Actual print speed is acceptable, but each print job takes way too long to actually start.

I recently purchased this printer and was surprised at how quickly the company shipped this item. Yes, looks like a great value, but know this before you make any decisions. The package does NOT include the following:
-USB cable (You will need to buy one separately: A-B type USB)
-Black ink cartridge
The price of the ink cartridges could vary, depending on where you want to purchase them. The black ink is sold for $19-$21; color from $20-$23. These cartridges are very small, so I would say they are pricey. If you are willing to spend more on ink, go for it.

UPDATE:

After owning this product for about a year, I can say that you should save those $30 and look for something better. If the package is missing the most important items and requires you to buy the most expensive ink cartridges, then it should, at least, print OK. After only SIX months, this product started printing slanted.

Rating goes down to 1/5.

The Lexmark Z2300 is a printer that appeals to those who seek a budget printer. With hopes of having a new printer for the price of a single ink cartridge I was lured in. I got mine at Sam's Club and gave it a try.

The unit feels and looks cheap. They only include one partial color cartridge and no USB cable (which is stated on the box so no points off yet). Installation was a problem in Windows XP SP2 (and I am very experienced with hardware/software). Both downloaded versions and the included software gave me headaches instead of results.

Bottom line: Cheap printer with the hopes of getting a bargain, but the printer didn't work so it is not a bargain.

* I ended up going with the HP Photosmart C4450 for only $59 it is a bargain because it is an all-in-one solution, looks good, and works! HP just makes good printers so look at their line instead.

Worst printer I've ever used. Worst, most nagging drivers ever. Actual print speed is acceptable, but each print job takes way too long to actually start. It's almost like they added a delay on purpose. If you you get an error window and want to cancel, clicking "cancel" isn't enough, you must also hold down the power button on the printer for three seconds. You must time yourself, there is no indication. Until you release the button, nothing changes. It requires 500MB of free space and 512MB Ram just to install this lousy driver! Calibration for new cartridge is compulsory. The freely available cartridges come with one-time use licences and shut down after one use. Refillable cartridges 14A and 15A almost impossible to get except online. Apparently, forced replacement is part of Lexmark's 'green' ideals. If you have no use for color printing and your color cartridge runs out, be prepared to click on warning windows for every print until you finally get so frustrated that you shell out the money for a replacement that you have no use for.

Yep it's a cheap printer. It's lightweight, doesn't take up much space, prints quietly and fast. I had no trouble setting it up and it's like the 3rd Lexmark inkjet I've owned in 4 or 5 years. I use mine EVERY DAY - just work it to death. When it finally dies it's not the end of the world - $25 - $35 and I'm back and printing again.

I'm quite happy with this printer.

Worst printer I have ever owned. Cartridges do not last and every time I replace one I get a realignment failure that does not print the page. Have to spend time fiddling with it to get it to work. Cartridges still have one third of the ink still in it when the printing starts looking terrible. Will never buy another product from Lexmark. Save your money!

Verified Purchase
When i was buying this printer i was more focus on the price but turns out it is a great little printer! I use it to print out my schoolworks, even tho I go to the library sometime because I don't wanna waste my ink. I would definitely recommend this product to college students with a tight budget, like me!

Only comes with a color ink cartridge, and it doesn't last long. I've also read somewhere that this printer partially uses the color cartridge to print black and white, even if you have a black and white cartridge in there.

And even if this is a cheap printer that does a decent job, the cost of the ink will get you. Plus the fact that they are selling you non-refillable cartridges without really making that clear, disguising it by calling it a "color return program", meaning that only Lexmark can make use of the cartridges that you have paid for after they're empty.

If you try to refill your spent cartridges, numbers 14 and 15, the printer won't accept them and will refuse to print. Apparently only the 14A and 15A version replacement cartridges may be refilled. This other option is that you can pay $4 more for the "A" version cartridges if you want to have the possibility of getting them refilled later.

Replacement cartridges for both versions are currently here on Amazon, but they are very hard to find in local stores.

If you want a basic cheap printer this Lexmark is great. The ink is kind of pricy but I only us it occasionally so I don't mind.
