3.0 out of 5 stars Very useful, but the cap...
I love using this drive due to it's upgradeability, but the cap comes off very easily. I recently lost the cap. If Lexar made a version with stronger plastic and a cap that is more secure, then the card would get five stars.

I just got a jumpdrive trio a few weeks ago. I use it as a memory stick reader to transfer digital images and as a USB drive. Its great that it doesn't require drivers(Win2K/XP). All other memory stick readers I have used were much larger and required installing drivers. If you have a spare memory stick or MMC/SD card laying around, the jumpdrive is a great way to turn it into a USB drive for transferring files. Here are the transfer speeds I got using a 64MB Lexar memory stick.
- Used a 46MB Test File
USB 1.1 Port: 65 sec to write, 55 sec to read
USB 2.0 Port: 45 sec to write, 45 sec to read
From what I understand the memory stick media is likely limiting the speed. Pairing the jumpdrive with fast MMC or SD cards will likely show faster results.
The only concern I have with this device is that the plastic body and hinge feel somewhat fragile.

4.0 out of 5 stars it works, August 13, 2003

I use this device with memory stick from my Sony digital camera. It works as advertised -- no hassels, nothing. I didn't give it 5-star for two reasons:
1) the plastic casing is cheap and fragile
2) the size of the casing make it difficult to plug into some USB ports if there is another port (USB, mouse, keyboard, whatever) near by.

If you're like me, and you have a PDA and/or Digital camera that uses securedigital cards, you can't live without this thing!

HotSyncing music and movies with Palm software can literally take HOURS if you do it with your palm. However, if you build up your MP3 playlist or add a movie to your SD card using this little drive, it goes SO FAST!

With this I am able to bypass my digital camera's software, my palm's software and get out the door faster.

The best use I have had for it so far - downloading something at school on a faster connection than I have home, then carrying it home with me that night. It's much faster (and cheaper) than burning CDs or emailing a file to yourself! It's small size is perfect for my purse, and even though it's light, it's very durable!

5 stars from me!

5.0 out of 5 stars Utility Knife of Memory cards, December 24, 2003

Well almost. Can't use Smart Card or Compact Flash with it. O.K. so the plastic feels flimsy at first, but I've had mine for 9 months now and it goes from bag to pocket and sometimes sitting on it....man I tell ya it's tough! The cap is always coming off in my bag... but no harm and no foul. I like the idea of using my extra camera and MP3 memory for computer files. And, I like the thought of maximizing the memory use (just an excuse to have nearly unlimited camera memory for outings). My notebook has a Secure digital slot so I often don't need the Jumpdrive Trio for the notebook but take the same memory card to the desktop and this thing is a jewel. Bag the camera USB cable! I use my Jumpdrive Trio. Want to share that/those digital photo(s) with a friend and presto Jumpdrive Trio to the rescue. I have had to carry a USB cable when I know I'm going to use it on older desktop PC's with those USB ports that are wedged between the other ports. Granted that is a hassle, but less hassle than pulling the case out to find the USB port though :-O and the cable is easily carried in the/a satchel.

And....What a price!

5.0 out of 5 stars easiest way to make your SD/MMC/MS/DUO becomes thumb drive, December 27, 2005

this little adaptor simply does the job
it accepts ONLY one card at a time, since I have a spare 2GB MS Pro Duo (video for PSP), I can store this card as well as make it thumbdrive
SD/MMC/MS works without problem
MS (Pro) Duo also works without additional adaptor, just insert it carefully along the right side, and you may have hard time to pull it out (only a little bit left exposed)
other variants (MMCmobile, RS-MMC, miniSD, microSD) requires adaptor
it has a drawback of this adaptor, that the USB cap falls off easily, and make sure the card cap closed all the time
this little adaptor is highly recommended for digicam, pda, PSP users
update: this reader can use on 2GB and 4GB SD cards

4.0 out of 5 stars Works with no problem, May 4, 2004

This review is from: Lexar Media JDT-231 Jumpdrive Trio Portable USB Dr (Personal Computers)
I've had it for about 6 months...no problems at all, other than the fact that the cap broke because it's made of cheap plastic (scotch tape is holding it together). It's a bit bulky, and you can't plug in another USB device when it's plugged in, but no reason not to buy it. No regrets.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works for Memory Stick 256 Pro, April 26, 2004

This review is from: Lexar Media JDT-231 Jumpdrive Trio Portable USB Dr (Personal Computers)
Pros: This jumpdrive works fine on "non-pro" memory sticks and my SanDisk memory stick 256MB Pro, too.
Cons: Fragile. Easy-to-lose cap.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Versatile & Handy, October 7, 2006
By

This review is from: Lexar Media JDT-231 Jumpdrive Trio Portable USB Dr (Personal Computers)
I bought this about 3 years back when i had a Sony camera & I used 512 MB Memory stick Pro & Pro Duo cards. Later, I got a Canon SD 700 & now I'm using a 4 GB SD Card. I also have a Motorola Phone with a Micro SD Card. This has always been handy, saved my camera battery, and allowed me to copy files to my devices.

Pros:
1. Accepts all Memory Stick (Regular, Pro, Duo etc)
2. Accepts all SD Cards (Micro, Mini, 4 GB etc)
3. Has not broken with Rough Use of 3 years, although it feels a bit flimsy
4. Fast USB 2.0 Transfers
5. No Drivers required
5. Looks just like a thumb drive & can impress your friends when you show them that this is a memory reader.

Cons:

1. Cap comes off easily. I lost this in a week, but this does not affect the performance or durability in any way
2. This blocks the adjacent USB port, but this can be overcome by using the USB extension cable that is included with this product. Or use a USB hub if you want more than 3 or 4 USB devices connected to your PC at all times...

4.0 out of 5 stars Passes the wash test, October 18, 2004
This review is from: Lexar Media JDT-231 Jumpdrive Trio Portable USB Dr (Personal Computers)
The plastic cover for the USB connector never stayed put and I lost it after the first week. That being said, I've been toting the Jumpdrive Trio around in my pocket and in my backpack for over a year (without the plastic cover) and it hasn't broke yet. It's even been washed once because I forgot to take it out of my pocket. I let it sit in a sunny window for a day and both the drive and my 256 mb Lexar (Sony compatiible) Memory Stick still work to this day.

The Jumpdrive Trio is a little larger than standard USB "thumb" drives with built-in memory, but this has rarely been an issue for me. If your computer is equipped with front USB ports than this is not a problem.

Overall, this is a great product for the price especially if you have other devices (PDA, Digital Camera, etc) that already use SD, MMC, or Memory Stick media.
