Trouble free with Windows,

I bought the Lexar Compact Flash reader based on my esperience with its SmartMedia twin, and I wasn't disappointed. Plugged into machines running Windows ME and W2000 it rapidly set itself up and was ready to go in under a minute. One caution: If you're running Window ME make sure you've got all the latest updates. Early version of Windows ME had a serious bug that caused problems in reading from any USB attached drives or other storage devices.

Keeps crashing my computers,

This card reader worked great on my top o' the line laptop for about two weeks, then starting hanging up my system. I uninstalled and reinstalled, but it keeps happening. Also tried it on my desktop machine, with the same problem. I haven't done anything "funny" with it, so this was really frustrating. Basically, this probably fits into the category of "you get what you pay for"

There's not much to say about this product. It reads compactflash cards just like a laptop PC card adaptor does. It allows me to transfer pictures from my digital camera quicky. Also, it makes it possible to use compactflash cards as small portable harddrives.I've had no problems with the device and cannot understand why anyone would give it a low rating.

Works - But barely,

With my 98SE system I have constant crashes, wants to format the flash card, blue screen, etc. Power off and on, then it works again for a while. Reinstalled a few times, tried closing all other apps, doesn't seem to help. I am using the Canon CF card that came with my Canon G3. The CF card always works perfectly in my G3 no matter how much the reader says the card is bad. At this point, with the purple color and shiny cable, I plan on using it for a lure on the lake.

perfect (and purple),

I bought this for myself a couple years ago because I was tired of having to hook up my camera to the computer, which recquires battery power, and I was tired of using my mother's card-reading photo printer, due to the inconvenience of not having it at my own computer. It worked fine on Windows 2000, and it works fine on Windows XP. I've had absolutely no problems with it, and it does exactly what it's supposed to do. It reads images quickly and operates easily. The USB cable is the perfect length and it conveniently sits anywhere on my desk while i'm uploading images. I suggest this to you if you like to take photos and upload them without hassle. I use Photoshop to open all the photos i need to upload from the folders within the card, then I edit and save from there. You can do this through any program or even just move them from the folders on the card to a folder on your HD if you're not into editing. plus it's purple. who doesn't want that?

For Lexar USB Only?,

I have one of these readers that came with my Lexar 1GB USB CF Card, and it works GREAT with that card. I recently purchased a Sandisk Ultra II 1GB card -- I put this card in the reader and the light just stayed illuminated; nothing was being read. I then read on the Lexar site where it says the JumpShot readers are made "specifically for Lexar CF Cards". That really gripes me. I guess it came with the card, so I shouldn't complain, but for Pete's Sake... this is a simple device... make the thing universal!

I don't know why there are so many negative reviews. This is a review to rebut them and give it two thumbs up.My family and I own FIVE (5) of these readers, one for each member, different households. They all work wonderfully. I have not had any problems with this in windows 2000, XP or mac OS X. I highly recommend this reader, especially for this price. I have had 2 years of ownership and no complaints whatsoever. Fast read times, reliable.

I was a little scared to get this card reader, since some of these reviews for it are bad. But I got it anyway and it works great. I am running windows XP and did not have to install a driver. Pics download extremely fast. I wanted a card reader because I was tired of connecting my camera (canon s230 elph) to the computer.I recommend it, at least for XP.

Whoever put the editorial review up for this product got it wrong. They used the exact words of the review for the "firewire" CompactFlash Media reader.

I'm surprised this caused any computer to crash. It works great for me and seems like a pretty innocent peripheral. Mine plugged and played as advertised and I have had no problems with it. It is a cute purple color and it is see-through too. Basically it works fine, it's really cheap, and at least if you have Windows XP, you can just plug it in to a USB port and it works fine in my experience at least.
