Economy WiFi Printer reconsidered,
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Lexmark Z2420 13L0700 Wireless Single Function Printer (Office Product)
Update: March 28, 2011. The WiFi no longer works. I have not yet plugged this directly into my computer, but I am very disappointed at the WiFi failure. Granted, it did work for over 2 years, but the work load I put on my printer is very light.
I have been using this printer for some time now, and I am more appreciative of its qualities. I made some adjustments on the software end and now get better print quality. Lexmark also makes large ink cartridges and these last a very long time. I just built a new computer for another room in the house and the connection to this printer was extremely simple. Very nice for a bargain price. Original Review I bought this printer for its WiFi capability, and that works fine. It frees up space at my desk. It was easy to set up and install. This is an economy-priced printer and the color printing is, frankly, inferior to the economy HP inkjet printer I have been using. This printer does have 6-color capability and I have not yet tried that--it requires a different ink cartridge. I suspect I will switch to that when this cartridge runs dry. So this is fine for low-cost wireless printing, but don't expect great color.

Good for small wireless print jobs,

I got this printer to print small jobs from my laptop while I'm in my living room, and it's perfect for that. Wireless set up wasn't exactly easy, but it worked out. I use this for one or two page print outs, not for photos or high quality prints. It's perfect for what I needed it for, and inexpensive. I wouldn't recommend it as your only printer, just as a supplement for convenience.

* Cheap (Got it at over 50% off retail price)
* Very easy to set up * Comes with everything needed to start printing right away (inks included) * Quite compact and light, look cute! * Works great over WiFi, I connected it to 4 computers in the house * Works with home wireless network and over VPN * Prints clean documents with minimal graphics * Not good for photograph * Five stars for design, ease of use, functions and quality at its price...

Dictator printer forces replacement of ink before printing again,
This review is from: Lexmark Z2420 13L0700 Wireless Single Function Printer (Office Product)
Having used a Lexmark for years with great success (I print numerous times a day) I was thrilled when this came free with my daughter's new computer. I had earlier decided Lexmark was superior to HP, Epson and other off brand printers that we had used over the years and that from now on I would only be buying Lexmark. But this Dicator printer was nothing like my old friend Lexmark Z1515. Well, I could get over the missing the comforting familiar voice that assured me the Printing (had) Started and that Printing (was) Complete. But this voiceless printer not only lacks the verbal assurances that all was well but gives no warning when paper jammed or anything else is amiss. I have to stand there and watch it to make sure no problems ensue. But the main problem is that it wants to tell me exactly when (and where) to buy ink and to change the ink. No longer can I run the ink cartridge out on frivious projects but must change it when the printer demands. This autocratic dictatorial machine wants me to serve it rather than it serving me. Since the printer company has a conflict of interest, I am uncertain as to how much ink I am being cheated out of by this action. Usually, I can easily print a phamplet in one color and go over it in another if I am low on ink in one or the other cartridge. But NO, this printer will not allow that, no longer can I exhaust the colors one by one to get the maximum value for my money. And, while the rip off ink racket is enough to sway me away from this company forever, this All Knowing Printer also sent me a creepy message that said in summary- Lexmark is now downloading information from your computer with your permission. Now I never gave them permission knowingly although I know that everyhing online is open to all and there is no privacy, what does a printer company need to download from my computer? By the way, I do a lot of printing from a computer that never goes online, so you don't get anything out of that one... or CAN you? Anyway this printer is being retired, I am not even going to try to resell it. I am not sure I am even going to give it charity as I do not know what information it has downloaded and whose hands it is going to fall into...

Poor paper handling,
By David H. (Fairbanks, AK) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Lexmark Z2420 13L0700 Wireless Single Function Printer (Office Product)
This is a low-end printer bought specifically for printing from my wireless laptop. Setup was easy, I don't have any issues with the wireless not working, and I have no intention of printing high-quality photos or documents with it. You would think that pretty much sums up what I was looking for, right? Wrong. Wireless printing does me no good at all if I have to manually hold the paper for every single sheet that feeds into this poor quality machine. The paper guide is useless as it stops about an inch above the printer. This causes every sheet to jam when it is pulled (from only one side) by the printer. The only way I can get things to print is to hold the paper upright so that it can't slip to the right side as it feeds through. I will not be buying another Lexmark printer.

Wireless is nice,
This review is from: Lexmark Z2420 13L0700 Wireless Single Function Printer (Office Product)
Got this printer as a birth gift from my mom. The set could have been easier and quicker not for me but thinking that someone that is not a tech geek would get a little frustrated after about 5 minutes.
The wireless does work great just as long the printer is no more then 20 ft. from your computer (if setup that way), or from your router, plus it will work with WPA2.

Don't Buy It,
This review is from: Lexmark Z2420 13L0700 Wireless Single Function Printer (Office Product)
I bought this inexpensive and wireless printer. I didn't know then that this printer leads to Lexmark holding control over your wallet! The black ink cartridge is at least $30, and my last one lasted less than 2 weeks. The color cartridge isn't any better. There is a chip in the cartridges and a circuit board that monitor how much ink is being used. You can not refill the cartridge yourself. We all know that ink does not cost that much money.
They sell this printer cheaply because they know how much money they will be making in ink cartridges. I've also had to call them about 6 times in 6 months for weird ideosyncratic issues. It seems impossible to cancel a print job, for example, unless you turn the computer off completely. I could not cancel through the software or the control panel. Then at one point it was stuck in "print in black and white" and I could NOT get it to print color until I called Lexmark and they took over my computer and did something. Their tech support is very friendly, but I would rather have a printer that works and that lets me refill the ink. Printer companies are holding us prisoners of their greed. Just make a machine, sell it, and then leave the owner alone!

Problems communicating with computer.,
By
This review is from: Lexmark Z2420 13L0700 Wireless Single Function Printer (Office Product)
My experience with this printer has been frustrating. It picks up signals from my computer 1/10 times. I've found that it usually picks up the signal if I uninstall then reinstall the printer. But after printing about 3-4 times, it's unable to catch the signal again, and needs me to uninstall/reinstall the program. The signal is weak even when the computer is placed next to the printer.
I thought it may have been a weak internet connection, but after directly connecting my computer and the printer with a coord, I found that there has been little difference. This printer would print half way, stop for 5 minutes, and then continue printing again. Sometimes, it would print halfway, then a screen would pop up saying the printer has trouble communicating with the computer. I thought purchasing this printer would make life easier with less coords, but I was wrong. As I'm typing this, it's taken 10 minutes for my printer to print a two page paper (on "quick print" mode) without any interruptions.

The wireless never works,

This review is from: Lexmark Z2420 13L0700 Wireless Single Function Printer (Office Product)
I bought one of these from Amazon and the wireless adapter was broken and had to return it. Amazon quickly sent me a replacement and the wireless partially works - it only works with unsecured networks. It cannot connect to secured networks.
Don't waste your time with this printer - I still have to manually connect to it via USB. |
