  • On courses that utilize prism technology ranging a distant pin is even easier thanks to Prism Lock
  • Hold down the top button to scan the area around the pin, your GX will beep and the display will freeze the moment it identifies a prism-topped flag stick.
  • Whatever the course, you can be sure the results you receive from the GX are the most precise available from any golf rangefinder on the market.
  • Fog Mode. Rain or shine, many golfers hit the links regardless of conditions - thats why we designed Fog Mode.
  • Most rangefinders give measurements from the first target returned, which in some cases is the fog between you and the pin.

Product Description

Pinhunter and Prism Lock... Try ranging a pin or fluttering flag from over 300 yards away Its not a problem for a GX golf rangefinder from Leupold. Every GX golf rangefinder has been precisely calibrated to fire a laser exactly at the target in the crosshairs. The proprietary beam geometry improves laser returns from the pin and the advanced GX software accurately separates those returns from objects in the background. On courses that utilize prism technology ranging a distant pin is even easier thanks to Prism Lock. Hold down the top button to scan the area around the pin, your GX will beep and the display will freeze the moment it identifies a prism-topped flag stick. I recently purchased the GX-1 model. After using it for 1 round, I returned it and bought the GX-3i. I wasn't impressed with the speed nor accuracy of the readings on the GX-1.

This unit (GX-3i) is GREAT. Bright red "target" in the viewfinder. Quick to register the distance and most important -- A C C U R A T E --

I've used the scan mode for "several" readings for the same shot e.g. to the bunker, water, mound etc. And of course I've used the pin for the others. This unit finds the flag and gives a reading very quickly. I've found my shots are now much better because I know the EXACT distance to the flag. Having used a GPS in the past, which gives front, middle, and back readings, I can strongly recommend the purchase of this particular rangefinder.

To date, I haven't used the prism seeker mode since my local course doesn't use that type flag-stick. I will be testing that function fairly soon as I will visit a course that has the prisms on their flags.

Gonna sound fairly Cliche but this is the holy grail.

I typically am a 1 or 5 star reviewer. There is the in between but no point letting others know how "content" you are with something. Anyways,

Pros:
Compact
Solid
Trusted brand - military and law enforcement trust Leupold
FAST - really fast

Cons:
CR2 Lithium battery - plan stocking a backup before needing one.

Keeping it short. It does exactly what is says it does. It's really fast, once to power on and another to clock a distance. scan mode works well and it beeps to confirm lock-in...optional beep btw.
average sized hands and it fits perfectly and the top (range-finding) button is located conveniently on top. No complaints other than the funky battery format, but there is a BatteriesPlus down the street and they are $5-7 on amazon. No biggie.

There is a quirk to this, not because of the product but because we are humans. Most people hold rangefinders with their right hand to the right eye. You should hold the rangefinder further away from your face (middle finger to operation top button) and rest your right hand on your nose and use your left eye (or vice versa). It is much more stable.

Although relatively expensive, if you are serious about golf, just buy it, it will stay in your bag longer than your equipment (if you are anything like me) and I can't imagine rangefinders being much faster than this. It is almost instantaneous. The bells and whistles will have better features over time (GX-4i and so on) but they are illegal for play...Trust me, they are illegal for tournament and handicap posting.

Hope this helps

For reference - I research every mid to large purchase extensively before I pull the trigger. I am a low single digit handicap who plays on average 3 times per week. I have been golfing for over a decade and before purchasing this rangefinder I used a Bushnell for the last 3-4 years.

When determining my new rangefinder I could not decide between the Leupold GX-3i and the Leupold GX-4i. I finally settled on the 3i because I do play in USGA tournaments and wanted one rangefinder for everything. Although the 4i allows the users to change the faceplate the USGA has deemed it illegal for tournament play. I do not agree with this because the slope faceplate it bright yellow, but oh well I guess they were busy with anchored putters. I do not have firsthand experience with the 4i but I have heard on a few forums that the slope feature with the 4i gives you a club selection as opposed to an actual yardage.

I had extremely high expectations for this rangefinder and somehow Leupold managed to exceed every one of them.

Compared to the Leupold GX-3i the Bushnell rangefinder I had was much slower at giving me readings. The GX-3i is literally instant and works great even when my hand shake sometimes. When the rangefinder locks in on the pin you will see a box around the flag. Sometimes the rangefinder does not do display the box but I could care less since it still gives you the exact, correct yardage instantly. So far I have used this rangefinder at least 30 times and have yet to change batteries. The Bushnell I used ate batteries and I would have to change them multiple times per month. I hated that because sometimes I would forget to carry extra ones and it would die in mid round. The batteries these rangefinders use are also pretty expensive.

This rangefinder deserves more than 5 stars. It is fast, accurate to .5 yards, and has a bright LED display. This is way better than the Bushnell Tour V2. It is much faster, and the red readout really is a deal maker.

I was at a golf store and at first I wanted to go with the cheaper GX-1i. I thought to myself this is good enough. As I was checking out, I quickly asked the cashier if I could try the GX-3i real quick just to see the difference. And MAN it was HUGE difference! The clarity of the scope, the solid build feel, and the bright red LED display of cross hair and yardage. It was like night and day. I immediately said "I'll take this one instead."
Any serious golfer should have a range finder. That being said, there's none better than this thing. I bought it for my dad for father's day and after playing with it for a while I went ahead and bought myself one!

If you want an accurate range finder that is great quality, this is the one. Do yourself a favor and just buy it!
