5.0 out of 5 stars Ought to be a standard feature in every new car.
This silly looking little pillow is wonderful. It holds the head of a napping passenger at just the right angle to snooze, while keeping the neck from getting stiff and hurting when the person wakes up. I started buying these kinds of "donut with a bite missing" pillows about twenty years ago, and got some very strange looks when I used the pillows on long plane...

3.0 out of 5 stars Squishy, but not supportive enough
We used one of these on our trip to Brazil. The flight was long and sleeping on an airplane is never comfortable, especially with one's head lolling about.

We had two kinds of pillow: this one and two inflatables we had been given as a "going on vacation present". The inflatables were more supportive and were adjustable depending on how much air you wanted...

This silly looking little pillow is wonderful. It holds the head of a napping passenger at just the right angle to snooze, while keeping the neck from getting stiff and hurting when the person wakes up. I started buying these kinds of "donut with a bite missing" pillows about twenty years ago, and got some very strange looks when I used the pillows on long plane flights. Now I see that many travel warriors carry them, and that they are becoming common on long car trips as well. That's terrific.

This particular pillow is very comfortable, with lightweight foam beads inside a thin covering. The covering allows the beads to shift when the user moves their head slightly, so it will be more comfortable than a pillow that doesn't give. Also, the foam beads are much, much lighter than the solid memory foam or buckwheat hulls that I have found in other such pillows. It doesn't feel much heavier than an inflatable pillow, and is much nicer than one, because the foam beads don't make the crinkling noise associated with a plastic inflatable pillow.

The downside is that the thin cloth covering, which allows the beads to move freely, doesn't look very durable. If given to a young child, I would bet that the back seat of the car would be full of foam beads in about three seconds. Happily, I am not a young child, and have used this very comfortable pillow for many months with no problems whatsoever. It comes with a vinyl case, in which I store the pillow when not in use, avoiding the tears and damage associated with being thrown in the trunk. Otherwise, it gets no gentle treatment from me. If it does begin to tear, I plan to put the whole pillow in a nylon stocking as a quick/cheap repair, so I won't get little balls of foam all over my car. But for now, I'll enjoy the pillow for allowing me to snooze the miles away when it's my husband's turn to drive.

We used one of these on our trip to Brazil. The flight was long and sleeping on an airplane is never comfortable, especially with one's head lolling about.

We had two kinds of pillow: this one and two inflatables we had been given as a "going on vacation present". The inflatables were more supportive and were adjustable depending on how much air you wanted in them. The Lewis N. Clark pillow was just squishy and, admittedly, a stress reliever when playing with it in your hands whilst waiting for hours upon missing one's flight. :)

A very long over seas trip, economy class, YIKES! This neck pillow was awesome. Much softer and more comfortable than the blow ups. Well worth the money!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Pillow Ever, June 25, 2011

I've had the worst time finding pillows for my neck. I was in a car accident in '95 and received a pretty bad case of whiplash. At least for me, this pillow forms to my neck and is soft enough on the back of my head (I've also had multiple brain surgeries) so it doesn't cause a problem that way. It's also summer now, and I'm finding that it's not too hot. I do wish it had a place to put a small gel packet for ice or heat, but we can't have everything now can we? This is just about as perfect as it gets though. I'm so glad I bought it. I'm buying a second one just in case the first one gets a hole, or something catastrophic happens to it. My luck I wouldn't be able to find one again.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not for everybody, May 13, 2011

I bought this pillow for a backpacking trip through Europe. The pillow itself was ok but not great. The micro bead filling is a good concept, but the thickness of the pillow made it uncomfortable, especially when laying back into the seat. Its bulk makes it difficult to carry around if you're backpacking or taking just a small piece of luggage with you.

2.0 out of 5 stars Squishy but unsupportive, April 25, 2011

I was hoping to finally get some relief on long 6 hour plane rides with this neck pillow but i spend most of my time adjusting it and still getting a stiff neck from sleeping with it on the plane, and lugging it around the airport is a waste as well.

wish it was thicker and tougher.

4.0 out of 5 stars A bit stiff, but a great value for the price., July 22, 2010
This review is from: Lewis N. Clark Mood™ Neck Pillow (Apparel)
I took this pillow with me for my 10 hour flight from San Francisco to Germany, and then the subsequent 5 hour flight from Germany to Jordan. It definitely was an improvement over just the airplane seat because when you fall asleep it keeps your head from hanging in an uncomfortable position and rolling around. However, the pillow is filled with styrofoam which is stiffer than I was hoping, rather than sinking into the pillow like a soft cushion it lays rather firm onto it.

Like I said, it's a great thing to have when you want to sleep on the plane, and for the price it's a great value. However, you should keep in mind that there are most likely more comfortable (and I'm sure more expensive) options. Personally, the next time I make this kind of trip I'll be investing in a more comfortable alternative.

I bought this pillow before a 12 hour flight, and it really made the flight more comfortable. It provided a decent amount of support, but I would have liked it a little more firm. It is not inflatable, so you don't need to worry about it getting a hole mid-flight, although this does make it a bit bulky to carry around once you get off the plane. It does have a nice plastic carry case, though. Overall, I am satisfied with this product.

I loved the softness of this pillow and they way it molded to my neck and face (when I leaned to one side or the other). It is also extremely lightweight. I recently took it with me on a long haul flight and it was easy to fit/smush into my carry-on. My only complaint, if I had to have one, would be that I wish it was a bit longer on the sides because it did not always stay in place if I changed positions.

I took this on the plane to Ireland and it was wonderful. It was the most comfortable I've been on a flight. Highly recommended.
