5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Price for all it can do!
My mom came home with this thing, and I was skeptical because it was really inexpensive. I'm a computer tech so naturally I felt that my mom had been taken advantage of. Turns out I was completely wrong!

To start with, this model comes with very easy instructions for setup. It connects via USB port, and the CD autoruns. Setup is a breeze...

1.0 out of 5 stars Uses ink like I've never seen before
I've been using the Lexmark X1150 for over a year now. While I find the multifunctionality of the unit easy to use, the printer uses up ink ridiculously fast. The cost of Lexmark cartridges makes this unit VERY expensive to run. I would not recommend buying this unless you have a free supply of ink.

Setup is a breeze.

Second, the design of this model is very nifty. The flatbed scanner sits on top of the printer, and is protected from normal printer operations. The glass stays very well protected until you need it. When you're done scanning there is a safety feature built in so that the top closes slowly and doesn't damage the glass.

It's not like a fax machine that drags and curls your document while trying to duplicate it. It's a regular flat bed scanner.

third, I was VERY impressed with the copy function. You can completely bypass the computer. With other machines you'd have to scan the document, save and then print it. With this machine, you literally put down your paper and push one copy button. Ta-Da! The guides on the scanner make it foolproof as to which way the paper goes too!

fourth, the software that comes with the unit has a wide variety of printing capabilities. You can increase the size of a scan to fit on several pages, or combine a large photo into a smaller one. There is also a built in photo editing program.

All together, it's a very tight package. I was up and running within 5 minutes of opening the box. Installation was smooth.

As far as the other complaint about the ink, I have not gone through that. I haven't printed with it more than once or twice a day, but I have been printing photos in high quality and they have been really crisp.

Someone made a comment about the printer cartridges being too expensive. I've found that if you order a "refill kit" on the internet, instead of it costing $40 to refill your ink, it'll cost maybe $10 tops! This is a very budget-minded package (if you know where to look for your savings!)

Definitely a good buy! If you like my review please vote for it, or IM me at WinterGetsMe on AIM with more questions. Thanks!

4.0 out of 5 stars Almost all that was promised AND it sends FAXES!, March 13, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Lexmark PrintTrio X1150 Printer, Scanner, Copier (Office Product)
I have had the Lexmark X1150 for just over one month. I really like it a lot. It makes wonderful copies, prints beautifully, with very good color matches to original material. It is a little slower than promised, but that may be my Computers fault. It prints, copies, and scans and as I said above, it also Faxes. That surprised me, and I feel as though I got a real bargain because of that. The ink cartridge is too small and in this one month I have already used two black ink cartridges and one color. That is a problem. That is why I do not give it five stars, only four. Ink cartridges cost too much.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great MFC for Cheap, July 26, 2004
This review is from: Lexmark PrintTrio X1150 Printer, Scanner, Copier (Office Product)
I would have never picked this machine had it not been for my boss buying it at work. I was aggravated that she didn't buy a more expensive machine but it actually works very well. After using it with my Dell (running XP) at work for a few weeks, I fell in love with it. It's good quality, trouble free, and the price seals the deal. I now have one at home that I am using with a Toshiba laptop running XPP. These are going out of production so I suggest you get one before they're all gone. Great for home use, but if you scan a lot I would suggest a model with a feeder. The sheet feeder on this is only for blank paper.

2.0 out of 5 stars Lexmark Cartridges Are Difficult and Expensive, December 17, 2004
This review is from: Lexmark PrintTrio X1150 Printer, Scanner, Copier (Office Product)
Wonder why you're getting a printer so cheap? You're probalby only getting reject half filled cartridges included, and look at the cost of new cartridges and consider how frequently you may need to buy them unless you hardly ever do any printing.

I bought the x5150 about 8 months ago and thought it was pretty good. Soon the cartridges emptied after not much printing and I learned the hard lesson. I knew the cartridges weren't cheap but I thought I'd refill them. That didn't work. I went to local refill company and was told the sponges in Lexmark cartridges are difficult (they gave up trying)and they only sold other companies' remanufactured or OEM. I tried one remanufactured Black and it was horizonaly streaky no matter what I did to fix it.

