5.0 out of 5 stars Great to Have a Laser Again
I was looking for a giveaway deal to replace my inkjet which stopped feeding paper. It's possible to find steals on inkjets, in fact it can be cheaper to replace the whole printer itself than the ink cartridge (which is where the money is made). 2.0 out of 5 stars Save your money, don't get this printer.
Don't get this printer. Yes, the printer is inexpensive. But the toner cartridges are expensive and you'll pay for it in the long run. The Lexmark website says the toner cartridge is good for 2000 sheets at 5% page coverage (at $100/cartridge, that's 5 cents/sheet). Don't believe it.

My wife gets maybe five hundred pages printed (just double-spaced typing) before...

5.0 out of 5 stars Great to Have a Laser Again, May 27, 2002
This review is from: Lexmark Optra E210 Personal Laser Printer (Office Product)
I was looking for a giveaway deal to replace my inkjet which stopped feeding paper. It's possible to find steals on inkjets, in fact it can be cheaper to replace the whole printer itself than the ink cartridge (which is where the money is made). However when I saw a great deal on the Lexmark e210 and read countless positive online reviews about it, I couldn't pass it up.

Setup was simple- it was working in less than five minutes. This is in sharp contrast to my last laser printer (a Brother), which was nearly impossible to replace the ink cartridge and ended up with ink powder everywhere. This printer is solid and attractive and compact. The print is top quality and super fast. I was thrilled to have a laser again after suffering through the slow ink jet with far inferior print quality. No, I can't print color or pictures on the laser, but I have found it to be cheaper to send my picture files out for processing than the cost of the ink/paper to do it at home (they look way better that way too), so a laser is perfect for me.

I have been warned that the replacement ink for this model is more than double that of most laser printers, so that could be a downside for someone who prints frequently. The initial cartridge is rated at 1000 sheets and the replacements are rated at 2000 sheets. I'm not concerned since I bought it for home use, but this could be a factor for others.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cheapest Laser I've ever seen, March 19, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Lexmark Optra E210 Personal Laser Printer (Office Product)
This is a decent laser printer that handles text well and has only jammed once despite going through several thousand pages and numerous sheets of labels.

Pros
-Price -- I got mine for $75 from office depot after a coupon and rebate
-text quality

Cons
-Graphics quality: not the greatest, don't buy it if you have to print anything with graphics
-Ink cost: pretty high cost per page

If you can get this for under 100, go for it, otherwise, get another printer with less expensive ink

Also, if you do indeed buy this printer, install the driver for the Samsung 1200 series printers instead of the e210 -- since the printers are really the same but with different emblems on the outside, you can use the better Samsung driver which has an ink saver mode which definitely works driving down the cost per page by ~20-30% while keeping the text dark enough to read

5.0 out of 5 stars Great network printer, March 22, 2002

This review is from: Lexmark Optra E210 Personal Laser Printer (Office Product)
Purchased the E210 as a replacement for my old HP LJ 5L, which is still a good desktop printer, but not much use as a network printer.

I installed the E210 on the print server port of my Barricade router, and had it up and printing in about 10 minutes. Output is crisp and clear. The engine requires a few seconds to warm up, but once it starts printing, it's noticeably faster than the 5L.

I would dock the printer a half-star for having such an expensive replacement toner cartridge, but that's really the only negative I can offer... The printer has an auto-feed slot with a capacity of 150 sheets of standard DP paper, although the output slot only has a capacity of 100 sheets. It also has a manual feed slot. Both imput slots are limited to a 9-inch maximum width, which is sufficient for my needs.

Lexmark claims that the duty rating for this printer is 5000 sheets per month, and lists it on their website as a Business-class printer, rather than a SOHO-class, which I question, but for me the bottom line is that the output is good, the price is great, and the unit has an acceptable footprint and is very quiet. If you're looking for a good light-to-medium-duty laser, at a budget-minded price, you're going to have to look pretty hard to beat the Lexmark E210.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Little Printer!, March 11, 2002

This review is from: Lexmark Optra E210 Personal Laser Printer (Office Product)
I bought this printer and so far, I have not had a single problem. I was so sick and tired of my ink jet printer cartridge getting clogged up after not using it for a couple of days that I had to make a switch to laser.

