Ink will eat you alive!,
This review is from: Lexmark X125 All-in-One Office Center (13H0180) (Office Product)
Canon is the best deal. The print head and ink are different pieces. Plus they offer models with 2, 4, or 6 ink tanks and their branded ink is very reasonable. Personally, I use aftermarket ink in the Canon with great results. HP is okay too, but their newer models have gone to the combined printhead making even the aftermarket ink solutions more expensive. Why does it matter if a company combines the Ink with the Print head? $$$ Lexmark is really trying to eliminate any chance of consumers using aftermarket cartridges. Here is my opinion, for what it is worth ..... Lexmark produces compatible cartridges for HP laser printers, but they don't want anyone to remanufacture cartridges for their laser printers...Now what's your thought on that? As for Lexmark inkjet printers they put their printhead on the cartridge and a patent on their printhead, this is to eliminate the compatible ink market. You the consumer can buy less expensive refilled compatible cartridges or you can buy the Lexmark brand for the Lower Price for a 2-Pack - - What a bargain! That's why they can't give their printers away anymore. Buy a Canon. It is by far the most bang for the buck in the long run, due to ink costs.

An okay product.,

This unit is fairly acceptable, and since I did not pay much for it, i'm not too worried about what it can and can't do.Anyways, primarily purchasing this unit in order to fax documents, I find that it faxes acceptably, but in order to receive faxes (if you don't have separate phone lines), I've found that it is not very reliable. Also, as one reviewer stated, the Lexmark Settings Utility program does not exit quietly when shutting down Windows XP. The "Scan" feature is OK. However, if you are looking for a scanner, I do NOT suggest the paper-feed scanners, I suggest the scanners that have the open-up top. We used to have one of those, but it broke and we had to buy a new one. This scanner has ripped a hole in two of my pictures when I scanned it. Also, it can only scan certain dimensions. For example, to scan a regular devoloped picture I had to attach the picture to a piece of paper and then insert it into the scanner. Thus, if you have small documents you'd like to scan, I suggest you just get a regular flip-top scanner. Also, sometimes when scanning a picture, I have found that the scanner does not provide an accurate color scan. Some of my pictures have been messed up badly when scanned onto the computer, and when editing them with Jasc Paint Shop they did not seem to come out any better. Even more reason to get a flip-top scanner which seems to give a better scan. The "copy" feature is fairly well, as stated above you cannot copy documents under a certain dimension. When printing, the printer has never jammed but some of the documents have been tilted due to the sloppy input mechanism thing. ALSO, the ink is VERY expensive. I buy re-furbished ink and find I am still paying too much. The ink is also not that easy to replace for the first time (you have to pull out on the cartridges and when I first did it, I felt I was going to break the ink mechanism). That's about it, I really do not recommend this printer for full use. I primarily use my HP Laserjet Printer for documents, and only use this color printer for items such as greeting cards. I hope you found this review to be informative and helpful.

Avoid,

I agree with what others say about this unit: avoid it. In fact, I bought a Canon replacement and will install it when the ink cartridges on the Lexmark go empty. Why? The printer does occasionally jam (paper feeding is sloppy, jerky), the driver/software does crash once in awhile and does not gracefully exit Windows XP when I shut down my computer, the ink cartridges are extraordinarily expensive, and the print quality is--at best--mediocre.I didn't pay much for this thing, so I'm willing to eat my losses instead of buying more cartridges.

Good printer when it cooperates,

The printer works well when it doesn't lock up our computer and refuse to print. We have Windows XP, and the printer and XP don't seem to like each other - often, we have to restart the computer when trying to print. We have had no issues with sending faxes but haven't tried to receive them. Copy printing works fine, too.

mostly fine but doesn't fax,

It prints acceptably fast and the quality is good. Unlike some other reviewers, I didn't have any software glitches (running Windows XP). It can make copies, I use that quite a bit: but the default is to copy in color - output for documents is much better and the speed is faster if you set it to black & white. Paper feeding is reliable and the envelope printing works well - my HP managed to print envelopes only about 50% of the time without jamming. The ink is expensive, quite a rip-off. I never got my unit to fax, I'm not sure what the problem is. Not critical for me, but the fax capability was one reason I bought it.

I have used this product for a week or two now. Once a day or so, the driver software crashes, turning the Lexmark "red diamond" into a "red X" and the only solution at this point is to reboot - the device no longer will print jobs from the printer at this point. I reported the problem to support and they claim it is not a "known issue" - even though I find web pages on the internet which mentions other people having the same problem. "Hide your head in the sand" support policy, I guess. I will be returning this item, I think.

Good printer, bad fax,

I have this printer for over 1 year now.The printer, other than a paper jam once a while, it works fine. The big problem is the paper feed of the fax. If you put more than 1 page, most of the times it will pull 2-3 pages together. I called technical support and was advised to feed it one page at a time, wait till it pulls the page in and then feed in the next page. The guy said it was not designed to fax more than one page at a time. It also require you to feed all the pages before it dials the number, just to find out after feeding it 10 pages one at a time that the number you called is busy. Bottom line - if you need to fax more than one page at a time, do not buy this printer.

Not worth the money,
By A Customer
This review is from: Lexmark X125 All-in-One Office Center (13H0180) (Office Product)
Printer soaked up ink like a sponge!! Ink cartridge became blocked even when stored with the original tape over the printhead. Lexmark technical support suggested using a damp lint free cloth to clear the printhead. This did not work most of the time. I was not too happy having to sponge bath the ink cartridge everytime I needed to print. After much complaining Lexmark sent out a replacement cartridge which eventually clogged after printing about 20 sheets of paper. Recommend buying some other brand of printer. Lexmark ink cartridges are expensive. The cost of these and the frequent problems makes this printer not worth buying. I went back to using HP printers. I have an 8 year old HP Laserjet 4ML that works like brand new after print over 4000 pages. I have an HP Photosmart 7550 for photo and color printing. I am very happy with both printers.

This multi-task printer promises to deliver with the best quality. Well, that wasn't the case. My advice is to shop around. To sum it up, this printer is a piece of garbage.
