Fast USB Flash Drive,

This review is from: Lexar JumpDrive Lightning 4 GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive JDP4GB-231 (Personal Computers)
There are lots of USB flash drives on the market and many brands market multiple models in multiple sizes. Performance differences can be huge (factor of 10) between brands and between different models within one brand and yet most companies don't publish performance information except possibly for their highest end model. This makes for a very confusing and frustrating market for users. With smaller drives performance is less of an issue, but if you're shopping for a 4 GB drive and really plan to use that space, performance is key. Imagine the difference between 3 minutes and 30 minutes for a transfer. Lexar Jumpdrive Lightning drives actually improve the performance of their larger drives. The performance listed on Amazon is actually the performance for the smaller 2 GB drive; the 4 GB drive is rated at 30MB/s read and 21MB/s write. This makes it one of the fastest drives available. Though performance can depend on the type of test you run, in very limited testing for me, it lived up to its performance claim.
I haven't used the included software, so can't comment on that. A blue LED on the drive is a nice touch, but it ends up on the down side of the drive in my 3 yr old Dell mini tower and so doesn't show. The end cap is potential losable, but so far seems to stick on well enough. The drive may be a little on the thick side and could potentially block usage of an adjacent USB port depending on the connector to the adjacent port, but so far this hasn't been a problem for me. Overall a great product for my usage.

This is a good product both in size and performance.
The only problem is that the PowerToGo software that comes preinstalled is not quite "Vista Ready" yet. However, the Lexar and Ceedo web sites have upgrades that can fix that. I've been using it now for over a month and have not had any problems with it. 4GB is a perfect size for maintaining all my work available for use on multiple computers. I'd definitely recommend this product.

The 4 GB jump drive is a terrific assistance for those who want to be able to store files in a portable medium.
To this point, the unit fits nicely into its "holder"; I lost the end to my 256 MB Lexar jump drive--most annoying. This system, to this point, seems to work better. The capacity of the jump drive is a major positive factor. Once one begins to store files that take up space, smaller capacity jump drives can get overwhelmed. 4 GB is more than enough space for my uses. It takes longer to transfer files than for my old 256 MB Lexar jump drive. On the other hand, that's a small price to pay for the much larger space available. All in all, I'm a satisfied customer.

I bought this because of its durability. It is fast enough. I find that the program that is on it is ok, but I dont use it very often. But at least when you open it up it gives you the option to open up the documents section instead of running the program. So even if you dont need to run a application it works to your liking. For that reason I would say that it is a good product. I think the only thing that I might like to see come with it is a carrying strap or something to help lug it around.

I used this flash drive for about 6 months for general files that I wanted to move from one computer to another, or just to have as backup. I kept it on my keychain so I would always have it with me (never know when you'll want to take some files off somebody else's computer) and it was great for this and I was glad to have it on me many of these times. It seemed to be plenty fast enough and the 'in use' light was a nice touch, but the software that comes on it was annoying. It sometimes wanted things to be installed or updated, but honestly, I don't know much about this software, I am just looking for a small storage drive. At one point I had music files on the drive that I could never see were there from my home computer. My home computer said the drives were empty, then when I went on another computer, I saw the files sitting there...
Then finally last month the cover on top just totally fell apart into 3 pieces. Most likely because it was always in my pocket being knocked around and squished. I am now looking into getting a USB with retractable top and less software on it.

speed- and quality that LASTS,
This review is from: Lexar JumpDrive Lightning 4 GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive JDP4GB-231 (Personal Computers)
this UFD is ideal for booting alternate OS: nLite XP Pro or pre install (BartPE or WinPE). Of the dozen or so high end UFD I own and have tried for this purpose lightening remains my first boot choice.
Since lightning is unavailable >4gig my next boot UFD will likely be Corsair GTR. The latter is quad channel, but its dual channel offering is not as awesome as the lexar lightning. step up lexar. I want more of the same in larger capacities! I hope adata [N909] will not be alone in offering eSatap (eSata combo USB) interface flash media.

This is my second Lexar Lightning drive, I originally bought a 1 GB drive. It worked so well that when I wanted more memory I bought the 4 GB drive. It is very fast, and does everything I want it to do. Would buy again. Very dependable.

The Lexar 4 GB Jump Drive is very handy to use full of plenty of space for those of us who carry lots of data. The light is a good addition although the Lexar is so quick you can almost miss it light up when transferring data. The connection, however, is not always good the first try. You may have to reseat it. All in all I am extremely happy with it.

This is one very fast jump drive
I use it all the time at work to transfer large files.....my work buddies are always amazed at the speed. I wish I had the 8gb version, but the price increase was too much One tip: If you don't need the "PowerToGo" software, you can temporarily remove it (copy it to your hard drive). Some computers (like photo kiosks) would not let the "PowerToGo" software run,,,,thus I couldn't access files. So simply remove this softare (format the Lexar) and you'll have a nice clean memory stick. btw if you're worrying about the cap comming off...don't....it seats very well and this stick is very well made

I've tried many a jumpdrive in my day since I work in the computer field. After reviewing many, I decided to try the Lexar 4 GB Lightning and am extremely impressed. The first thing I noticed was how durable it felt and looked. The shiny casing is nice, but when you hold it, you just know it's more durable than most any other jump drive on the market.
This is the fastest jump drive I've ever used. Many jump drives slow way down when transferring small files, except for this one. This one is blazing fast with both small AND large files and/or folders. I don't use the built-in software, choosing instead to use freeware synchronization software. All in all, I highly recommend this jump drive. |
