This review is from: Lexmark Optra C710 Color Laser Printer 16/3 PPM 32MB 1200DPI Par (Office Product)
I purchased 2 Lexmark Optra C710 printers for my office and it has been a nightmare! First, because I have 6 HP printers on my server the Lexmarks cause major server problems. I had to reboot my server 4 times during the initial installation. Which anyone in an office knows that that is a huge inconvience. Then, two days later the printers just stop working. You could ping them but nothing was coming out. So I had to reinstall and recreate new HUBs for both of them. I finally just put both of those printers on another server I have a database running on. What a mess. After I got the printers at least printing I had no idea how long it would take for my printer to print just a single document. Everytime you want to print it takes the printer at least 3 min to "warm up" in color it takes 5 min. Inside the printer is 4 seperate printer cardridges. As it is printing it has to change between all 4. It sounds like slamming file cabinets drawers as it changes cartridges. I had to move the printer to another wall in the office because it was driving my office manager crazy. I feel sorry for anyone that already has it.

This printer is from an era of color laser printing where four toners rotate inside the printer while making the image. All printers like this make a heck of a racket when they print. HP 4500/4550, HP 2500, HP 1500, Minolta 2200/2300, etc. They all clammer around as they print. So you can't blaim the noisey printer... it is what it is... that's the technology used in these things. So far though this printer has been a work horse. I picked it up from a friend for $200 with a full load of toner. I hate Lexmark printer, laser and otherwise... but this thing has been rock solid for. Mine has the HD option and 384MB of ram so maybe that's why it gives me no trouble. I think if you can pick one up for cheap then hook it up. Good luck finding reman toner for it though. I did eventually. Now it costs me a loaf of bread, a bottle of wine a few cheetos to print with it. It wieghs a ton and sounds like a train wreck but it works like a locamotive. In the past month I've put 4,000 pages through it with out error and I still have 60% of my toner to spare (not heavy coverage).

I have 2 of these printers for our offices. They are both workhorses and churn out 1000 pages at a time with ease. I buy the toner for a good deal ... so they are very inexpensive to use. They work fine on my server/network. They are a little noisy but that doesn't seem to bother anyone here.

If you can find this printer for a few hundred dollars less, it would be a great value. Otherwise, there are quieter printers in the $2,200 price range available from HP and Tektronix worthy of considerationOutput quality and paper handling is very good. Works well in both a Windows XP and Mac OS X environment. Its main negative is its a little noisy. Otherwise, its quality is as good with other similar color laser printers. |
