4.0 out of 5 stars A good cheap printer
Granted, this printer does not compete with high-end expensive printers, but my experience tells me it does not deserve the negative feedback of previous reviews.

1.0 out of 5 stars this printer is junk
I bought the Lexmark X2250 printer for an extra $50 with a computer system purchase. I did not expect a great printer at that price, but this item is junk. It is not worth even $50. This was my first Lexmark printer and it will be my last. No matter how tempting the offer, do not waste money on this product.

2.0 out of 5 stars crappy product, January 4, 2005
This review is from: Lexmark X2250 All-in-One (21T0000) (Office Product)
This is one of those devices that have scanner, printer and copier combined. Unfortunately, none of them is particularly bad.

First the printer:

* anything beyond basic quality is too slow. Takes about 3 minutes to print a 4 x 6 photo at best quality

* photo quality is very bad. If you want to do any digital photography. this product is not for you.

* ink does not last long if you use it at best quality. I typically exahust my color cartridge every time I use it to print photos (in about 25 4x6 photos)

* very noisy

* bad paper tray. they always become slightly diagnol leading to bad printing.

* no auto duplex printing

scanner

* i still have not been able to configure it to scan it in right orientation. Regardless of how I keep my paper or what settings I use. The document is always slightly diagnol.

* scanning quality is nothing to speak of

copier

* color copying has same issues as that of color printing

* has the same issues as copying

The only reason I did not give it 1 star is because it came for $20 extra with my computer purchase and for that price is good for quick lowest quality use-and-throw black and white basic printing (mapquest, reciepes etc).

Your mileage may vary but I will not recommend it.

2.0 out of 5 stars It seems to be a good product, but..., January 21, 2005

As a printer, this product is useful if you don't care about printing quality or if you have enough time to wait for a well printed page. The printing feature is fast if you decide to use draft quality, which by the way, is the worst quality you could imagine (in this mode some words look like in bold format, vertical lines don't look straight, etc.). If you want better results you have to go beyond draft and here is where the nightmare begins: the printer becomes really slow and quality doesn't improve a lot. All of this is just in black printing... the experience with color printing is worst.

As a scanner the experience is not so bad. However, I've had better results with other products (like HP or Epson).

Paper tray doesn't give a good platform to have all the pages aligned, which eventually results in bad printing.

The pros?... Well, the equipment (and its software) are very easy to operate (I have Windows XP) and you're not going to find a lot of complex buttons. When you don't need more than the copying feature, it's not necessary to have the computer on.

Since I have Lexmark at my office (departmental laser printers) and they are terrific, I supposed that buying this "All-in-One" for home purposes it was going to be a great purchase, but instead it was a big mistake.

In conclusion, Do I recommend this product?: NO... Look for a better one.

This printer is really slow and it consumes way too much ink and plus the ink is very expensive. The scans and copies are below average and its basicly a waist of money. oh and its noisy to. The only thing i like about it is it tells you on the screen when the printing starts, finishes, the ink is low etc.

Granted, this printer does not compete with high-end expensive printers, but my experience tells me it does not deserve the negative feedback of previous reviews.

This is a cheap, bottom of the line printer, which performs to spec - I got what I was told I'll get for the low price I paid.

Specifically, it is not especially noisey, B&W cartridges by LexMark printed nearly the same number of pages advertised in LexMark's site w/ warning before the ink was to run out, printed in the advertised speed.

So, yes - this is neither fast nor excellent quality, but that's what one is to expect from a printer-scanner that costs a few dozen dollars.

As for the reports of text not printed straight or scans being untrue to the scanned images being diagonal - as I had no such problems, I can only guess that possibly some users did not go through the lengthy installation process which calibrates the device.

In summary - you get a device that performs well to the low specs that come with the low price tag.

__________ Additional comments after further use _________

As expected from low end printer, the price of ink is relatively high - the price of the printer with two half volume ink cartridges is about the same as the price of four original half volume ink cartridges.

A minor problem with the drivers & printer software is that it would only install on drive C - which is a problem for people who are short on space on that drive.

Another minor problem is with CPU percent used during printing - on a 2.4GHz CPU & 512MB of RAM, the printer often uses 40% of the CPU, which might be a problem when running a CPU intensive task while printing.

2.0 out of 5 stars Its the ink that irks me, January 12, 2008

I did not spend a lot of money for it, which makes it worthy of a star. However, I am still dissatisfied with my choice.

I do not have much issue with the scanner. It does a credible job, and for that I gave it a star.

I gave the copier a half-star, as the copier does a pretty good job of duplicating what it is looking at.. unless it is of high color quality.

I took a half-star away because of the color quality dropoff. The greens do not come out as a true green, more like a dark green with green tint. The blues are ok, but the reds are atrocious. If you like the color red, get used to pink. PDF's look horrific and the color match of what I see on the monitor is so far off what I get, its like I'm looking at 2 different items.

My major beef is with the ink cartridges, and how they need constant cleaning (manually, not by the software). I have to remove the color cartridge and clean it with a wet towel, just to get more than black and whatever color ink happens to spurt out at any given moment. Throw that along with the fact that they either dry up really quick, or get so clogged, that cleaning them is of no help. They are expensive to replace. I know Lexmark needs to make up the low cost somewhere, but why all of it at my expense? I do not recommend this.
