Great thumbdrive., January 4, 2005
This review is from: Lexar Media 1 GB JumpDrive Sport USB Flash ( JDSP1GB-231 ) (Retail Package) (Personal Computers)
I was able to get this last autumn for $50 after rebate. The fact that you can fit more than a CD-ROM's worth of data on this drive is killer.
The USB 2.0 is rather necessary, though. If you're moving a large amount of data from one PC to another, you'll definitely want the 480 MBit/sec transfer capability of USB 2.0... USB 1.1 may take a few years. However, the backward compatibility is still pretty nice, if you're only moving 10 MB or less.
I bought this before I knew of the JumpDrive MP3 player that Lexar makes. If you're really interested in adding MP3 capability later, it's only a $40 upgrade from this, which definitely enhances the value of this product.
Overall, I've had no problems, so it seems to be reliable to me as well.
It's a must-buy if you can find it for $60 or less.

Great support from Lexar?, December 5, 2005
This review is from: Lexar Media 1 GB JumpDrive Sport USB Flash ( JDSP1GB-231 ) (Retail Package) (Personal Computers)
Just thought I'd add a review after having read the one below. A little over a year after purchasing the product, the rubber cap split at the top, where it was attached to my keyring.
This is a problem as being able to have it on my keyring was a selling point for me. I called Lexar and after waiting on hold for under 5 minutes, I was instructed by the first person to take my call to simply email her with my address and a request for the replacement cap and they'd ship me one. I did so and received the cap in the mail 2 days later. Now, I'm fairly close to Lexar, so the travel time was a day at most. If you're in New York or Europe or something, it will take longer.
All said and done, GREAT customer service... FAST replacement of the cap at NO COST TO ME. Lexar JumpDrive Sport is the only USB key I'd use... the form factor and support are unbeatable.
UPDATE: It looks like other people have had similar problems with the split rubber cap and have NOT been getting free replacements. Given the large number of people reporting poor customer service, I would consider my experience to be the EXCEPTION at this point, and not the rule. I'd lower my rating of this product based on this, but that's not possible.

Wonderful!, July 1, 2005
This review is from: Lexar Media 1 GB JumpDrive Sport USB Flash ( JDSP1GB-231 ) (Retail Package) (Personal Computers)
Oh how I heart the Lexar Flash Drive. This is the best design I've seen on one of these flash drives and I always get compliments and questions on it. The rubber around the outside makes it safe to put on a set of keys--other designs don't have this and I've heard others fall off keys and get lost, get banged up beyond use, or simply aren't made to carry on keys. As a college student, it's great to have this on a set of keys so I have it everywhere. Surprisingly, I come across things quite often that I can quickly copy onto my JumpDrive and take home to my computer. This is a GREAT alternative to burning data CDs (or using floppy disks if you're still in the stone age :). I would HIGHLY recommend this. Make sure you buy the 1GB version though, because the smaller capacities aren't always capable of holding big files--either that or you'd have to delete a bunch of stuff to make room.
