Product Description

Book 2 of the Nexus - the Second Satan

Thomas Lewis and his niece, Gemma, find their unique gifts exploited by local politicans to promote supernatural tourism - incurring the wrath of the local clergy and the right-wing media who brand the family as dangerous mutations to be both feared and despised

To make matters worse, the powerful Department of Security sends its most ruthless agents, Charren and Ambrose, to recruit them while the Church of the All-Seeing Eye declare them to be living prophets.

However, their founder, Edgar Ashcroft, returns from the dead to seek revenge on the Church that rejected him for his satanist past by opening a pathway for the Beast, the Second Satan, to consume mankind though its nightmares - and so the Dreamless Siege begins.

Only Thomas and Gemma can stop Ashcroft but first they need to deal with the media, cultists, talent scouts, secret service agents, enraged clerics, politicians, possessed thugs and - worst of all - the Dark Disciples.

About the Author

Paul D.E. Mitchell is a mid-fifties writer who after being a local politician, programmer, builder and single father is now pursuing a dream to explore complex theological and scientific ideas in novel form and plans at least twenty books.

"I had wondered about the concept of parallel worlds where a destiny choice at a key moment - the lever, fulcrum and rotation of the first three titles - sends the whole of Creation onto a new path," he said in a recent interview.

"I'm agnostic so I invented the Lewises and Sheppards to represent the yin and yang of existence and came up with the concept of Evolution as Intelligent Design where warfare and struggle advance species across the universe into higher and higher forms of life. The series of books have basically developed from there. The stories are complex and interwoven with the interactions and viewpoints of ordinary people drawn into the conflicts of the main characters that spawned yet more plots and ideas - leading to the Nexus series."

He is also writing poetry (The Long Grim Book of Thin) and has just published his latest music book - the Ka-Ching Guitar Guide.

More About the Author

Paul D.E. Mitchell (b1956) has enjoyed a varied career in chemistry, computing, teaching, lecturing, music (as a bassist in numerous bands), and served as a senior Cardiff councillor for 10 years.

First as a single-father and then as a carer for elderly relatives, he retired from the private sector to concentrate on poetry and bringing to life a complex near-future sci-fi/paranormal series of nine books called the Nexus.

The Nexus draws on myth, science, fantasy, the paranormal and theology in equal measure (plus a dash of Wiccan ancestry) to explore some interesting concepts about sentience and the reason for existence - also told from the point of view of ordinary people in a small town who find themselves at the centre of extraordinary events and interacting with the main characters.

He has published a guitar guide and his latest anthology of poems - the Long Grin and has just completed the sixth in the Nexus series, Shrines. Before the final trilogy is written, three stand-alone novels are planned: Mute, Light-Father and Ghost Army, the latter based on his experience as a domiciliary carer. He hopes to finish the Light-Father - which is aimed at 12-18 year olds by March 2012.

He has also edited and published 'Living With Siamese Cats' by Jenny Bass and 'Sacred Welsh Waters' by Chris Thomas and is advising three other authors.
