4.0 out of 5 stars Am very pleased
Bought a new home and installed 8 ceiling fans. These Fan Controls are so nice looking and even give you 4 speeds instead of three. It's great too that they fit the decora style switch plate.

These were very reasonable on Amazon compared to buying at the hardware store.

3.0 out of 5 stars Works as advertised, but knob is a bit stiff.
This switch is at least eight dollars cheaper than the ones you can get at the Home Depot.

Out of the box, the switch works as advertised. However, the knob is too stiff. It's a bit hard to turn. Maybe if they added a textured or rubberized knob, it would give you better traction.

Otherwise, there's nothing else negative to report about it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simple install, June 10, 2009

Installed 2 in like 20 mins, they just have a ground wire and red and black wire, replace single pole switch. After reading the poor reviews on the slide type switches, went with the knob type.

Med speed on our fan was a bit fast, but now that it is a 4 speed, med speed is slower and more comfortable....and in Arizona a ceiling fan is a God send! The switch can be slid back and forth due to play in the screw holes, thus lining up well, when you put back on the wall plate.

Looks so much better than chains hanging down. And the knob is easy to turn.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy to install, works as required, June 14, 2011

Bought a new house, and the builder installed these switches for all the ceiling fans. In the process of shuffling the fans around, I moved a fan into a room without one of these pre-installed. The switch worked perfectly. Simply install switch, put fan on highest speed setting (using pull cord) then tuck the cord away. Now the fan is completely controlled from the wall.

1.0 out of 5 stars Darn..., April 5, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
What a waste of money, The only speed that works is "MAX" every other speed is so slow the fan doesn't move any air! The Speed Control is rated for 1.5A and the fan I have is brand new and only draws 1A. It works just fine on "MAX" but when you put it on "HI" the fan moves as fast as a carousel, I went to the hardware store and found a new speed control from a different brand, It costs more and had the same amp rating with one big difference, IT WORKED. I guess you get what you pay for, even though $20 is already a lot for a fan switch...

knob is too hard and stiff and difficult to turn

also if you go straight to medium setting it doesnt work- you have to first go to max and then dial down

also it interferes with other radiofrequency electronics such as dimmer cabinet lights in the room next door

3.0 out of 5 stars Get a grip!, January 13, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This switch has a nice, clean, simple look and fits in well with other Decora switches and wallplates. It was easy to install by following the directions. If you installed other switches before you'll have no problem with this one.

My concern comes in with using the switch. Mainly two concerns:

1. The switch knob is glossy and slippery and very small. If you have large hands you'll find this a little challenging to grip and turn with ease. Also, you have to hold it firmly or it will just slip in your fingers as you turn it. It is too bad they didnt make the knob with ridges in it to provide some friction while turning.

2. The other issue is that when I first turn it to MAX (the first setting) the fan powers up then stops, I then have to fiddle with the swtich knob till power resumes on the fan. At first I thought maybe I had a bad wire connection so I checked and the wiring is fine. Maybe I have a defective unit, not sure, but if it continues I will probably purchase another controller and return this one.
