Fast paced and fun addition to a great series!,
By Literati Lexicon (USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Leven Thumps and the Eyes of the Want (Hardcover)
I think this is the best book in the series so far. I know book one got alot of critical acclaim. That was well deserved, but it really only set the stage for the books to come. Book two took us into an entirely new world with new characters that I admit took awhile to get to know. Book three explodes out of the gate and does nothing but pick up speed from there. I literally could not put this book down until it was finished. If you haven't read the first two books or read one and not two, stop reading this and pick them up. You will need that knowledge to get this one, but you will not regret reading book three. It's a thrill ride with lots of twists and that classic dark, dry humour that we have come to expect from Obert and this series.

More of What You Love,

I absolutely love the Leven Thumps series of books, and was thrilled to discover that Book 3 of the series did nothing to damage my feelings for the previous volumes. If anything, it made me love them all more.In Book One of this series, Leven Thumps made his way to a magical world known as Foo, where dreams ARE reality. In Book Two, Leven helped his friend Geth journey across Foo to change back into his real form from the tiny toothpick he had become. And here, in Book Three, EVERYTHING happens. Leven meets the Want--the half-crazy sort-of-ruler of Foo, who sees humanity's every dream. Geth discovers he's shrinking, because part of him is missing.... A secret that threatens the existence of Foo gets out. The entire realm prepares for war. Leven's former guardian, Terry Graph, discovers a bizarre and powerful robe. The dangers of Foo begin leaking into reality. And a great evil, hidden beneath the soil, begins to reveal itself. This book is funny, surprising, and well worth the wait. Its ending is terrific, unbelievably shocking and exciting, and makes the entire book worth it. There are a lot of young adult fantasy books being written today, spawning in the wake of the HMS Harry Potter, but not all of them deserve the time they take to read. This one, however, the saga of Leven Thumps and the world of Foo, does. This one is great. This one, you should buy.

I love this book. It's fiction to every level and yet you can connect to it. I like it better than Harry Potter.

Now just what the hell happened?,
This review is from: Leven Thumps and the Eyes of the Want (Leven Thumps, Bk. 3) (Paperback)
I thought the first Leven Thumps book was pretty mediocre and that the second book was an improvement, but this? Oh man...Did you think that the secret would actually matter? That it would become a major villain? So did I. But the secret doesn't matter; it's done away with at the beginning of the book. What was the point of ever introducing that plotline Eventually, it's not just the secret that doesn't matter at all, but also Sabine. Sabine dies...seriously, Ezra siccs some grass on him and he dies. It doesn't affect the plot, it doesn't affect the characters, things continue on as if the villain never existed. What. The. Hell. The plot...what plot? I know that's a tired phrase - lots of reviewers use it - but I think it's accurate in describing The Eyes of the Want. Leven and Clover go to Lith and meet up with the Want, the three of them walk around a lot and talk about how things are changing and how things are going to happen. Leven is as boring as ever and Clover is still funny: so they're exactly the same characters as before. The Want is dimly interesting because his morality is kind of unclear, but he's also vague, hinting, and frustrating to no end. While Leven, Clover, and the Want are wasting time on Lith, Geth and Winter have their own pointless plotline. They spend virtually the whole book captured by a new antagonist. Geth is still a bit unique but annoying, and Winter is still a token girl character. Dennis and Ezra still rule, but they don't make any progress with their aims until the very end. The idea of Tim joining them never goes anywhere, and like Sabine, he leaves their company without them acknowledging it at all. Janet Frore is back, and I really liked her parts, especially one section where she meets a boulder character. There's a rising plotline that has to do with keys that could unlock the Dearth from the soil or something, but it's impossible to truly understand. Everything gets all winding and muddled. The ending of book three is laughably silly, Obert Skye was trying to go for some "twist". Obert keeps replacing the word "said" with various other verbs that are used incorrectly, such as "scolded", "bit", "complimented", "apologized", or "instructed". It's incredibly asinine when you have to read a line like ' "I'm sorry", he apologized" '. There's also the theme of the author claiming that the events of the series actually happened, but the reader has simply forgotten. He overdoes this, and since it wasn't mentioned earlier in the seires, there was no in point intrying th integrate it now. It felt like Obert was desperately trying to retool the series. Foo doesn't even hold any wonder for me anymore, now it's more like "Hey, look at the idiosyncratic thing I can do on this page!" I thought the Leven Thumps series was going places, but Obert Skye let me down. Most of the characters are terrible or static, the plot is non-existent or lame, Foo has lost its splendour. 3 out of 9

Wow! A twist I wasn't expecting.,
This review is from: Leven Thumps and the Eyes of the Want (Hardcover)
Who is The Want? In book three, there's more fast paced action, more magic, and especially more about Leven's past and family. With a twist I didn't see coming, it will leave you waiting for book 4. I loved it.

Kind of Weird...,

The best way to describe this series is, "really weird". Sure, the characters are good, but honestly, the whole Leven Thumps series is just kind of weird to me. Can't say I reccomend it.

My 10 year old son loves the Leven Thumps series. I had to start taking the book away from him at bed time as he was staying up too late reading it.

I love the Leven Thumps books. They are fun, funny, and clean. There nothing that is vulgar, immoral, violent, or pornographic in any way. The author has a great writing style where he is series, yet extremely funny at the same time. Everyone should read his books.

My 9 yo and I found books 1-3 at the library, and I loved them. I quickly read all three books, as did she, and I bought book 4 and Professor Winsnicker's so I wasn't left hanging (I'll donate these to our library when we are finished). The story is quite captivating, full of twists and adventure, and incredibly funny. I found myself laughing out loud quite often. I'm anxious for my younger child to read at this level and I will encourage him to read them as well.
