Editorial Reviews

Leverage focuses on a team led by former insurance investigator turned thief, Nate Ford (Hutton). Together, they try to level the playing field for people whose lives have been destroyed by the rich and powerful. In the final season of Leverage, the team will be forced to face changing personal dynamics as the relationship between Parker (Riesgraf) and Hardison (Hodge) heats up, and Nate continues to struggle with inner demons. Among their upcoming jobs, they will target a conniving shipping executive (guest star Cary Elwes); weathly scientist; an ex-hockey-player-turned-team-owner (guest star Treat Williams); a corrupt restaurateur; and a corrupt businessman (guest star Matthew Lillard). In addition, the team will once again face their nemesis, insurance-investigator-turned Interpol-agent Jim Sterling (guest star Mark Sheppard).

Leverage fans will already have DVR'd or purchased from Amazon each episode, and have watched them multiple times. Why do we need a boxed DVD set? Let me count the reasons:

1. To show Loyalty to our gang and let TNT know we're willing to spend for our team
2. So we can take the box with us on vacation or anywhere to share
3. The outtakes, gag reel, deleted scenes, are all eagerly awaited
4. AND THE COMMENTARIES!! Every episode of Leverage has a commentary with John Rogers and others. Who does that?

Leverage ran for five seasons with the team of modern day Robin Hoods living in Chicago, Boston and Portland (finally). The first season was filmed in Chicago (exteriors, pilot) and sound stages in L.A. The next four seasons were filmed in Portland, which doubled as every other location in the world, including Boston where the team was based seasons 2-4. Finally Portland played Portland in Season 5 when the team had to flee Boston. They relocated their headquarters in The Bridgetown Brew Pub, using a sound stage for interiors, but the real pub of that name for the exteriors.

Only 15 episodes make up season 5. When TNT did not renew "on time" in the summer while filming, the creators / producers / writers Dean Devlin, John Rogers & Chris Downey decided to give fans an ending they deserved. Many loopholes were left for the team to reunite as usual or with different twists should they be renewed for a sixth season. While I could spoil away here, I will wait. For awhile. We'll see.

Leverage is a fun ride with excellent writing. No gratuitous sex, swearing and the violence isn't of a permanent nature (they don't kill people).

The last two shows of season five rocked and the seris finale was done exceptionally well. With that being said TNT did not renew one of the best shows they had on thier station. Not only did they not renew the show, but they teased us with the possiblity of two shows. The "kids" being taught by the "parents" on how to successfully run a con from all angles. We watched them grow from a group of distrustful, socially stumped, loners to a "almost" super-tight family. Y'all know they still have some issues...LOL. Would have loved to see how long it actually took Nate and Sophie to marry and what the wedding would be like. Hardison and Parker still have things to work out between them. Eliot is still everyone's calvary and you know they and others still need saving. Leverage-Wish I had some with TNT.

The writing, the character development, the acting, the directing -- all excellent. The heads of the network that cancelled it are fools.

This season was in true Leverage style with great stories told by an incredible cast. Leverage is like no other show on television and always brings the best in storyline and acting. I will miss this show very much and I think TNT will come to regret its cancellation. Season 5 of Leverage, worth every penny!

I love the Leverage team. I loved how it ended as it began. I loved the chemistry between all the characters and how well they comedically played off each other and how many of the characters' key phrases made the last season all the more enjoyable.

If you're a fan of the series it is a good addition that pulls it a bit back to the original season, which makes this being the last season a sad thing to see. The upside is that they ended it as it would have ended if they had managed to make it to where they wanted to. All in all this season fleshes out the characters more, especially Eliot, Hardison, and Parker.

This is easily the best episode of Leverage so far. The series is nice and lighthearted, full of action and gadgets, twists and turns, etc. This episode is no different regarding these qualities, but sets itself apart with the use of a much stronger plot, and a much more serious tone. If you haven't given Leverage a chance because it seems a little hokey, then spend the $2.00 and give this episode a try. I think you'll find it to be very entertaining, suspenseful, and satisfying.

Since I don't have cable TV, I never watched Leverage on TNT but instead on DVDs from Netflix. I also discovered Leverage AFTER it was cancelled, which is all the sadder because Leverage is that rare gem in the TV wasteland. Simply put, Leverage is EXCELLENT:

1. The concept is clever: 5 misfits, each with special talents and skills, band together to help those bullied and victimized by the powerful.
2. The writing is excellent: Not a boring episode in 5 seasons; interesting subject matter; the 5 main characters are well-drawn, have distinctive personalities and interesting back stories.
3. The acting by the 5 main characters -- Academy-award winner Timothy Hutton as the mastermind, the versatile Gina Bellman as the grifter, Aldis Hodge as the computer genius hacker, Christian Kane as the glowering but good-hearted hitter, and fan-favorite Beth Riesgraf as the funny quirky thief -- and guest stars, notably Jerri Ryan, is simply superb.
4. Leverage succeeded in achieving all that with no trash talking, no obscenity or profanity, no nudity, but with intelligent and interesting plots and engaging characters for whom viewers grow to care and love.

I am dumbfounded and incredulous that the bureaucrats at TNT actually cancelled this show, and I'm heartbroken that we will no longer see more Leverage from this impressive writing-directing-acting team.
