
