Your Mother's 550's,

I ride horses for a living and have worn 550's for several years. First of all there are 2 different kinds, 100% cotton with slight tapered leg and 98% cotton, 2% lycra with boot cut, they are both considered Relaxed Fit. I purchased my new 550's from Amazon and their not so great. The cut is not the normal 550, the boot cut is more flared and the longs are not as long. I looked to see where they were manufactured and it is Egypt. Levi, manufactures 550's several places, Egypt, Mexico and Brazil. I have found out over the years that the ones manufactured in Mexico have the better fabric that is heavier and what most of us have come to expect of Levis, so hence the cheaper price. Hope this helps the confusion. I'll wear these, but won't purchase 550's from Amazon again. It's not Amazon's fault, they are just trying to get them cheaper for the consumer, you get what you pay for.

These jeans weren't what I expected. I have a pair of 550's and the ones that came aren't anything like them.
The fit is lower on the hip than I like and the black stretch material picks up and shows every kind of lint imaginable. When I washed them they needed to be ironed because they wrinkled so badly I couldn't wear them after drying, and believe me I hate ironing. I guess you get what you pay for.

I've been wearing 550s for years. I ordered my first pair from Amazon, and they are nothing like what I've worn before. The material is not 100% cotton (which I knew from the reviews), but I wasn't prepared for the pants being of such a thin material and being so large they're falling off my hips. My video review will clarify how awful I think these pants are.

Let's Boycott Levi's Jeans for Women!,
By
This review is from: Levi's 550 Misses Relaxed Boot Cut Jean (Apparel)
Ladies,
I spoke with Levi's customer service today, and guess what? Women's Levi jeans are no longer 100% cotton! They do not have one pair that is 100% cotton. They don't make the men wear spandex, why are we? I'm shocked that an iconic institution like Levi's has resorted to taking away what they are known for. I will no longer buy Levi's. The stupid spandex they add makes the jeans lose their shape after a few hours of wearing. They are paper thin, and feel "icky!" Please, there must be someone out there who can organize a campaign to get the word out there to the world that Levi's is screwing us women over. These are not the Levis of the past. So disgusting, and sad.

Good fit for girls with thick legs + rear,

I love that the denim has a little stretch in it and that these don't look like the 1970's Levi 550's that I wore. The thinner fabric feels nice on my skin. After wearing for the whole day, they don't lose their fit. I think they are classic. I have size 8 legs & rear, but a size 6 waist. My size is always a problem when shopping for jeans. I never have enough rear coverage. These are not low cut, so no plumber's crack. They fit me nicely, look fine with sneakers and even better when dressed up a bit with a boot. I'm happy with them.

Boot cut jeans that fit to perfection!,

I was reluctant about buying these jeans without trying them first, but they turned out to be exactly what I wanted. They fit without hugging too tight and my nice new black suede boots show off very nicely.
I'm very happy with them. N.Fernandez

I really HATE shopping for jeans. My build and height just make it difficult to find any that fit. I'm 5'4" which means I'm not petite, but average inseam is always too long. Also, I have a similar build to another woman who posted a comment. I've got size 12 thighs and hips, but a smaller waist. Since my rear end is round and curvy, I often get "plumber's butt" when I sit down in a pair of jeans. I ordered these in size 12S and just hoped for the best. They fit GREAT. Love the slightly flared boot-cut. The fit at the waist and the inseam is perfect! I've already gotten a few compliments and have only worn them twice! During the day, I wear them with flats and when I go out, I'll wear them with a dressy top, boots or heels.
I wonder if the sizing has changed though. I ordered the SAME Levi's (Levi's 550 in the same exact size and inseam) a year ago from a department store. Those were nearly an inch shorter in the length, tighter in the waist, and rose up too much in the crotch. Yes, the dreaded Camel Toe! I feel like I won the lottery with this pair. For those of you who share my frustration with buying jeans, I say give these a try, especially if you can get free shipping or if they go on sale. |
