Automated Control of Lights, Fans, Pumps, and More
The timer switch works for single-pole or three-way applications when used with the Vizia + remote switch - VP0SR (sold separately). It offers automated control of lights, fans, and motor loads in your home or business, reducing energy waste and lowering costs.

To enhance home security, this timer allows homeowners to set their lights to turn on and off for a lived-in look while they're away. Able to automate control of heat lamps, pool pumps or bathroom fans, it is also ideal for outdoor lighting or seasonal indoor lighting and decorations.

Easy Programming with up to 50 Timer Event Settings per Day
The timer switch offers a professional mode that has the flexibility to program up to 50 on/off event settings per day, so it's easy to customize to suit your lighting needs. It can be programmed for weekdays, weekends, all days, or any combination of days. Thanks to the large backlit display, timer settings are easy to read at a glance, and a green LED serves as a locator light when rooms are dark.

Astronomical Clock for Unbeatable Accuracy
For optimum accuracy, the timer switch features an astronomical clock that can be programmed to automatically adjust to local sunup and sundown times, as well as Daylight Saving Time. The built-in rechargeable battery never needs replacement and keeps the programmed settings in the event of a power interruption.

- Clear installation instructions.
- Easy to program the automatic sunset/sunrise times.
- Informative display.
- Built-in rechargeable backup battery; no need to replace disposable batteries.
- Works well with LED bulbs (I am using an INCU7W 7W LED bulb). See below.

- Pricey (I have seen timers for about $25).
- No long-term experience with the built-in rechargeable battery.
- Display is difficult to read unless the backlight is on.

1. If you want to use the automatic sunset/sunrise time to control a load, you need to perform 3 steps: program the time/date, set your latitude and longitude, and finally set one on/off event.

2. My previous timer, an Intermatic EJ500 timer, did not turn off the power completely when it should have been off. This problem became evident when I replaced an incandescent bulb with a LED bulb. The LED bulb would blink every few seconds while the timer was in the "off" position. I did not notice it when I used an incandescent bulb because the latter needs much more power to generate light than the LED bulb. The blinking did not consume much power, but many guests told me that my light is burnt out. The problem was rectified by installing the Leviton VPT24.

I bought the Leviton because it was the only timer switch I could find that changed sunset times and was available in light almond color. The switch comes packaged with ivory, light almond, and white faceplates. It has 5 wires on the back (one each for: power, load, neutral, ground, and 3-way switch operation). Instructions were clear and the switch installed easily. Because the switch is a little big, the directions recommend a switch box 2.5 inches in depth.

Programming was not difficult since the directions are very good (IMHO), but it was not intuitive and the directions are a must have. There are two setup options, pro and standard. The standard setup is conisderably simpler and basically is used if you only want to do time-on and time-off programming. If you want to take advantage of the switches sunset, sunrise, and daylight savings time options you will need to perform the Pro setup. I can't imagine why someone would pay the extra money for this switch and then not use the solar functions. I programmed the switch in about 5 minutes and it came on perfectly at "sunset" for my lattitude/longitude. With the built in battery I'm hoping I'll never have to program the switch again.

Bought two of these units 9 months ago. Was attracted to these units for the automatic adjustment at daylight savings time start and end, and the ability to program the ON times around sunset. Installed and programmed the units with no significant problems. Programming these is no fun though (and I program computers for a living).

Noticed right away that the units did not seem to know the right weekend for changing to/from daylight savings time. Oh well, they're installed now, I figured I'd just turn off the auto-DST feature, and re-program as needed in spring and fall. So rationale #1 for buying was a FAIL.

Noticed a couple of months ago that both units were not turning lights on/off as expected - turns out they had lost their settings and needed to be reprogrammed. I infer from other reviews this was due to power outages, which we experience occasionally.

One of the units now continues to function acceptably turning circuit on and off automatically.

The other unit does not turn lights on and off automatically as expected, and nothing I have tried has been able to correct this. When the AUTO program tries to put them ON, the lights do not illuminate. However, when the AUTO program thinks they should be OFF, I can illuminate the lights using the manual control button on this unit.

Oh, be aware that this model does not seem to have a full manual mode when you have enabled the automatic mode. If the switch thinks the lights should be ON (according to the auto mode settings), then you can turn them OFF, or you can go back to AUTO mode. If the lights are not in fact ON (illuminated), and the switch thinks they are ON, you can not put them ON manually - pushing the manual control button only causes the switch to go from OFF to AUTO.

I bought this unit in December 2012 and installed it and programmed it without a hitch. I installed it inside my enclosed porch to operate an outside LED light by the porch door. I did need to install an over sized electrical box because of the size of this unit. This was not a problem as I am quite comfortable performing electrical tasks. I programmed it to turn on 30 minutes after sunset as determined by my GPS coordinates. I carefully monitored the performance of this unit to ensure that the turn on time was advancing as the days got longer. It did. It also acted as advertized when we switched from Standard to Daylight Savings time. I was very pleased with only one exception. The inability to offset the the turn-off time so I could get the unit to turn off before it got too light in the mornings. I could live with that.

Then it happened: I came home the night of June 20, 2013 to find the porch light off and the face on the switch was dark. The circuit breaker was on and I tested the unit to make sure it was getting power. It was.

This was a big let down for me as I was quite happy with this unit up to the point of failure.

UPDATE 03/30/2014 - I should have updated this a while ago, but anyway, here goes. I contacted Leviton Customer Service about my plight 10 months ago and they replaced the failed unit totally at their expense. I installed the replacement unit when I received it and it has been working "spot-on" ever since. All I had to do was furnish an invoice proving I had actually bought the product and I was able to scan the invoice and email it to them. It was quick and easy. Thank You Leviton! I will definitely buy more of these.
