Spacious, tidy, but..., August 28, 2011
The bag is spacious, helps to keep make-up items separate and tidy; I like being able to see at a glance where is each thing. Seems sturdy and not easily breakable However two issues:
- Lack of a hook - the bag has a loop, not a hook, which makes it less practical - not possible to hang it from a towel railing etc
- Closing - when full, the two snap buttons do not hold the bag closed - A lace or elastic to tie it closed would have made it much more secure. In the end it does not matter that much to me since I've found it takes up less space in the suitcase if I just lay it open (inner side down) on top of the clothes. (I only do this because I trust it's sturdy and won't break/leak)

Spacious bag good for many items or large containers, May 30, 2011
This review is from: Lewis N. Clark Layover Cosmetic Roll-Up Bag (Apparel)
For years, I've used a jewelry roll as a cosmetics bag and found it the ideal tote for my make-up. I much prefer the individual see-through compartments that hold my make-up in an organized manner to using one big bag that mixes it all together so that you have to dig to find what you need.
My old bag finally needed replacing, so I started the hunt. It wasn't as easy as you'd expect, but I finally found two options that looked promising at Amazon.com. None of the local stores had anything even remotely right for me.
The Lewis N. Clark Layover Cosmetic Roll-Up Bag was one of the bags I liked at Amazon.com, so I ordered it. Having now used it, I have mixed feelings about it. It doesn't exactly meet my needs, which caused me to rate it with only four stars. However, someone else may like the things that caused it to disappoint me, so it isn't really a failure.
It has four large compartments made of clear plastic, so they are easy to see through and find things. However, the large compartments mean that your cosmetics have plenty of room to slide around, promoting breakage of pressed powders, eye shadows, and blushes. Once these items break, they begin to leak powder, which will make the case very dirty. I much prefer a bag with smaller cases that hold items stable while in transit, protecting them from breakage.
The case rolls up and secures easily, but isn't very compact when it does. This means it takes up much more space in your luggage than it needs to, unless you have truly filled the cosmetic bag.
That said, it is very spacious and will hold a number of items and is especially nice for larger items.
This is a good case for someone who wants to carry many items or large items and isn't concerned about them sliding around. For someone like me, who needs something smaller that has individual compartments to hold things more securely, this is not the right case. Instead, I'd recommend
Travelon Jewelry Roll.