It takes about 10 seconds to warm up, but after that it prints very quick. It prints black text perfect, with all fonts nice and dark. It even has the option of placing a watermark on the paper. Labels and envelopes print good too, with no jamming. Not too shabby for a laser printer that cost me ... (after rebate). I would not recommend this for anyone that wants to print graphics.

I couldn't imagine using an ink jet printer again; and with a price and performance like this Lexmark, I will never have to again!

5.0 out of 5 stars excellent, affordable, December 6, 2001

This is a great laser printer - it's very affordable and performs like any other top-of-the-line printer. Toner lasts a long time, and it's very easy to set up.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Printer, July 29, 2003

This review is from: Lexmark Optra E210 Personal Laser Printer (Office Product)
This was my first laser printer and I love it. The set-up was easy and fast, the print quality is good, and the speed is excellent. I was concerned about only printing in B&W, so I left my ink-jet connected as well. I was surprised with how few documents I printed that needed color. I hardly ever use my ink-jet now, as I can't stand to wait on it. The cartridges are on the expensive side, but it was over a year with moderate printing until I had to replace it. A tip: when the print quality starts getting light, take out the cartridge, turn it back and forth a few times and re-insert. You may have to do this a few times, but you can get a month or more of good pages out of it before replacing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great printer--have had no problems in 6+ years!!, February 3, 2007
This review is from: Lexmark Optra E210 Personal Laser Printer (Office Product)
I've had my E210 for at least 6 years now and have not had one problem with it. I print mostly text, though some graphics at times, and it has performed remarkably well. I have had no paper jams, ever, and I am just now replacing the toner cartridge for the 2nd time.

Unlike another review here, I've gotten way more than 500 pages with this cartridge. I don't know what their issue was, but I've been using this toner cartridge for over 4 years now (at least 1,500 pages) and it is starting to fade. But I also found cheaper cartridges online for around $62.

For the price (if you can find one anymore), this little printer is fast, cheap to own and very reliable.

5.0 out of 5 stars No paper jams, great printer, March 25, 2005
This review is from: Lexmark Optra E210 Personal Laser Printer (Office Product)
I owned this printer for over 2 years now and I had NO paper jams for at least a year. Very reliable, nice print quality, sharp text and images. When the printer power's supply went bed in the first year Lexmark sent me promptly a replacement printer which I still have it now. Great customer service.

On the toner/ink side. Original toner is quite expensive (around $70/cartridge), better go online and buy it on ebay. I found 2 cartridge refills for about $6, refilled the cartridge at home and worked great with the same quality printing. I love this printer.

5.0 out of 5 stars awsome !, April 12, 2002
This review is from: Lexmark Optra E210 Personal Laser Printer (Office Product)
this is a great printer. Its printing quality is really good (specially if u consider its price). And i just like laser's sooo much more than those inkjets. Although its B&W, the quality of printouts is really worth it !
Shop around though, I got this printer from Staples for 150$.

2.0 out of 5 stars Save your money, don't get this printer., February 10, 2004

Don't get this printer. Yes, the printer is inexpensive. But the toner cartridges are expensive and you'll pay for it in the long run. The Lexmark website says the toner cartridge is good for 2000 sheets at 5% page coverage (at $100/cartridge, that's 5 cents/sheet). Don't believe it.

My wife gets maybe five hundred pages printed (just double-spaced typing) before parts of the page starts fading (so we're paying 20 cents/sheet). As per the Lexmark website, we've updated the driver, we've updated the firmware, we've printed cleaning pages, nothing works. Sure, we shake the toner cartridge too, but who wants to be doing that every 5 pages, especially when they advertise 2000 pages and ours starts fading at 500.

I have an old HP 4L. It's probably getting close to 10 years old now. I think I've bought just one cartridge since the original, and I've printed a lot. My wife also had an HP that the Lexmark replaced. She wishes she had her old HP back. Now there is an endorsement. I will not get a Lexmark printer ever again.
