Crying and Screaming,
By Ivan Talking (Star Island, MN) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Lewis Black: Red, White & Screwed (DVD)
We were crying with laughter and screaming at the TV. Not only do I recommend that you buy this DVD, I'm going to buy copies for my friends.
I haven't seen his other DVDs, so I can't comment on whether those are better. You'll have to rely on the other reviewers for that. But during my years living in Washington DC, I saw my share of comics at the Warner Theater and I can assure you, Lewis Black KILLS!! Razor sharp, topical humor delivered with the kind of righteous anger that makes you leap off the couch and yell "YES!!" His comments on current events in America are spot-on and neither side of the political aisle escapes his withering assessment. So gather some friends, open the libation of your choice, turn on the DVD and let the crying and screaming begin!

good but hard to top his previous work,
By Carefully Apathetic (indoors, Earth) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Lewis Black: Red, White & Screwed (DVD)
Personally, I thought Lewis Black's "Black on Broadway" was quite a bit better but I'd put this one in at second place out of all of his multimedia work. He doesn't get as pissed off and exasperated in this one and sometimes even seems like the emotion is forced. I know it must be hard to get pissed off every show just to satisfy an audience so can't really complain about him, he has some great points....there's a good bit about how America is building a 700 mile long fence to keep the mexicans out but we can't even build the levies in New Orleans after the hurricane disaster....hehe....anyway, this DVD is good and is mostly new material sorta but if you don't have Black on Broadway, go for that one...or save that one as best for last...

Absolutely hilarious stand up special from Lewis Black,
By N. Durham "Big Evil" (Philadelphia, PA) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (TOP 500 REVIEWER) (HALL OF FAME REVIEWER) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Lewis Black: Red, White & Screwed (DVD)
Lewis Black never ceases to make me laugh. Red, White, and Screwed finds the in your face, politically charged comedian in Washington; and where would be a better place for the comic to perform I ask of you? Black reveals his troubles with scheduling his performance at the Kennedy Center (just picture someone sitting there, counting how many times he said the F word), while offering scathing commentary on Dick Cheney's hunting "mishap", the Iraq war, homophobia, and offers his thoughts on horse shows as well. He also goes into great length in describing his upbringing in Silverspring, Maryland and why he tells people he's from D.C., as well as getting the call to perform for the President himself (which concluded in a hysterical result). Black may be more coarse than he needs to be to get his point across, but he remains one of the best stand up comedians out there today, and this HBO special only offers up more proof of that. There's a few extras included on the DVD, but nearly enough as one would like.

Just pertaining to the performance,
This review is from: Lewis Black: Red, White & Screwed (DVD)
The first half of this is all new and it's great stuff.
However, the second half of this is stuff he's done on previous albums. Considering how he said there are so many things for him to write jokes about that when new things keep happening each day that he can't keep up with them...Well, why not leave the old things where you've already done them and do new material instead? I'm a pretty big fan of his comedy but I wouldn't buy this. Although, it's still worth watching a few times because of the way Lewis Black's face looks when he gets mad (which is most of the time). 3 1/2 stars

Lewis Black - Red White & Screwed - Excellent!,

This review is from: Lewis Black: Red, White & Screwed (DVD)
Lewis does it again with his insightful humor and on target perceptions of the world we live in, topics such as government, current government adminstration, religion, evolution, immigration, Katrina, and much more. This DVD is as good as his Black on Broadway DVD. His delivery is second to none. A DVD is the best way to see Lewis. Just getting an audio CD of his act is only half the show - seeing him and his expressions is truly hilarious. He has fine tuned his jokes and delivery and in my opinion.... no other comedian today can match. Beware, he uses expletives liberally and other statements that may shock you, but uses them to make his points so they actually work well in the act. Note: May not want to listen to this in front of young children... but you must see this and buy these as gifts for your friends. I have and they thank me!!

Lewis Black is absolutely right on the mark with adult comedy that is based on true facts. In these difficult economic times when people have lost their lifetime savings and investments often over a million dollars, it's very difficult to find anything to laugh about.
However, life goes on and with Lewis Black, you can sort of work your way through the hatred for the stock market collapse, the bank failures, the housing market collapse and all the bailouts, and start to find a dose of medicine to get you smiling again. It doesn't fix the economy, it doesn't bring crude oil back down to below $18.00 a barrel, which by the way, is the only thing that will stabilize world economy. Lewis Black covers a vast array of subjects that all fit with today's failing economy and brings a bit of humor out of it all. Lewis Black is absolutely refreshing and a Lewis Black DVD is by far a lot less than the cost of a mental therapist or an extended stay at a mental hospital for any economic stress you might be going through right now. In these difficult times when people have lost their retirement savings, their money in their 401K plan has been stolen by greedy CEO's, their dreams of a retirement home have gone out the window along with the jobs that moved to China and Mexico, well Lewis Black can bring tears to your eyes, tears of joy and laughter, something we can all use a lot more of right now. With a Lewis Black DVD you can take off the oxygen mask and start breathing again.

Some of the Best Bipartisan Commentary Out There,
This review is from: Lewis Black: Red, White & Screwed (DVD)
If you're of an opinion that ranges from the far left/right or are easily offended by religious/political humor, then you're likely to miss out on some of the best bipartisan commentary out there. Black's writing certainly overshadows his delivery, so if you can get past his raspy voice and rolling eyes, then you're bound to be entertained by what he has to say -- and maybe even agree! In either case, it's refreshing to hear somebody speaking their mind that actually makes sense. (7/10)
