Customer Reviews

It was very easy to install and worked very well.
Rcaman
They are great as it allows the plug of the TV to be recessed in the wall and not be a hindrance when mounting the TV on a slim profile TV mount.
R. Maddox
This recessed receptacle requires a standard depth box; without a lot of wire traffic behind it.

Does what it is supposed to do. Ideal behind a wall-mounted flatscreen. Be sure to connect a ground pigtail, or you won't have a grounded outlet like with a regular duplex receptacle, since there is no ground strap.

This item works well for mounting flat screen TVs, allowing that conventional AC plug to fit neatly behind the screen.

Warning - these are not Tamper Resistant type (TR) and will not pass any electrical Code inspection. I bought some of these and they can not be modified. I thought I could take the front face casing off and add my own TR receptacle - but you can not do this. Go look at one at HD and you will see. Do not bother with these if you want to (a) pass a code inspection (b) do an outlet change that meets the NEC 2011 code.
This applies not just to California but the entire country since the NEC code is applicable in all states.

Get a COOPER one that is tamper resistant for about $10 here on Amazon: Cooper Wiring Devices TR780W-BOX 15-Amp 3-Wire 125-Volt Tamper Resistant Recessed Duplex Receptacle 2-Pole, White

Note: if you already have some of these and don't want them to go to waste - the NEC says you can still use a non-TR outlet behind a Range/Refrigerator and high on ceiling or above 5.5ft. But if you haven't purchased yet I highly recommend the Cooper TR one. Check with your local inspector though, they may have some rules more strict than the NEC and may not allow non-TR anywhere.

The manufacturer commented on this review(What's this?)
Good Day,

The National Electrical Code requires that Tamper Resistant receptacles be installed in new residential construction but allows exemptions for receptacles that are installed six feet or higher above the floor, where this device is typically installed. However, local electrical codes must always be followed and we regret any inconvenience this device may have caused you.

i found this wall receptacle to be no more difficult to install than any other 1-gang receptacle, recessed or not. it securely receives the plug for my hdtv mounted on the wall, and provides enough extra depth that the cord isn't kinked or smashed against the back of the tv.

it also looks good enough mounted on the wall that i wouldn't mind if it were visible, rather than being hidden behind the tv. i will use this product again if i need another recessed receptacle.

I installed a TV in my last home mounted on the wall. I did install an outlet to plug the TV into behind the TV but didn't account for the lack of space between the wall and TV. It did work out then but the plug was definitely pushed up tight against the wall doing it with a regular outlet. I moved and installed my TV above my fireplace and needed to run/install another outlet so cables/plugs weren't drooping everywhere. This was a great solution as the plug fits nicely as the receptacle is recessed.

Easy to install, Only problem I had with it was when I tried to plug my TV in. The plug wouldn't go all the way in either receptacle. I pushed the TV out of the way so I could get a straight shot at plugging it in and after that I had no problem plugging it in.

I could have used a regular outlet but, with this solution nothing is likely to get damaged.

I would recommend this to anyone who needs power in a tight area.

I used this to hide plug behind tv when I hung my tv on the wall. Doesn't crimp cord and fits in the small 14 cubic inch electrical box.

Long gone are the days of a single recessed receptacle for a clock. Your grandmother might still have a 120 VAC wall clock and, hidden behind the clock is a recessed receptacle where the short clock cord is tucked away.

Today, with the advent of the flat screen, wall mounted TV screens, a modern, duplex receptacle that is recessed has found a new home. One can neatly tie the power cord to the mounting bracket and plug the power cord into this recessed receptacle and still maintain a close to the wall, wire hidden aspect. If a Blu-Ray player or a cable/satellite/FiOS receiver is part of the mix, there is another receptacle available for those devices as well.

It was very easy to install and worked very well. I highly recommend this to anyone trying to find a way to keep the cord tangle to a minimum.
