Amazon.com Product Description

The Leviton OSS10 Decora Passive Infrared Wall Switch Occupancy Sensor with LED Night-Light is an ideal solution for subtly lighting otherwise dark rooms in hotels, nursing homes, children's rooms, and other spaces where guide lighting is important. Its energy-saving LED night-light feature provides a dimmable guide light, while a second motion sensor adjusts additional lighting as movement is detected. The two sensors act independently of one another, and the night-light has two modes for custom settings. An adjustable field-of-view that can be set between 32 and 180 degrees provides additional options, offering user convenience while saving on electricity.

Leviton OSS10-IDW Decora Passive Infrared Wall Switch Occupancy Sensor
The infrared NightLight features an adjustable guidelight to make sure the room is always safely lit.
Dimmable Night-Light for Safety
With the OSS10, you can make sure the rooms in your home or hotel are always safely lit. When ambient light lowers to a certain level, the LED will switch on for visibility. A dial adjust allows you to set the brightness to where it's most convenient. The dimmed mode allows the LED to dim to five percent after five minutes of inactivity, brightening again only if it detects movement. In continuous mode, the LED night-light will turn on at full brightness when occupancy is detected and remain at that set level of brightness.

Dual-Sensor Lighting for Convenience
This switch functions as both a night-light and a wall switch for lighting systems--two separate sensors operate independently. When its sensor detects movement in a low-light situation, the LED switches on for safe guidance. Set the switch to activate overhead lights for additional illumination, or keep the room lit only by the LED to avoid unwanted overhead lighting.

Save Energy and Money With Auto Shut-off
You can manually operate the OSS10 as you would any other light switch. Additionally, the overhead lights will remain on as long as there's motion in the room. After an adjustable period of inactivity, the room lights will turn off and the night-light will switch on. This auto-off functionality means an end to empty rooms lit by overhead lights.

This product comes with a manufacturer's limited 5-year warranty.

Product Description

The designer occupancy sensor wall switch with LED NightLight is designed to provide occupancy detection with a Guide Light/NightLight all in one clean, attractive wall switch device. The NightLight automatically illuminates based on the ambient level of light present in the space providing a comfortable, low level of light that helps guide the occupant without activating general lighting. It operates separately from the lighting load controlled by the occupancy sensor. Manually switch lights ON and automatically switch lights OFF. Offering the same performance features as the ODS family of occupancy sensors, this model has the ability to reduce (dim) and turn off the luminance of the Guide Light function with a simple dial setting. The LED NightLight consumes less than one half of a watt providing energy savings and guide lighting when room lights are off. The controlled lights will remain ON until no motion is detected and the scheduled time-delay has expired. The LED NightLight operates separately from the controlled lights and will turn ON via a photocell when the ambient light in the space is approximately less than 1 foot-candle and turn OFF when the ambient light exceeds 5 foot-candles. The LED NightLight is adjustable for continuous mode or dimmed mode. In the dimmed mode the LED dims to approximately 5% of full brightness after 2 minutes of no occupancy. When in the manual ON switch mode, the LED NightLight will go to full brightness per the adjustable setting when occupancy is detected and the ambient light level to the photocell is less than 1 foot-candle. It returns to the low setting when occupancy is no longer detected and the ambient light level present to the photocell is less than 1 foot-candle.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very smart switch that works with fluorescents!, September 1, 2010
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
Over the course of the last year, I've been slowly replacing light switches in my house with both this model (OSS10-IDW) as well as the OSSNL-IDW switch. Before settling on these Leviton switches, I tried pretty much every other motion sensing switch I could find at my local hardware stores - but none of them worked quite right (including other Leviton models).

The problems with those other switches fell into two basic categories:

1) Most of the motion sensing switches on the market will NOT work correctly with fluorescent lights - including CFLs. The main problem is that they will cause the lights to flicker excessively when turned on, and they will never quite turn 100% off either.

2) Many motion switches have to be calibrated for the ambient light level to work correctly. This is a major pain if you install the switch in an area where the light level changes throughout the day.

Fortunately, these new Leviton switches completely resolve both of the problems I mentioned and have worked perfectly for my needs.

