I purchased this carrier for a long distance road trip (about 500 miles one way). I was completely satisfied with the purchase. It kept my belongings dry and added a lot of needed extra storage at a reasonable price. I have since used it several times and loaned it out to others for them to use too. After about 8 long road trips, the carrier is starting to show signs of wear. There is a minor hole at one of the corners. I still feel this is a good buy. It can be stored away easily and requires very little storage room. It fits back into its original box which is a little larger than a cereal box. The first time you use it, it takes about 40 minutes to setup and load with your cargo but, after that you could better that time to 20-30 minutes. I find using Rubbermaid containers fits nicely in the carrier and makes loading it easy.
If you are purchasing a carrier, keep in mind that this carrier can only be used if you have roof bars on the sides and on the front and back. Use of extra long strap to secure this carrier to the roof is recommended since the straps they provide can come loose in travel. The additional straps add an extra comfort level when you are driving. If you are driving in winter conditions, keep in mind that the vinyl material becomes very stiff and difficult to work with...even to the point where the Velcro will scrape you hands like sand paper. During Summer driving, the carrier gets peppered with bugs but, it does clean up very easy. Note that this carrier is not secure, so if you are planning on staying overnight at a motel during your trip, you must either bring all your belongings in-doors or don't place anything of great value in the carrier.
