Book Description

March 11, 2003
In the United States there are 19 million entrepreneurs, many of whom repeatedly launch business after business in an attempt to succeed. Intense competition and limited availability of venture capital makes the monumental task of starting a high tech business even more challenging today. Leveraging the Horizon provides a solution.Serial entrepreneur and active angel investor Ed Addison shows readers how to envision and execute revolutionary new ideas to get the best talent, form breakthrough products and businesses, attract capital, and ultimately displace incumbents. The book explains a philosophy-leveraging the horizon-and demonstrates why this philosophy is essential to the success of any venture. The engineer-turned-entrepreneur shows by example that success can be achieved through desire, planning and execution-not luck. He is the founder of ConQuest Software, which he sold to Excalibur Technologies in 1995 for $33 million, and Powerize.com, which merged with Hoover's Inc. in 2000 for $22 million. He has valuable insight to share and presents it in an informative, inspiring and captivating manner.

5.0 out of 5 stars Practical Advice for High Tech Entrepreneurs, April 4, 2006
This review is from: Leveraging the Horizon: Secrets of a Serial Entrepreneur (Paperback)
This book is an amalgam of the author's experience as a serial high tech entrepreneur and good business common sense. It provides a compendium of advice that one cannot find in more traditional business books and texts. It is for those who are thinking about starting a company -- especially, but not necessarily, a high tech company -- and are not certain what to do next or first. It addresses the "seed stage" of a new venture, primarily before venture capital is raised, when the team is first being assebled and the vision and product are first being formed. A must read for the first time high tech entrepreneur...

5.0 out of 5 stars The Real Deal, December 14, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Leveraging the Horizon: Secrets of a Serial Entrepreneur (Paperback)
Professor Ed Addison is the real deal. This book is the result of his experience, knowledge, instinct, mistakes, failures, and successes. I read this book while enrolled in an entrepeneurship class at university, and Prof. Addison was the instructor. He is an excellent educator and communicator, and I cannot recommend his book enough, not just for those venturing out to start their own business, but also those who work in larger corporations but want to innovate within that framework. To create or pitch new ideas, services, or products within an existing corporate structure is oftentimes even more difficult than striking out on your own.

Read this, keep this as a reference, and leverage Dr. Addison's experience.
