4.0 out of 5 stars Webtv printer by Lexmark.
I bought this for my Webtv system as it is the only Lexmark printer compatible for such. I have used Lexmarks in other businesses and I am very familiar with the reliability of this product. I highly recommend this printer for anyone with a Webtv system.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Printer!!!, May 2, 2001

Awesome printer! I purchased this printer after going through TWO costly HP printers. One of them(new) crashed while printing out a thesis that was due that day, I picked up this printer because it was cheap and I had to get the printing done immediately. I was ASTOUNDED at the great quality of both this product and its printing. It will print circles around all of the HP printers and all other brands I have tried. If you need an indefatiguible, faithful printer, THIS IS IT! Like craftsman tools from sears it is built well and preforms.

I own Lexmark Z-11 almost 1 year. If you use for printing text. This one is the good printer at low price. However, there are some problem when print color picture and a little bit high price ink(compare with printer price).

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Value for a Little Printer at a Budget Price!!!, September 21, 2002

I'm a University student, and I do alot of term papers. With so many papers to print during the school year, investing on a durable and well performing at a budget price is certainly what I look for. The Lexmark Z12 fits that criteria. One important consideration when investing on a printer is the price for a replacement ink cartridge. The ink cartridges for the Z12 are much cheaper on the average. The Lexmark z12 may not be as fast as some of the other more expensive printers out there, but its durability, quality and performance sure makes up for it. I highly recommend this printer for students and home use.

5.0 out of 5 stars 1200 x 1200 resolution is perfect!, May 5, 2002

I thought that paying for a less expensive lexmark would not allow me to print photos anymore. WRONG ! The Z12 turned out to be just a bit better than my epson, the epson kept quitting and I decided to try Lexmark. Good choice, all my photos are sharp and never jams like my pld printer liked top do in the middle of a print job.

So there, not too expensive and fast 7 ppm inlaser sharp black and white!

I recommend this one for all of us in a budget that look for quality!

I HAD THE HP-420C, UPGRADED TO THIS LEXMARK, AND IT REALLY AMAZED ME, IN THE SPEED AND QUALITY OF PRINTING TEXT AND PHOTO'S. YES, THE INK IS A LITTLE MORE COSTLY, BUT WITH ITS EASE OF USE, ITS WELL WORTH IT. IM VERY SATISFIED WITH THIS PRINTER.

I bought my Lexmark Z12 printer approximately 7 months ago from my local Wal-Mart superstore for ... This printer was purchased to replace a Hewlett Packard printer that I had all throughout college (4+ year). I went against my better judgement and tried another brand-thinking it would be comparable. As it turns out the Lexmark was not in the same class with my former HP printer. I found this printer to be slow and overall costly. I am now in graduate school and after completing 2 major print jobs (2 papers and a couple of homework assignment consisting of 3 pages each), I am replacing the printing cartridge monthly. I have replaced this printers worth by 10 times since I purchased it. It is a money eating monster. Now after less than a year-it is dead. I am now in the market for another printer again. Needless to say, Lexmarks are not even an option. After I put this one to rest-I'll never purchase another one. This has been a horrible experience. I would not suggest this printer to my worst enemy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Home Printer, January 29, 2002

This is a good printer for the user who uses it for word processing and web printing. Kind of slow using color ink(parallel connection). Easy to install using Windows 95b. Installation took about two minutes. Most printer you can get for the money. Recommened to any home computer users who don't need a photo printer.

1.0 out of 5 stars You get what you pay for: Bad design, no cartridges, February 16, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Lexmark Z12 Inkjet Printer (Office Product)
The Lexmark Z12 is a joke! First of all, they fail to include the most basic accessories: there are no cables and no cartridges (The machine cost me ...; the two cartridges and USB cables totalled ...). What's more, there are no thrid-party cartridges for Lexmark printers, so you're stuck paying them ... to ... every few months for as long as you own the machine.

The windows drivers were buggy; and no linux drivers were on the disk; nor could I find them on Lexmark's website. Fortunately the generic Linux printer driver does allow some very basic printing w/ the machine.

The manual does not specify which type of USB cable is needed; (and they use the less common type B that you're likely to have to buy instead of have lying around.) Even alone on the USB line, though, this printer is *extremely* slow (even for an inkjet). They claim 6 black-text pages per minute; I've never gotten better than 4 out of it...

Don't even think about real color printing. Since there is only one cartridge space and the color cartridge has no black you are always left with either purple-tinted prints or color and black that don't line up properly. Sometimes this level of quality is acceptable; but I still have to go to Kinko's to print anything good in color. Even for drafts, it's still annoying as hell to have to manually re-feed all of the color pages.

So; if you want to spend an extra ... in set-up costs for a machine that prints slowly, badly, and inconviently: buy the Z12; otherwise get another machine and shun this lemon.

4.0 out of 5 stars Lexmark Z12: Great Little Inkjet Printer, March 15, 2009

A year or so ago, I got this as a used free printer from someone who had problems with it and who got a newer printer. This printer was just sitting in their garage. Still looked good. It turns out that this Lexmark Z12 needed a new ink cartridge and it had the ink cartridge stuck on the side since it wasn't used for a long time. I had to press the grey button on the top several times and tilted the printer to the side (and I think I gave it a wack on the side) to get the cartridge to clear out of its resting place. I figure that just have to keep it level and use it. Anyways, a quick note about the ink: Have to look for Lexmark ink 50 or 55 (black), 60 or 65 (color), or 71 (black). Maybe 70 will work also. I found out about 71 when I was looking for ink at Kmart. I was looking at the side of the box which listed various Lexmark printers including the Z11. I forgot that I had a Z12 and thought I had a Z11. Anyways, the picture on the box looked like the ink cartridge that I had in my Z12. And it turns out that the #71 ink does work in the Z12. Now, isn't that something nice - because I didn't want to go back to the store to return the ink cartridge. Anyways, the Lexmark Z12 inkjet printer is a nice working little printer. I use this as a "travel" portable printer that I tote around on one of those two-wheeled foldable carrier-cart thingies that you normally use for toting around a suitcase. I just use the black ink. If you want to print in color, then you have to take out the black ink cartridge and put in a color ink cartridge (the color ink cartridge will also print in black). I'd rather just use the black ink and not have to spend extra for the color on this printer since I can use my other desk-bound "non-travel" printers (Epson and HP) for doing anything more fancy requiring color. What's also good is that you can get the ink cartridges here on Amazon if you can wait for the new ink to be delivered.
