5.0 out of 5 stars The speed difference is visible
Despite the price difference -- UDMA cards are a lot more expensive than regular CompactFlash --, after a lot of research I decided it was worth giving this Lexar card a try. I already own a couple of Lexar 133x CF and SDHC cards and know, from experience, how good the brand is.

This review is from: Lexar Professional Series 4 GB 300x UDMA CompactFlash Memory Card CF4GB-300-381 (Personal Computers)
Despite the price difference -- UDMA cards are a lot more expensive than regular CompactFlash --, after a lot of research I decided it was worth giving this Lexar card a try. I already own a couple of Lexar 133x CF and SDHC cards and know, from experience, how good the brand is.

My particular need in photography are good burst mode and fast transfer rates, and the Lexar UDMA delivers. I've taken maybe 300 photos with it and feel that, overall, it does improve the camera speed in writing images (which affects burst rate). But the more noticeable difference to me so far is how fast the images are downloaded into the computer. With an UDMA card reader (in my case, the ATP AF-CRMBK-MV1 Multislot PROMAX USB2.0 UDMA Card Reader -Retail (Black), which has proven to be a fantastic investment -- read review in the product's page if you are interested) I download hundreds of hi-res images in less than a third of the time it takes me to do the same operation with a regular card + reader.

I still have to use this card more and observe its performance better -- the problem being that when you're chasing a bird you're not really focusing on the memory card! --, but so far I can say that it is a lot faster than non-UDMA memory cards. If you're looking at buying one of these, make sure beforehand that your camera and card reader are compatible with UDMA, that is, that they really will benefit from its advantages. Otherwise it'll just work like a normal CompactFlash card, but with a higher price tag.

This is a fantastic CompactFlash card, but be sure to order the Firewire 800 card reader. The card allows the camera to record very quickly, but getting large files off the card is much easier with a Firewire reader. Works flawlessly with a Mac.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lexar CF Cards, July 19, 2010

I've used Lexar CF cards for 10 years, and they've functioned flawlessly. They're tough, durable, easy to use and the value (storage space) for the dollar is incredible. Ten years ago I paid almost $200 for a 1GB card. Now I'm getting 4 times the space for 25% of the cost. . . bgs.

I have used Lexar memory cards since 1990, never a problem with any of them. These new 300x speed cards never slow me down when shooting sports. They just work great.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must have for NIKON D700!, December 18, 2009
This review is from: Lexar Professional Series 4 GB 300x UDMA CompactFlash Memory Card CF4GB-300-381 (Personal Computers)
I purchased this Lexar professional UDMA 300x and the 233x for my Nikon D700 prior to purchasing the camera since it went on sale. After reading the owner's manual, this is one of the recommended CF cards (300x) for my camera. After formatting the memory card, it worked flawlessly when I tested it at 5fps and was able to keep up with the number of consecutive shots that I took using the highest settings: RAW + FINE, L. It took approximately 4 seconds after the 5th shot before the green CF busy indicating light extinguished on my camera. My 15 in 1 memory card reader (generic brand) was able to read and transfer files from the CF card. This was my first time to use CF cards since I use to have the Nikon D80 which is why I was worried since I thought I needed a special card reader for CF UDMA cards. The minimum card speed recommended was 133x from the owner's manual, and my other 233x CF card worked just as well. I know Lexar Professional came up with a much faster CF card (600x). You might want to consider getting that at a higher price if you want to optimize the 8 fps capability of your camera using an external battery grip. You probably know this if you already have it for your D300 or D300s. Overall, I am very happy with this memory card. I only shoot .jpg files on most occasions; therefore, I do not need the 8GB or 16GB. This card fills my needs. Happy shooting and enjoy your Nikons!

I purchased this card a few weeks ago. I'm amazed by it's performance. I use it on my Nikon d2x ad i works perfectly. Knowing that in the near future I will uy the new d3, I bought this card with the nre UDMA technology. I haven't seen yet it's performance regarding to it's speed, but I cant tell that as for now it's faster than the previous cards I bought. Lexar is very reliable. I have other lexar cards bought a few uears ago, and never had a problem with them. As soon as I use it on the new nikon d3, Ill update this review.

Not only does this CF card hold as many Raw Photos as I want, but I can also use it as a regular flash drive.

The card does not meet the advertised 45MB/s write speed. I am only getting 23MB/s read and 20MB/s sequential write. Purchased with a CF to IDE adapter intending to use as a solid state drive in a laptop, however due to technical reasons this brand is not suitable as a boot drive unless you modify the Windows driver. Lexar tech support was not very helpful, stated they do not support use as a fixed drive in a computer.

Pricey! I guess it would be decent for use in a camera, but my tests show there are better/faster 300x cards out there for less money.
