Great rangefinder! I purchased it from Amazon last week and took it to the course today. The GX-II was easy to set up and learn how to use. On the first hole I was using it instead of looking around for ranges on sprinkler heads. My speed of play was much better and so was my score. I shot 2 stokes better today and I attribute it directly to better club selection. The true golf range feature helped me determine exactly what club I needed to use. Another point to make is that a buddy golfing with me had one of the high end Bushnell rangefinders and a half dozen times we checked ranges together and they matched to the yard each time. Even with ranges over 225 yards. Great product!

GX-II - BEST RANGEFINDER FOR GOLF,
By CB "Briz" (Seattle, Wa) - See all my reviews

After comparing the Leopuld GX-II to the Bushnell V2 TOUR and the 1600 Pro I found the GX-II was the best for me.The GX-II picks up lower reflective targets than the Bushnell and has better ergonomics. After playing 90 holes of golf last week I'm convinced that I made the correct choice. My friend who had a Bushnell V2 Tour that was stolen replaced it with the GX-II after using mine.

Golf laser range finder,

Quality laser range finders are expensive - this is no exception. Some range finders claim to be able to lock on to pin flags which do not have the laser reflectors built into them. I know I struggle getting reliable ranges with this unit because I simply cannot hold it steady enough to get a good reading. Also, if the background to the screen is quite dark, ie lots of trees or shrubs just behind the green, the numbers displayed on the LCD overlay are nearly impossible to read as it requires a background that is quite bright, ie sky or water. I really have not benefited from all of the features of this unit (air temperature and slope compensation, suggested club choice) because I find it so tricky to get a lock on the flag, hence I cannot recommend this range finder at this time. I will battle on as I like the idea, but I suspect that I may have been happier with a GPS unit, even if I would then have to program the golf course into it before leaving home. For those interested in purchasing some sort of range finder, you should borrow one from someone who uses it regularly and get to know the tricks before you purchase it. August update: A poor workman blames his tools. If you use this properly, it is really very good at locking on to the pin. I was holding down the main button, which has a fairly strong spring behind it, causing my hand to shake. Hit the button once to switch the unit on, take aim at the green, press and release the button again and try to hit the flag stick with the targeting cross-hairs. The range finder very quickly gets the range to the pin - every time. Now aim at a lighter background if necessary to read the distance, recommended club and so on. I have upped the rating to excellent.

This rangefinder works wonderfully! The literature that come with the GX-II is understandable but leaves a lot to be desired. That being said, the literature issue is certainly overcome by intuition and a little bit of effort. The results I've obtained are verifiable and I have learned to trust the yardage indications as well as the elevation calculations implicitly. I have compared the GX-II to other popular models in use among my friends at the driving range and they are all impressed as well.

I have been totally impressed with this product. Lightweight, very accurate, I've learned now to trust it totally. Great addition to my golf game and I believe has improved my game since I'm better prepared with distances now than before. All my companions that I'm playing with now ask me for the distance. It's quick and easy to operate.

You wouldn't think you would use a range finder on a course you play all the time but I do. It's especially good to have and use within 140 yards. This is the best when playing on a course you haven't played before. Saves time and stokes. Great tool.

This is a fine piece of equipment. After some initial setup it is a breeze to use. Very rugged and works every time.

I owned 2 Bushnell rangefinders, 1 Skycaddie SG3, and 1 Golf Guru. I was looking for a compact rangefinder capable of picking flag distances from 200 yards and less (without reflectors). My Bushnell Pro Sport was only reliable from 150 yards or less. The Leupold GX-2 seem to fit the bill. Compact and able to read flags from outside of 200 yards. I didn't like the bulk of the Bushnell 1600. Initial tests on objects around the neighborhood were very successful. However, my efforts on the golf course were an absolute disaster. The GX-2 would lock on everything but the flag. I can't even get a decent flag reading from inside 100 yards. I had to resort back to looking for yardage markers. Now I'm thinking I've should have bought the Bushnell 1600. This item will be appearing on eBay very soon.
