4.0 out of 5 stars Surprised, April 15, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Leupold Zero Point Magnetic Illuminated Boresighter (Misc.)
When I got this I realized it's not a true Bore sight. You have to fire the weapon down range to use it. It is very well made and the magnet is very strong and it wont slip or fall off, even if the weapon is coated with Duracoat or any other anti rust material. Very neat item and works great. Just dont expect to stick it to the gun in the basement and be ready to dial in. You have to shoot the gun to use it!

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent product for the intended application, July 5, 2011
This review is from: Leupold Zero Point Magnetic Illuminated Boresighter (Misc.)
If the stated use of a boresighter is to get your first "zeroing" shot on the paper. Then this product fulfills its intended use. I take issue with the previous review in that this boresight can, in fact, be utilized away from the range, to set up the scope alignment and get your first shot on paper. No boresighter will "zero" a rifle for you. That takes at least one shot from the distance you wish to "zero" to, and Leopold has implemented a unique method to assure that the scope axis is parallel to the bore axis when the boresighting is complete, relying on the perpendicular machining of the barrel end to the bore, to accomplish the task.

I have only encoutered one instance where I could not read the graticle on the boresighter through the scope well enough to insure "first shot, on the paper" accuracy and that was with a 6-24x50 NcStar scope. Cant tell you what was wrong, just didn't work for me. Every instance of use with 3-9x40 and smaller scopes worked flawlessly.
