1.0 out of 5 stars Be Warned - The Loudest Printer Ever, October 4, 2006
This review is from: Lexmark 26H0400 T430 Laser Printer 32PPM 1200DPI Lgl Par/usb 2.0 32MB 366MHZ (Office Product)
I just bought this printer and am sending it back. I am writing this review as a public service to others.

This printer is unbelievably loud - the loudest printer I have ever heard. It is touted as having a small footprint and I bought it to sit beside my desk. I am used to discreetly printing things in the background while on the phone. Not with this baby - it makes such a racket that callers comment on it. Additionally, if someone calls while you are printing a big job, you have to say something like, "gee I'll call you back when my printing job is finished." Even without the phone call situation, the printer's sound is annoying and basically keeps you from concentrating on anything else until the print job is finished.

The other annoying thing about this printer is trying to use the manual tray for envelopes and for printing on different kind of paper than you have stacked in the print tray. On all the prior printers I have owned, you could set the printer settings to automatically detect if you were trying to handfeed something from the manual tray (i.e., the printer would sense that something was in the manual tray and would print from that tray). Not on this baby. Instead, you have to open the print dialog box for each and every job and then open a second dialog box and then change the settings to indicate that you want to print from the manual tray. Very annoying if you often print on different kinds of paper or if you often print envelopes. Let's say you are printing a letter to go out on bond paper. If you only keep non-bond paper in your printer drawer, you either have to open the drawer and stick a piece of bond paper in the drawer before printing, or open up two print dialog boxes and change the settings to tell the printer to print from the manual tray. After you are done printing your nice bond paper document and if the next document you want to print doesn't have to be on bond and can print from the print tray, you have to go back into the print dialog box and change the settings. What were they thinking?

Also, if you want to print an envelope, not only do you have to go into printer settings and configure to print an envelope from the manual tray, but you also have to get up from your chair and push the "Go" buttom to print the envelope. To top it all off, the printer makes a big screeching sound waiting for the Go buttom to be pushed and another screeching sound when you push the button.

The worst printer ever. I should have stuck with HP.
