Fast and easy to use,

I received the reader as a gift last night, plugged it into my Mac running OS X without installing any software, and it worked fine with both iPhoto and ImageCapture. My initial test showed that with my memory card, this was about twice as fast as connecting the camera through a USB connection -- nice, but I was hoping for faster. The device is also a bit bigger than I expected. I am fairly happy with this, although if I had not received this as a gift, I would have to think about whether being twice as fast as a USB reader is worth the extra cost.

Its firewire and its fast. i think that should summarize the whole product. :) the people who are not familar with FireWire standard, the transfer rate is upto 400Mbps which is way faster than USB1.x, and also in some cases, its faster than USB2.0 (which support upto 480Mbps) the reason depends on file size and chunks of data, FireWire is definitely better than USB (1.x and 2.0).Only one word of caution, the reader comes with 6-pin cable, this means it depends on the power of your computer, if you dont have the 6-pin port (e.g. in laptops) you wont be able to use it, the 4 to 6 cable wont work as power pins are missing in them. I am using it for my Kingston CF/512 MB card and it works great.

I've had this card reader for about two months now, running on a Mac G4 500 Dual processor under system 9.2. No problems. Does it's job well without glitches. Takes both Compact Flash Type 1 and CF type 2 cards, including my IBM microDrive. Download of large digital photo files is considerably faster than with my USB reader. Simple device without a lot of bells and whistles. Does what it's advertised to do at a good price.

Very speedy and reliable. Works with Mac OS X 10.1.1 with both Image Capture, and the Finder.

I use this product on Windows XP and a couple of CF 256 cards and let me tell you, it is unbeatable. It takes 10 seconds to transfer 100 MB. I tried USB 2.0 at a friend's and it is slower.I use it to transfer music, pictures, files and works great!

This product worked fine for about a year and then died. It seems as this is a common problem. Be careful.

I've had this reader since May, 2003 and haven't had any issues. It works flawlessly with my G4 iMac and G3 iBook.I have a Minolta 7Hi and a 512MB CFII card. When the card would be nearly full, my Minolta's batteries would be depleted before the pictures would be downloaded to the computer (about 20 minutes!!) through the camera's USB connection. This card reader does the trick in less than 1 minute with a full card and no worries about running out of power. It's a 6-pin firewire connector, and needs to draw power from your firewire port, so be sure to hook it up directly to your computer or to a *powered* hub. Highly recommended for $40. It was a no brainer for me, and I have gotten my money's worth many times over.

Got the product fast and in working order. I can now download a full gig of photos in 4 min rather than 18. Love it.

This reader was literally plug and play and I had no problems setting it up. It's much faster than a USB version I had tried before (I'm transferring 5MP files) and leaves my camera battery free for taking pictures instead of transferring them. All around, if speed is important to you then you'll be happy with this purchase. Otherwise, you can probably get away with a USB reader.

I've used standard USB readers before which is like watching grass grow when transfering large files. The Lexar Firewire reader is lightning fast by comparison. Get yourself a fast card like a 12x or faster and you'll never go back to a USB reader again.I'm glad I bought it, you will be too. |
