i have been useing a usb cf card reader for years. now i have upgraded to the lexar firewire reader writer and it has to be at least 4 times faster than the old reader, i am shooting in raw format with a canon 5D so the files are really large. so now to have them download so fast is a real blessing. DAVID!

I've been using one of these for three years, and it works very well. Cards insert cleanly, fit snugly, and the data moves quickly. No drivers are needed in Mac OSX. There is no cable integrated into the unit, which is convenient for me, as I have a 'utility' firewire cable that I use for devices like this that need to be plugged in only occasionally.

What's not to like?
1. the hinged door pops off much too easily, exposing the innards to dust. I have to reattach the door half the time I use the reader.
2. it generates heat when plugged in, even when not in use, enough heat that I fear for the longevity of the device. I therefore unplug it whenever I'm not using it.
3. Firewire 400 only, which makes this a trailing-edge device today. I am considering replacing mine with a similar Firewire 800 CF reader.

It used to take me 20-25 minutes to download my CF card each time. Now, with the Lexar firewire reader, it only takes about 3-4. Great time saver. Works very well. Recommend highly.

I had originally purchased a Belkin device from the Apple Store but it would crash when I tried to download 2GB cards of RAW images, so I returned it and purchased this instead. This card reader lets me download even a full 8GB card very quickly. After maybe 8-10 months of heavy use a card stuck in it and I had to pry it out. I sent it back to Lexar and they replaced it quickly and the new one has worked well for about a year or so now. It's much faster than other card readers I've tried. I even suggested it to a photographer I assist and that one has worked well too.

The defect in the first one was certainly big downside, but Lexar's replacement policy kept me a loyal customer.

I use it on a three-year-old iMac, a one-year-old Mac Book Pro and have used it on a couple of PCs as well. Just plug & play. It came with a firewire 400 cable and I use that on the iMac. I also use it with a firewire 400 to 800 cable on the MacBook Pro. Not sure if it came with that cable or not, so check that it has the cables that you need as this version only has a firewire 400 port (two of them actually so you can stack them).

Perfect for fast transfer to Mac. Use it almost everyday. Thousands of transfers and it works just like new.

After placing the order, it was delivered fast. No problems installing it. It works well.
