As for the ink cartridges in general, there's not a lot to say - they are ink cartridges and they work just fine when they are not defective.

That said I, like several others here, received a defective black ink cartridge. I figured out the problem - the black ones don't have the little plastic tray on them that they are supposed to have, inside the foil packaging. That led me to the obvious reality that some were improperly packed from the manufacturer, and the lack of the plastic tray on the cartridge allowed some to be punctured at some point.

I know this because I did notice a little puncture mark on the foil package of the black cartridge. I opened it carefully to find that ink had leaked out within the foil packaging. If the plastic tray had been there it would mostly likely not have happened.

Amazon is the best and they replaced my order immediately. I received another set that was just fine, but I think that was a stroke of luck for me because the black cartridge in the new set didn't have the plastic tray either. So, I can only figure that it's a hit & miss deal until they no longer have the ones that were improperly packaged by the manufacturer.

The Lexmark high yield DO have more ink and last longer! The thing is, don't trust the messages that pop up from Lexmark telling you it is low!! I have had messages popping up now for over a month! The ink is still great, not even light in color yet! So - the XL will last , do not throw it out until you see a decline in ink.

Just so you know, if this product is indeed a red box, it does NOT contain the high-yield version cartidges. The double pack that contains the XL black and XL color high-yield cartridges is silver and black, not red and black like the picture shown here. The red pack contains the standard sized cartridges.

EDIT: The seller has now changed the picture so that it matches the correct product. I highly recommend the "XL" cartridges at least 4 stars.

When I opened the foil pack to remove the black cartridge, ink was everywhere and I managed to get it all over my hands. Fortunately it washed off with soap and water. Mind you, these cartridges are absurdly expensive :-). When I complained on line, I immediately received a return authorization and a label to return the "mess". Any company can have problems, but the good companies take care of them. Thank you, Jim Frame

Ordered two 2-packs with black ink and color cartridges. When we opened the first black ink cartridge, black ink went everywhere. The ink had leaked into the wrapper space and spilled out when it was opened. It was a mess. We opened the second black ink cartridge and the same thing happened. I notice I'm not the only one to say this in a review.

I wouldn't buy from this vendor again as my computer said from the printer that the cartridge wasn't a legal cartridge. We returned it. It would not work. We just kept getting thee message. We have had no problems with these cartridges from a different Amazon vendor.

BEWARE! I bought this expecting it to be as advertised. It was not! The color cartridge came separate and was NOT the XL version, but instead it was the regular version. Not what I was attempting to buy. Since I needed ink desperately I used it since returning it would just cost me more in the long run. No, I wouldn't buy my ink here again!

When I got this cartridge set from Amazon and opened the black ink to replace the empty one in my printer, the new one had exploded all over the interior of the packaging. It was quite a mess and I lost a lot of ink without even putting the thing in the printer. Needless to say I returned it for a replacement. What do you know, the replacement did the SAME THING, but to a lesser extent. I said, "to hell with it." and just decided to keep this one. I had already lost a lot of time in returning the other one and i needed the ink reguardless. My opinion: Don't purchase this cartridge combo unless you don't mind losing some ink during shipping.

As soon as I opened the package. Black ink went everywhere. I cannot contact the seller since there is no button for it, but I paid 50 some dollars for half the ink, since I needed to clean black from everywhere

Garbage! Why I forgot to return? When I opened the box, the color ink spilled a little but I still installed it. And now it claimed no ink. Have I printed more than 5 color pages? Now the black one also shows it will soon run out. How long have those packages been kept in the warehouse?
