Product Description

Do you love a good prank? Does your sense of humor border on sadistic? Then you'll love Level E, a hilariously twisted new series from the creator of Yu Yu Hakusho and Hunter X Hunter that's unlike anything you ve ever seen!

This extraterrestrial adventure follows the alien genius, Prince Baka (masterfully portrayed by anime legend Vic Mignogna) as he turns life on Earth into his own personal laugh track. The Prince has the biggest brain in the galaxy, and he's also a sadistic prankster who loves to make humans squirm. Anime fans will fall hard for this nostalgic, ''undeniably clever'' series that spoofs the television shows, video games, and superheroes they loved as kids. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll remember that thing you did that was super mean - but also super hilarious. (Don't worry, you won't get grounded.) So yeah, Level E. The alien invasion has begun. Prepare to die - laughing.

Based on a manga by Yoshihiro Togashi, the creator of the popular Hunter X Hunter and Yu Yu Hakusho, Level E (2011) offers a twist on the alien refugee genre. Things are looking up for Yukitaka Tsutsui: he's left Tokyo to star on Kisaragi High's baseball team (which has a good shot at the Koshien Tournament), and pretty Miho lives next door to his apartment. When a spaceship crashes nearby, Yukitaka discovers not a subservient kawaii (ultra-cute) girl in his apartment, but a nutty man with long blond hair. Prince Baka of the planet Dogra delights in tormenting other people, including Yukitaka, his long-suffering bodyguards, and a group of schoolchildren he kidnaps to enact an inane spoof of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. Level E misfires in several ways: stories start and stop arbitrarily; characters disappear for several episodes, only to reappear inexplicably. The tone shifts erratically, not only between stories, but within them. However, the biggest problem is Baka himself: his name means "fool" in Japanese, and it's an apt one. He's a singularly unlikable character who abuses and taunts everyone around him. At the beginning of each episode, the narrator portentously announces that countless aliens live in disguise on Earth. If that's true, all of them are probably more appealing than Prince Baka. (Rated TV 14: violence, violence against women, grotesque imagery, brief nudity, risqué humor, tobacco use) --Charles Solomon

5.0 out of 5 stars Hysterical December 29, 2012
Format:Blu-ray
Level E is a smart, fun, twisted anime. I thoroughly enjoyed watching it, my only regret is that it isn't longer! I have watched it in both the Japanese and the English, and I have to say Vic's Baka is brilliant. SO MANY VOICES.

5.0 out of 5 stars Everything Vic promised and more! December 21, 2012

If you've been to any of his con appearances lately, chances are you've heard about Level E, his newest voice acting role. I attended AWA 2012 and as soon as I had internet access I preordered this series. It is absolutely HILARIOUS! Prince Baka is all over the place doing crazy things and sometimes even having crazy mood swings. Even though it's a very short series (only 13 episodes), I would definitely reccommend it to everyone.

4.0 out of 5 stars A decent anime... June 4, 2014
Format:Blu-ray|Verified Purchase
and the humor is good, but suffers, like a number of other anime titles, due to the 13 episode format. If it had the full 24-26 episode format in which to really develop the characters and allow the writers to have fun within the arc, the show would outrageously funny. And with more character developing (mainly Prince Baka) the ending, decent as it is, would be that more satisfactory.
Over all, I'm glad to have it in my collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Crazy series, but in a good way... March 18, 2013
Format:Blu-ray|Verified Purchase
The storyline really was consistant, didn't seem to be at times, but it was. The visual styles were all over the place (kind of like the main character). I loved it! Especially the twists and turns at the end. It's now in my rotation of series to rewatch.

4.0 out of 5 stars An Amnesiac Alien Prince? October 1, 2012
Format:Blu-ray
Tsutsui Yukitaka is a high school freshman living on his own. Or at least he thought he would be on his own. When he arrived at his new apartment, he finds it occupied - by a young man claiming to have amnesia... and to be an alien. Should Yukitaka believe him - on either count?

Level E is a short series from the author of Yu Yu Hakusho and Hunter x Hunter, but it is quite different from his big hits. It works out as a series of short stories, around 2-3 episodes in length (the series is 13 episodes total). The main character is quite probably insane, but lots of fun to watch. I've read the manga and watched the anime. The manga has a bit more of a horror aspect, while the anime is almost pure comedy, but the stories are the same (as far as I remember).

If you enjoyed Yu Yu Hakusho or Hunter x Hunter, or simply like sci-fi comedy, then you should give Level E a shot.

Regretful that I bought it. It could be a problem with me, but the series just seemed a bit too silly for me.It had great moments, but I had difficulty enjoying it.
