5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent All in One
This all in one is the best I've ever owned. Finally someone came out with a small footprint unit that seems to work flawlessly on my Windows XP systems. I like the fact that I can unhook it from my computer and it works stand-alone as a fax, copier and scanner.

I bought the X125 All in One after much research. I thought I did a complete job of checking all the facts but I must have let the low price seduced me and I regret that decision.

The X125 is a poor printer, fax and copier. It doesn't do anything well. We experienced problems during our initial set up and we're forced to call the help line. We placed dozens of calls but we couldn't reach anyone. There was no help available and no easily accessible number. This forced us to fill out a help request form at the Lexmark site. It took them five days to get back to us via email and the email that we waited for all week didn't even supply the answer. Basically they made us go through all the troubleshooting steps that were already in the poorly written manual.

After a week we finally got it working. It really wasn't worth the wait. It makes poor copies; printing is below average and don't expect anything from the fax machine. The fax switcher is not reliable and sometimes it won't even pick up the incoming calls. The settings control didn't work properly either. We keep turning down the fax volumn but it keeps going back up. This is part and pacel of what you are going to get with this cheap machine.

But the worse thing about the X125 is the drag is puts on your computer's performance. Since I installed it on my fairly new computer using XP, system performance has degraded. I will end of having to get more memory. I hated this printer so much I ended up giving it to my 12 year old son who is happily using it with his new E machine. Funny thing is, however, after one month, he wants to give it back. His computer has slowed down too. Can you imagine that, he would rather have no printer than that printer.

1.0 out of 5 stars ...Defective, April 9, 2003

This review is from: Lexmark X125 All-in-One Office Center with USB Cable (13H0186) (Office Product)
Setting this machine up wasn't too difficult, although I would agree with the other reviewers by saying that the instructions could use some more clarification. I set up the machine, plugged it in, and waited while it "powered up". After several hours, it was still powering up. So, I unplugged it, and tried to enter the date and time. It stalled. I repeated the process and decided to forget about the programming until later.

Instead, I decided to try and copy something. The machine stalled again. What I got was a copy of the first line of the page and a blob of green ink. Not a good sign.

The next day, I had my phoneline installed. Once again, I plugged in the machine. I thought that was the problem, that all the functions had to be on at the same time in order for one to work. That is the case with some all-in-ones. This time, I heard something sizzle inside. Then this horrible smell filled my office. I immediately unplugged it and returned the machine back to the store.

Another thing for prospective buyers: If you use Windows XP, you will need to go to the Lexmark site and download the driver. I didn't get the chance to see if this worked because my machine completely melted down, so I can't tell you whether or not there are any bugs in their software.

I bought this machine because a colleague had one and liked it. For the price, it seemed like the way to go. Once I took the machine out and set it up, I didn't like how far the catch tray stuck out. If you hit it just right, the tray could snap off, or you could knock the machine to the floor very easily. Then there were the other issues I mentioned above.

Lexmark may have better products, but this isn't it. There are other all-in-one machines with comparible prices and better quality. Shop around.

2.0 out of 5 stars You get what you pay for!, February 10, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Lexmark X125 All-in-One Office Center with USB Cable (13H0186) (Office Product)
I was happy to unwrap this multifunction and set it up with ease. Then I started to have problems figuring out how to only print one page (still haven't). So I now put one piece of paper in the machine so it will only print the first page since there is no setting or button to push to manually stop it. Then I put in my label paper and it ate it! I put in 5 sheets of label paper, selected the "coated paper" function and it pulled all 5 sheets through. I've discarded the box otherwise I would take it back to the store, so I guess I am stuck with it's quirks. A far cry from my old HP multifunction from 1997.
Addendum: I did take it back to the store after the software started to corrupt itself and had to perform "system restore" on my computer to repair function! I do not at all recommend this machine.

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice - but some problems with software, January 31, 2003
By
This review is from: Lexmark X125 All-in-One Office Center with USB Cable (13H0186) (Office Product)
I found the Lexmark X125 to be functional in all areas as a printer, scanner, fax, and copier. The start up with Windows XP on my Sony Viao was a bit rough, as when the USB was not plugged in, it caused the operating to not come up. It was in the black screen of DOS. It took two phone calls with the tech support to get the problem resolved. The first time the person on the phone was totally inept and kept referring me to take my computer back to the store and have them compeletely reload the hard drive. That it was a problem with the computer, not their software. After playing around with it, and 5 reboots later, still the black screen of DOS, I called back hoping to get a better technical support Person. Though they said they never heard of this problem before, she adviced me to try to play with the USB cable. That solved the problem. It wasnt in tight during the installation sequence, and so it couldn't complete the process.

Then the other problem I'm having with the software, is the scanner works fine, but the software is not compatible with some of the OCR reader programs. So far Text Bridge and ReadIris 8Pro, are not set up to support Lexmark, and I'm still trying to figure out the pushups. It's great for a simple scanner, copier, printer and fax - no problems there. But it doesn't hand the compatibility to work to do the high production work that I do, and I need it to work with the other programs.

1.0 out of 5 stars Why isn't 0 stars an option? This product is THAT BAD!, January 22, 2004

the driver software dies after 12 hours or so of inactivity and you need to reboot your computer to be able to print again. Lexmark support does not acknowledge the problem and so you cannot expect they will ever supply a fix.

1.0 out of 5 stars This machine is a pain, November 2, 2003

Don't waste your money with this machine. It constantly freezes up the computer when you try to scan or copy --Have to shut down and restart to get anything to work at all. Uses too much ink, and is so slow. I hate this machine. I've had it 3 months and am just biting the dust on it. I want to buy Lexmark products because I own their stock, but....this machine is just a waste of money.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good machine but not good with AOL v. 8.0, December 24, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Lexmark X125 All-in-One Office Center with USB Cable (13H0186) (Office Product)
The all-in-one features seem to work well, however, I had major problems using the printer online. There is a problem with how AOL v.8.0 communicates with printer. I called Lexmark and AOL. It seems that it's an AOL problem that AOL is working on.

I bought this all-in-one for on-the-road trips with my laptop.
I don't know how it all works yet, and, if I ever figure it all out, I'll write a supplemental review.

Here's the report so far: This is very frustrating. Directions say things like: "Open the cartridge access doors" & "Install the cartridges." They do not, gentle buyer, tell you HOW to do these things. The unit is constructed of inexpensive (dare I say "cheap"?) plastic and one is very wary that one may break something whilst trying to accomplish an unguided mission, as there is no indication of which parts are meant to move and which parts are not.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Product for the low price, May 29, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Lexmark X125 All-in-One Office Center with USB Cable (13H0186) (Office Product)
Everyone so far seems to have written negative reviews. I use this product simply to fax, copy, scan less than 50 documents a week. It does the job great.
The instructions aren't much good but if you have the common sense to work any fax machine in the first place you can have this out of the box and running in 10 minutes. The fax works great, it scans before calling to save a few bucks, the scanner is slow but is above average for something in this price range. I am a computer professional and once I sorted out a few things the x125 has worked flawlessly with my computer and all applications. For 200 Canadian dollars this things is an incredible value as long as you realize this is obviously for light duty applications.
Recommended!
