The plastic is thick and has a very nice texture. They are slightly larger than standard wallplates, but nothing you'll really notice. If you are into color coordination, these wallplates and switch snap in covers are available in a bunch of different colors.
The wallplates require no tools to install; they simply snap over four plastic tabs on the switch. The wallplates pop off fairly easily with the twist of a screwdriver at the top or bottom. I'm not sure I really trust plastic tabs over the long haul, but that is how Leviton decided to solve attachment.
Compared to the Decora or Lutron systems, this wallplate is much nicer. With those older two piece systems, you screwed in a baseplate over the switch and then snapped on a flat cover plate. I have some five year old Decora wallpates that already look tired, the cover plastic has warped and discolored. I'm not positive this Renu system will stand up any better than the two piece strategy.
These wallplates can't easily be covered with wallpaper and still attach properly. You'll either have to buy a plate in the primary color, or paint the white one. All the other variety of rectangular switch / receptacle wallplates can be wallpapered.
Pros to this plate:
The plate is slightly larger in width and height so that it will cover a damaged area around your outlet or switch.
The plate easily snaps into place and fits well as long as you have correctly installed your light switch or outlet (the switch or outlet must fit square against the wall surface)
The plate comes in multiple colors to match the multiple colors you can change on the switch.
Negatives to this plate:
The plate is not quite as secure as one that is mounted using a screw (it can be knocked off of the outlet or switch).
The cost of the plate is much more than a standard plate.
The added width and height of the plate may be a problem if your switch or outlet is in a tight location.
The main selling point to this collection (quick connect plate and changeable color outlets and switches) is that you can make changes in your color scheme without having to paint your outlets, switches, covers or rewire outlets or switches if you buy an outlet or switch of a different color. I am not really sure how much you save in time doing this as you still must disconnect the electricity and you still need to remove the outlet or switch from the mounting box in order to change out the color elements. While you do not need to remove the wires and re-install the wires, I am not sure that is really much of a time saver for the cost.Read more ›
The cool thing about this system is both the outlet cover and faceplate are modular. You can choose from a multitude of colors and both always match. Usually just the faceplate is available in a lot of different colors. The outlet itself is usually only made in a few colors. I went with the white as that is what I already had, but if I get the ambition to paint I'll replace them to match the paint. The finish on the outlet and faceplate is a nice flat, slightly textured pale white - very tasteful. Everything just pops off for cleaning, too. No worries about wiping down a live outlet with a wet cloth. Wash it under the water, dry, and reinstall good as new! And I love not needing a screwdriver to do this. It takes just seconds to do - though the first time I had a little trouble and had to consult the instructions again.
The reason I only gave 4 stars is the cost. About 2x a regular GFCI outlet, and even a higher multiple for the faceplate. But if the decorator touch is for you, it is probably money well spent.

Had to return this. No backing so either there was a big mistake when this was shipped or they have no idea how a screwless cover works. Just sayin' ~Published 18 days ago by rjkarma
Read the fine print. Useless without the plate that allows you to snap it on to whatever switches/plugs you install separately. Read morePublished 9 months ago by TLM
This is NOT stainless steel as the title reads. It is plastic, and painted to (sort of) look stainless steel, but I could tell before taking it out of the package that it was not... Read morePublished 9 months ago by imelda's mom
Snaps right on, matches the switch perfectly. The one thing I *don't* like is this is the ONLY plate that'll fit the corresponding switch. Read morePublished 11 months ago by Guisseppee Q. Schvatzenheimer I