Before getting into the things I like about this switch, I need to do a quick comparison between the OSS10-IDW and the OSSNL-IDW. These switches both look identical; and, they actually both come with the same user manual and installation instructions from Leviton. Here are the key differences:

1) The OSSNL-IDW supports BOTH manual-on/auto-off as well as auto-on/auto-off modes and the OSS10-IDW ONLY supports manual-on/auto-off. In other words, if you want a manual-on/auto-off switch, both of these will fit the bill perfectly - so be sure to compare prices before assuming the OSS10-IDW has less features and will be cheaper. In fact, at the time of this review, the OSSNL-IDW is actually selling for 25% less here on Amazon! If, on the other hand, you want a motion switch that will turn on automatically - you should be sure to get the OSSNL-IDW. (There are some reviewers that claim this switch (OSS10-IDW) will turn on automatically, but that isn't correct.)

2) The other difference is that the auto-off range for the OSS10-IDW can be configured between 30 seconds and 30 minutes. The range for the OSSNL-IDW can be configured between 30 seconds and 2 hours. Everyone's needs will be different here; but, in my opinion, the smaller range is actually better since it is easier to narrow down a specific time in that range. If you do want the auto-off configured for more than 30 minutes, be sure to stick with the OSSNL-IDW.

Now that I've covered the differences, I'll focus specifically on what I like about the OSS10-IDW:

1) This switch is easy to install. There is one more wire compared to a typical switch since the switch itself needs to keep power - but the wiring is very simple and the instruction sheet is clear about what needs to be done.

2) The switch is highly configurable. Things that can be adjusted include: auto-off time, motion detection range, and the nite light dimmer (the nite light can be completely turned off as well). There are also integrated blinders if you don't want the switch to detect motion from a specific area.

3) This is a smart switch. Even though the switch is manual-on/auto-off, it will turn itself on automatically if you walk into the room right after it turned itself off. This is perfect for closets.

4) The switch is very sensitive to motion. Unlike some other switches I tried, you won't have to wave your hand periodically to keep it on - it detects even the slightest motion, which has been great for us.

5) The night light is handy in some cases. I also like that I can turn it completely off since that is what I prefer more often than not.

6) I know this is subjective, but I believe this is also the best looking motion switch I've seen.

Although this switch has worked well, I have found that the cover over the configuration dials is kind of a pain. The problem is, once you install the faceplate, the cover can no longer be easily removed. Fortunately, once the switch is configured, you'll never have to touch the configuration again; but, it seems to work best to just leave that cover off for a day or two while I'm messing around with finding the optimal settings (each room is just a bit different).

Overall, I am very pleased with these Leviton switches and I highly recommend them. As I mentioned before, be sure to consider the OSSNL-IDW before buying this switch - but I think most people looking for a manual-on/auto-off switch will be happy with either one.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works correctly, but does NOT turn on lights when you enter the room, August 31, 2010
By
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
I originally thought I had a problem with my switch, but - after speaking with their technical assistance - it is working as intended.

Important note: This switch does NOT turn on the lights when you enter the room. It is intended only as an energy savings device to ensure the lights aren't left on inadvertantly.

There is a button that you push to turn the lights on or off. This is the main means by which the switch is intended to work.

You can set the movemement timing to set the delay when the lights turn off after the last movement was detected.

If the lights turn off based on a lack of movement, they can be turned back on by waving your arms around within 30 seconds after they turn off - BUT the ability to turn the lights back on through movement ends 30 seconds after they turn off. After 30 seconds, you need to push the button to turn the lights back on.

This will NOT automatically turn ON the lights when you walk into a dark room.

There is also a nightlight that can be adjusted based on strength.

The coverplate is not included, but a single gang cover can be purchased for less than a dollar at most hardware stores.

POSTSCRIPT: It seems several of the reviews here from Vine are actually linked to the wrong product. Those reviewers received a switch that WILL turn on the light when you enter the room. This OSS10 model does not do that. I have tried - and failed - to figure out the Leviton naming conventions - lots of things that sound alike but have different functions. If you are considering purchasing this, I'd be very careful that the exact model numbers correspond to: (1) what you are purchasing; and (2) the functions you want.

5.0 out of 5 stars Does Exatly What it Says it Will, December 12, 2010
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
This Leviton switch is designed to give you a third hand and in many situations, it does just that. The installation was very easy, even for a marginal handyman like myself. You have to turn the lights on when entering the room, but as long as there is periodic movement, the light will stay on. When the movement stops for a period of time the lights go out. The very low power nightlight feature is very nice feature. I'm using it in the laundry room and so far I am very hapy with it's performance. So Far I have found no issues or problems.