People are fed up with printer manufacturers having cartridges with sponges that don't refill well (Lexmark), or smart chips that prevent refills (Epson), not to mention HP's methods including "Expired Cartridge" messages, etc. If we don't, as consumers, vote "no" by not buying these printers and sending letters to CEO's we'll just get more of the same scamming.

I was excited to read about Canon Pixma IP3000 & up models with separate ink-tanks & no smart chips. Examining all the Pixma models at a local store I noticed this extra pull down tray in the front-middle. After full investigation, it's a disabled/never will work CD/DVD printing bay. Yet the same models in Europe have a working CD/DVD print bay. The USA price does not reflect the non-functional CD/DVD printing either. So I will (doubtedly) try to get a Euro model or wait for Canon to release USA models that are fully functional. I may end up temporarly buying the Epson R200 but I feel like I should be ashamed supporting Epson and their smart-chip scam. There is a chip resetter device (avg. $10 to $15) but I don't know if it works well yet. Forget Lexmark unless you have money to burn on cartridges. And there's concern about Epson printers wasting/spraying ink all over the inside (read all R200 reviews) that soon causes problems (dries solid/hard). The Canon has ink tanks with no smart chips, look easily refillable, and their print head underneath the ink tanks holder is also removable (i.e. replacable, but I don't know what that will cost. If other printers' print heads go you pretty much resort to trashing the printer). It looks like the Pixma line is leading the way in printing and cartridge technology. Canon: Kudos for heading a little more environmetally responsible with the Pixmas obviously designed for long-term usage in mind but PLEASE get those CD/DVD printing trays functional soon!

3.0 out of 5 stars Scanner, Copier, and Printer for under $100, January 19, 2006

At the time this was originally purchased it seemed like a lifesaver.

An All-in-One at a great price level.

The problem is....

If you don't print a lot, say 1-ream a year, the printer
seems to take notice..... I may be be overly paranoid.

I picked this up at WalMart 2 years ago.

I was very happy with it UNTIL....... I had to replace the Black Cart even though it read full ( according to the software ) after less than 200 pages.

I did so and guess what?

It started acting up aka " streaking " the print-outs after only about 3 months.

The scanner is excellent...... the printer attached sucks.

The title line says it all.I ordered this printer, recieved it and opened the box.Upon taking inventory of what Amazon said was supposed to be in the box,I found out the black cartridge (#16 or 10N0016) was not included.Don't get me wrong, the printer works and looks fine, but no one told me that one of the cartridges are optional on this model.(oh I later found out that red "chicken scratch" in the picture says that the black cartridge is optional.) I would give this printer 5 stars, but that nonsense is the reason I'm only giving this model 3 stars.

1.0 out of 5 stars BE WARNED!!!!!!, October 20, 2004

This may look like a great deal.....we got this printer last year for Christmas and it has worked wonderfully until the past week. Apparently there are some issues with Microsofts Service Pack 2 and the printer drivers on this printer. The scanner works fine and copier mode works fine until it has to print something then it goes haywire. My husband who is a computer science major and built our computer himself spent this past weekend pulling his hair out because he could not get the printer to work. He did everything under the sun to try and get around the problem and get it to work again with no luck. Finally he gave up and emailed Lexmark tech support and their response was to acknowledge that they knew their printers were having issues with SP2 and recommended he contact his PC manfacturer. That was it....lot of help that was. Be warned!! Also if you look closely at prices of the printer and the printer cartridges you will find that if you spend a little more money now on the printer then you will save in the long run on cartridges.

1.0 out of 5 stars This printer is NOT worth it!, March 20, 2005
This review is from: Lexmark PrintTrio X1150 Printer, Scanner, Copier (Office Product)
I don't know which Lexmark execs wrote these 5-star reviews, but this printer is horrendous! It SUCKS ink from its cartridges ridiculously fast and its print quality is below average. It is nice to have the copy/scan/print functions all-in-one, but not when the quality of the output and the machine are this low. Do not buy this.
