5.0 out of 5 stars A fine printer - that does print Envelopes on a Mac!
I had a Lexmark E232 for 6 or so years and it was a great, reliable printer for my modest home office needs. I wanted higher resolution with duplex and so, given my experience with the previous Lexmark, it was natural to upgrade to the E260d.

Well, I've had the printer for several days now and can report that it's everything I was expecting - great print...

1.0 out of 5 stars Jammer
Worked great for a couple of months then started to jam. After clearing the jame it's good for a few sheets then jams again. Tried cleaning it, different paper, premium brands, recylcled, it doesn't make a difference. I'm pulling the receipt and sending it back to where it came from.

5.0 out of 5 stars A fine printer - that does print Envelopes on a Mac!, February 9, 2011

I had a Lexmark E232 for 6 or so years and it was a great, reliable printer for my modest home office needs. I wanted higher resolution with duplex and so, given my experience with the previous Lexmark, it was natural to upgrade to the E260d.

Well, I've had the printer for several days now and can report that it's everything I was expecting - great print quality, fast print times and no paper feed issues.

The only slight problem ... seemed to be the dreaded Mac envelope mess reported here. The first time I tried an envelope ... argh! ... exactly as other users have said, the print was off the side of the envelope. I have to admit, I read those reviews before buying and figured a company like Lexmark couldn't have failed to solve an issue reported as far back as 2009. Looking further around now that I had the issue, there seemed to be no solution posted on the internet. I was worried. BUT ... I contacted Lexmark support and, within a few minutes they had a solution. And the solution, seemingly for the first time on the internet is:

In the print dialogue, from the menu that initially reads 'Layout', select 'Paper Feed'. From the menu that appears, change 'Auto Select' to 'Manual Envelope'. And that's it.

Now, Lexmark has had 2 years to fix their paper 'Auto Select' which seems to fail to 'auto' select Envelope when the page size is set to Envelope ... but still - their support was excellent and the printer is a bargain for what you get. We'll see what the toner costs turn out to be - but I was pleasantly surprised by the toner use of my E232 and I'm hoping this will be the same.

Bottom line: If this fits your needs, you wont regret buying it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Can't Believe You Slaggers, February 11, 2011

Can't believe the score for this machine was dropped under 50% because one or more people (who knows if it's the same guy with an agenda) repeatedly - INCORRECTLY - stated you can't print envelopes on a MAC with this thing. There should be 'tard weighted scores' and 'people with a clue' scores. The tards could yammer all day that a toaster sucks because it doesn't blend their tea for them. The rest of us can actually share valid information.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb Technical Assistance, Printing Envelopes, July 2, 2010
This review is from: Lexmark E260D Mono Laser Printer (Office Product)
I bought the Lexmark E260d as what looked like the best overall value to replace an HP Laserjet 1200 that failed after years of service. Printing regular bond from the paper tray worked perfectly. I misunderstood the owner manual's instructions on "open manual feeder door" so could not print envelopes or labels. The email tech assistance wasn't very helpful with this problem. After several email evolutions, I called 1-800-Lexmark, expecting the usual delays and marginal responsiveness that we have learned to associate with free tech assistance. Not so with Lexmark! After hardly any recorded phone tree queries, I was speaking with a human in less than 2 minutes. He was attentive and correctly determined I'd loaded all the printer driver and other software correctly, so transferred me to the hardware dept. There another efficient, attentive techie took a minute to set up another E260d in front of him, so we would each see and do exactly the same thing. Big dummy me, had been opening the entire front panel instead of the actual "feeder door" which is the middle section on Amazon.com's photo of the printer. I wish the manual had been clearer on exactly what was the feeder door (like a photo of the opened door), but the outstanding tech support made up for it and then some. I am a Lexmark fan now and will buy other of their products.

After my 20 years of suffering through mediocre tech support from various companies, Lexmark really shines in their helpfullness and cooperation. No giving me the third degree, no wanting all kinds of detail to prove when and where I purchased the printer. No hassles whatsoever! Lexmark simply took a real interest in my problem, then solved it logically and directly.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fine Printer - But you don't want to sleep with it nearby., February 16, 2011
This review is from: Lexmark E260D Mono Laser Printer (Office Product)
I got this printer for my home office (where my desk is in the room next to my bedroom). I read lots of reviews to make sure I chose a good performing laser model and this one did a fine job in the one month I owned it. But it has one odd quirk that no one seemed to mention: it makes periodic clunking noises when idle.

About once every 2-3 hours the machine will forward its drum roller just a bit to prevent it from staying in contact with heated parts for too long. Perhaps not a big deal if you have the machine way down the hall, but the split-second clunking noise was loud enough to wake me up in the adjacent room several times each night. And I didn't enjoy sitting next to it all day either.

The only way to avoid this problem is to turn off the computer between uses - which really isn't very practical because the power switch is way down low on the backside and hard to reach if the printer is inside a cabinet or against the wall (like most usually are). Incredibly dumb switch design.

Took me several rounds with Lexmark online to uncover the source of the mystery clunking. Turns out this is a common feature on recent Lexmark lasers. They were reasonably helpful and offered to refund my money since the store's return period had expired, but the entire process took a lot of persistence on my part - more than some people would tolerate. I bought a Brother 5340D instead which cost less but has about the same print quality and features.

We had some trouble installing the printer and got it working once. It messed up many settings and we called customer service. It was fixed for a couple of days but went down again. I love the printer when it works; it hasn't worked consistantly.

1.0 out of 5 stars WON'T PRINT CUSTOM SIZES, EG. ENVELOPES, CHECKS, February 24, 2010

Truth Wins (United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Lexmark E260D Mono Laser Printer (Office Product)
THIS PRINTER CANNOT PRINT ENVeLOPES, CHECKS, MONEY-ORDERS OR OTHER CUSTOM SIZES.

I have tried the various drivers, and it just won't print custom size documents, like envelopes, or checks. The From address, typed in the top left corner falls on the top right, where the postage stamp would go, and the To address typed in the center falls off the page, and so it does not even show up. I just see the word To in the right margin, but the addressee's name and address are missing. These are old MS Word files that printed fine with all other printers before. I have spent days with tech support and online, without a solution. I have tried and tried and tried but it seems there is a bug or poorly designed driver.

2.0 out of 5 stars Won't Print Envelopes on a Mac, November 28, 2009
This review is from: Lexmark E260D Mono Laser Printer (Office Product)
I purchased this printer primarily for my personal business correspondence. I fed envelopes (#10) as indicated by the manual and the page setup icon, but they printed as a regular page (that is, the print orientation was vertical on the printed envelope) and only the return address appeared. I dreadfully contacted customer support. Response was relatively prompt, but it took two emails, when all needed information was in my first email. I was directed to conduct an online chat with customer support regarding a firmware update. I was never given a preview of where this was headed, but received the "simon says - do this" style help. It took a couple of hours to update the firmware, and I was asked to permit remote control of my computer, which I did reluctantly in the hope of a fix. Nothing changed after the update. (I had already installed the most recent drivers, downloaded from the website.) I did more searching for an answer, but I don't have more time to invest in this issue, and plan to drop the printer off for recycling. I do not have room for a printer that won't print envelopes, and will probably buy an HP. I have found the HP hardware unreliable, but the software works with OS X. The Lexmark prints a sheet of paper well, and if you have a Mac and that is all you need, this may be the printer for you. Disappointed in lack of follow-through by customer support.
