5.0 out of 5 stars Southern Crawl, April 5, 2009

RECORD SHOP GIRL (Northern Mpls Suburb) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Levee Low Moan (Audio CD)
Just as the pace in the south is slower than that in the north, so it is with the languishing tracks on this recording. Marsalis takes his time, creating a mood evocative of the still hours of the night.

If you are not a fan of Wynton's frenetic jazz, but want a recording from this master's diverse catalog, this is where to start.

Although similar in mood to the jazzier "Thick in the South V1", the low moan on the recording is blues--from his soul and out through his horn.
