Excellent speed if used with a UDMA-capable card reader,

This review is from: Lexar Professional Series 8 GB 300x UDMA CompactFlash Memory Card CF8GB-300-381 (Personal Computers)
I bought the Lexar 8 GB UDMA card to use in a Canon 5D Mark II, which writes very large (20MB) files when you shoot in RAW mode (which I do). The place where I see an advantage is in downloading these large files to my computer.
Mated to a UDMA card reader, the card transfers about 72 files a minute or a bit better than one per second. My old SanDisk Extreme III card in a non-UDMA-enabled reader takes about 3-4 times longer. And of course if you have a camera that writes large files, 8GB gives you some headroom when you're out taking large number of photos -- it can take about 240 RAW images on my camera. There's also an advantage to a high speed card like this if you shoot continuously with this type of camera, since files will be written more quickly with a fast card. If you have a UDMA-enabled camera and shoot often in continuous mode, this may be a worthwhile purchase for you. If you have a need for lots of capacity with any camera and you have or buy a UDMA-enabled card reader, this card will speed up file transfer very significantly. In my experience Lexar makes very reliable cards that do not have compatibility issues with major brands of digital SLRs.

Here's my story --
At the end of a shoot it began to pour down raining, so I ran to my car and drove home. When I got home, I realized I lost my Lexar 8GB card and the only place it could be was somewhere in the park where the shoot was held. The next morning I went to the park to look for it. Fortunately, I was able to find it in the parking lot. It had been raining pretty hard all night and I was afraid that the water had damaged the card and I would have lost over 400 photos. Needless to say that the card was unharmed and I'm still using the Lexar as my primary card today. From now on, the only cards I buy will be Lexar Professional.

This card is so fast and so well suited to the Sony Alpha 700, that I set the camera to shoot JPEGs at high speed and use it to make movies!
If you buy from Amazon affiliate Adorama (B&H too) in 2008 and by a certain date, there is an $[...] rebate on this card. Being a "pro" card simply means it is fast and more durable. If you never ever shoot sports or animals, get the 8GB 133x CF on sale or if they have a rebate on that, and save some money.

The Lexar Professional 300x UDMA Compact Flash card is one of the cards listed in the D700 manual as an approved card. I tend to stick with the approved cards and my choice is an 8GB card. I've also tested continuous shooting speeds on the D700 and this card performs as expected. I typically choose either SanDisk or Lexar but since the Lexar cards from Amazon are actually sold by Amazon, I decided to go with the Lexar. You really can't go wrong with either brand.

Excellent buy. I am using it on a Nikon D300 & D700. This is a high speed card which enables me to take advantage of all the cameras' features.
It is very fast and so far very reliable. Large capacity.

Great card with one major complaint - one of them randomly corrupted and stopped working for me. I format my cards in camera before use. I tried everything and eventually sent it to Lexar for lifetime warranty replacement, which they fulfilled pretty promptly.
As a wedding photographer losing a card simply isn't an option, though I shoot with a D3 in backup mode in case it does happen. It is however my understanding, based on all that I read and have talked with other pros, that Sandisk and Lexar are pretty much the top of the line. So I hope my experience was a one-time aberration. The other 3 Lexar Pro cards I own have all performed flawlessly.

Not much to say.. this card works as advertised, works at full speed in my Sony A700 that supports UDMA and off-loads very fast from the Lexar Firewire reader. I can copy 8Gig of images over FW400 in under 5 minutes!!!

This card is overkill for me, since the speed of my memory cards is meaningless for the way I shoot. I've never come close to filling the buffer on my Nikon D700, and I'm never in that much of a hurry to transfer files; I just plug the computer into the camera and do something else while the pictures download. But I care a lot about the build quality and reliability of my cards. Even if, as I suspect, all Chinese-made cards are manufactured in the same factory, buying name brand cards should provide fewer problems. So I've only used mid-range Lexar and SanDisk memory cards, which I feel are a good balance of affordability and reliability. I've never experienced problems with cards from either brand in my D50, D1X, D700 or Canon G10. I purchased the Lexar 300x only because a rebate made it less expensive than their 8GB mid-range card. As expected, I've had no problems with the card. Since I don't fire large bursts of shots or own a UDMA card reader, the 300x card doesn't seem any faster than my SanDisk Extreme III or Lexar 133x cards. Still, it's good to have a high-end card just in case its added performance is needed in the future.

I picked up 8Gb of the Lexar Professional to go with my new Canon 7D and I have been impressed with the transfer rate compared to my older memory. I plan on purchasing more in the near future.

I use the CompactFlash for my Nikon D2xs - it is fast. The access light on the camera blinks once and the image is transferred to CF memory. This helps when you are shooting in continuous mode. Although the camera buffer still fills up faster than writing to CF memory, a little pause in shooting will empty out the buffer.
