Not recommended for 1080P full HD video recording. Every time I tried recording video with my Canon T2i it would record anywhere from 2-25 seconds and then you would see a buffering bar on the side of the screen and receive and error that the camera has automatically stopped recording. Now through hours of research and talking to Canon the only 2 possibilities that it could be is that the sd card can't write the video to the card fast enough or the camera sensor is overheating. With Canon would ruled out the sensor overheating and they helped me download some software to test the speed of the Lexar sd card. It was reading at about 15 MB/sec and I don't remember the specs of the write speed but the canon guy said it was below what a class 10 sd card should be. I remember the read speed because on the box of this product it says minimum read speed of 20 MB/sec. This is 75% of the performance I should be getting at a minimum level. I was left to deal with Lexar.
Well I called Lexar and as soon as I told the guy on the phone the issue, the guy/kid on the phone acted like my error was the most unbelievable error he had ever encountered. Immediately Lexar pushed me to try and get Amazon to take care of me. They told me that my case was being escalated to a T2 tech and that I would be receiving an email with all the details soon. I asked well "are you transferring me or giving me a number or something?" He told me everything I need would be in the email. He was trying as fast as he could to get me off the phone and informed me that I may need to just return the item to Amazon.Read more ›
Using Disk Bench 126.96.36.199 I tested coping a folder, create a file and read a file. I tested a mechanical drive (Hitachi 5400 RPM), solid state drive (Intel 320) and the Lexar SD Card. This is not an exhaustive test nor did I do multiple tests. Note also I am using a builtin SD Card reader from 2008.
Mechanical 248.94 Mb/s
SSD 499.595 Mb/s
Lexar 6.171 Mb/s
Mechanical 114.833 Mb/s
SSD 197.02 Mb/s
Lexar 5.177 Mb/s
Mechanical 757.396 Mb/s
SSD 1030.872 Mb/s
Lexar 1144.56 Mb/s
As you can see the Lexar is not super fast on writes. It does spank the mechanical and SSD drives on reads. It is plenty fast enough to hold my music, photos, documents and project files. When working I do not notice a speed difference as I work with small files and playing music. Writing larger files would probably be noticed. A SDXC card reader and USB 3 port would also probably improve writes.
Updated to fix MB, megabytes, to be Mb, megabits.
Pros: Fast to access, tons of space, purchased new from an Amzon Market seller for around $80. Should have bought two.
I needed something to give me more space on an Acer Iconia W500 Windows 7 Tablet/Slate. It only has a 32GB SSD mini-sata hard drive which costs a bundle to upgrade to 64GB. The cost of a 64GB mini SSD was twice that of a 64GB SD card. The choice was obvious when I found one for a little over $80, which also made it the least inexpensive 64GB SD card on Amazon (or anywhere on the Interne) at the time. With it being an SDXC, the speeds are amazingly fast and has no appearant lag in response in my slate. I install all of my programs to the SD card instead of on the native 32GB SSD. This is a must-have for any device that can take advantage of the SDXC format, because there is a huge and noticable speed difference as this thing is faster than my old 4GB High Speed SD card and tons faster than my 16GB high speed SD card.
