First the good...

This is a great sounding unit (after you buy some better headphones) that is easy to load. It gets a little weird with the extra folders Mac OSX will add, but overall if you use a pc, you won't see it.

The display will trunicate file names and not give you the id3 tag while browsing, but if you just hit play that's not a problem.

My unit had a little problem with the headphone jack, so I returned it. They fixed it post haste and the new unit is perfect. Their customer support is great.

Back to the sound... I use this mostly for audiobooks. The volume level may need to bumped up if you are in a noisy envionment. I used MP3 Gain and they'll fix it right up.

There are 2 major complaints...

First... you have to buy the "pouch" case. Be careful, tho. This case is the reason my first unit went belly up. The Sony headphones I use have a connector at a 90° angle and the sides of the case "impinged" this jack. I would assume that this harmed the solder joints on the headphone jack. Here's what I did to fix it. Using 2 tie-wraps I was able to fold down the front side of the pouch. I also use the rubber cap under the unit so it will elevate the headphone jack beyond the side of the pouch.

This is the BIG one. This is the reason I gave only 4 stars.

When pausing, the unit will go off after a pre-determined amount of time. This is expected... I understand completely. When I turn the unit back on I have to make my way back to my track and fast forward to the appropriate time. This will stink big time if you are 45 minutes into a 60 minute track (remember... audiobooks). It would be nice if the unit would pick back up at the spot of the pause and continue without any interaction. If this can be changed in a future version, I will ammend my review and give it 5 stars.

I purchased this device and I find the sound quality to be awesome. Its also pretty easy to function, but when you pause it, it shuts off soon after. This makes it annoying because you have to keep hearing the first couple of songs over and over again. You can fast forward to other songs, but who wants to keep doing that time and time again?

What's also annoying is the fact that when you set the songs to repeat, it only repeats the songs in the beginning. So really, you never ever get to listen to the songs after #30. Forget having 300 songs in your 1 gb USB, because you'll never get to them!

Mind you, this is only the minor factor.

The major flaw in this device is their construction of the headphone jack. My first one had just popped in and wouldn't come back out. And the fact that this plastic device is glued together, makes it impossible to fix. I did get a replacement from amazon however. Now the second one that I have now, I'm having trouble listening through my headphones (its not the headphones themselves I've tested them through speakers). The sound gets really jaggedy and I have to press on the headphone jack hard to get it to sound right if I'm lucky.

I'm not even aiming for a replacement anymore, I'm ready to get a different device.

The headphone jack is soldered directly to the circuit board. This causes any force applied to the head phone jack to break off the joints causing the head phones to die one side at a time. A good concept but poor execution. Don't put it in your pocket. Also the front screw has been glued in place to make repair very difficult.
